I don’t know if all B&N’s are doing it the same way. I just called mine to ask how they were managing the thing, and they told me that they were handing out bracelets to call people in batches of 50, and that I could pick up my bracelet any time today (it’s one of those paper things they have at fairs and museums to show you paid). My advice is to call the store you want to buy it at and ask what they’re doing.
I was also told that ALL reserved copies would be sold before unreserved copies would begin to sell, so that could be a long wait for people.
I’m totally stalking my package with UPS’s online tracker, and right now it says “In transit to final destination”!!!
Could it be that there will be a wonderful surprise waiting for me when I get home from work? Squee!
(It also says the package weighs FIVE pounds! Surely it can’t be that long, can it?)
I just tracked mine on UPS and it’s in Warwick! That’s good news. BTW, the Lucius Malfoy actor will be at the Borders in Cranston tonight. My son and I might go since my husband has a gig tonight. He might think it’s dumb to take a six year old out at that hour, but he’s never read any HP.
I called UPS back hoping to get the number for the local depot.
This guy, who was sweet as pie, rattled off the delivery information, including the address. I stopped him and said, “Help! That’s the problem!” and he said, “No no. Not a problem. We’ve contracted with the Post Office and will be delivering through them. I take it this is a Harry Potter book?”
The upshot being: The book is supposed to be in my PO Box by 6:00 p.m. tomorrow.
And since the PO closes at 11:30, I’m assuming that it’ll be in my POB by 11:30 tomorrow.
Very unlikely, I’m afraid. Final Destination refers to the UPS delivery depot where your book will go onto a truck tomorrow. OUT FOR DELIVERY means it’s on the way to your shipping address.
I’m glad to hear your story has a happy ending, goddess.
As for the book being delivered today, anywhere, that would cause a major uproar with the publisher, and heads would roll, so don’t get too excited… they wouldn’t deliver any today even if they could.
Tomorrow will be a good day to keep your cats indoors, what with all those UPS trucks about.
Is anyone else planning to greet their UPS guy with some sort of reward? My best friend and I are going to spend the day with a Box of Joe and our books, and I was thinking I’d make sure my friendly neighborhood UPS guy (who always leaves my packages rather than a note) had all the coffee and munchkins he wanted.
You know, UPS delivery has to be a fun job tomorrow. Everybody will be so HAPPY to see you! They’ll laugh, they’ll cry, they’ll have cookies…
I’m going to Davis-Kidd (one of the very few large indie booksellers still living; they also own Jo-Beth in Lexington, KY) and I wonder what their policy is on when they sell the audiobook. I’m getting the deluxe edition from Amazon, so there’s no point in buying the printed book, but I do want to get the audiobook tonight. Has anyone heard what B&N or Borders’ policy is on this? It might provide a clue.
Oh, and also, because you can’t edit your posts here:
Mugglenet has annoyed me sometimes, so maybe it’s just karma that they got all those spoilers. I’m sorry to say it, but there are times when they could have been a LITTLE more responsible. Specifically, I’m thinking of the time they incorrectly posted that the paragraph of description JKR released a long time ago actually described the HBP. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG (although I guess it could; it’s just that JKR never said who it described,) but because they posted that, you still see that fanon rumor.
FA has done great, I must say. Not more than one or two people have posted anything spoilerish at all. Of course, being a mod, I saw one of the few posts. I wasn’t happy. There was some weeping and gnashing of teeth. Still, for a spoiler, it wasn’t too bad.
I have to think it’s like ginger beer (as they call it in England) or root beer, at least in its name – but I think it tastes more butterscotchy and is delicious warm or cold.
By all means, please post those recipes here. Be sure to use proper attribution, and if you have to transcribe them manually, you will not only increase all of our gratitude, you will be killing some of the wait time yet remaining.
15 mins until it’s released here. But I ordered it from Amazon so I won’t get it until the morning. My post man seems to change the time of his deliveries so I always miss him. Not this time! I’ll shall be up early and sat by the door!
I just had a horrible vision!! What if someone in line at Davis-Kidd starts loudly discussing spoilers?? I asked a friend what I should do, and their advice was “Punch them in the face.” That doesn’t seem very useful.
Neat; I wasn’t all that excited about it until reading this thread. I just checked the internets and apparently my book is in South San Francisco to be delivered sometime tomorrow.
Now I kind of want to head to one of the bookstores tonight and see all the hoopla. Seems like it’d be fun, if you didn’t actually have to stand in line but could just watch.
Stopped by my Borders today and found out they were already handing out the numbers to pick up the reserve books - I’m number 16! (last time I was 280- something).
I must resist the temptation to pick up the book, sit down in the middle of the store, and read the last chapter aloud.
