For the thrid time this week, I’ve had my nap interrupted by a crack of thunder, followed by a flas flood warning. Apparently Thor is now a messenger for the National Weather Service.
But RoxStar still has the high ground
[Star Trek Space Hippie]HERBERT! HERBERT! HERBERT![/Star Trek space Hipppie]
Wow, that’s exactly how I looked at it! Did 800 calories at the gym for a total of 1,260 burned, but I count it as 1,000 because I think both the app and machines overestimate a little. s I was sweating away, a gym employee came up and asked me if I owned a Honda Civic. She went up to each person to ask them. I don’t know what the issue was, but I thought it was kind of her. I guess a lot of people are like me and wear headphones/earbuds, so don’t hear announcements.
Oh, and my favorite show to watch while slogging away is The Great British Baking Show (Great British Bake-Off to you Brits). I’m almost out of episodes, though. I wish I could watch the early (BBC) ones, but they don’t seem to be available this side of the pond.
shoe, yay on the departure of the progenitors! I bet if Pretzel had hands, he’s clap.
flyboy, glad you could go kayaking despite the knee that says nein. It was sweet of you to keep going back for Mrs. LA. Speaking of whom, is her tummy any better?
swampy, do you peel the peaches first? Blanching and peeling was always the biggest hassle when I made peach pie and such.
She still eats yoghurt during the week We had Thai take-out last night. I made yellow potato home fries, over-easy eggs, and bacon for breakfast, and the nikumaki for dinner.
That sucks. You can’t TELL them what to do but it will be your fault if it’s not done. I do not miss government work very much.
I didn’t get to pick Martha, Mom told me what it would be. I also don’t remember getting cake. I would have been much happier about being a Martha if I had gotten cake.
I’m glad you are able to walk, walking is pretty nice. Floating also sounds like fun, so I’m glad you had a good time.
My absolutely favorite part was eating the peels. I also liked peeling almonds because I could eat the peels.
I’m now inspired to make some walnut date bars tomorrow because my mind is so strange that they are associated with eating peach peels.
We still don’t have a proper bed. It still sucks. VBC sleeps until the people get up, but GG is awake at the crack of dawn and thinks that as long as we aren’t in our bed, we are fair game. Thankfully we were able to remember to never ever let him use our hands as play toys despite him being a really cute kitten so his belly isn’t a trap. Our hands are not toys, but they are good for scratching, so if we won’t play, we must scratch.
GG has very soft fur, stroking him is a pleasure to my hands. But not at 0530.
We bottled more beer this morning. Hubs is trying to use up all of his concentrates so he has room for the new stuff, but that really isn’t going to work because the tubs of bottled beer actually take up more room than his kits do. I’m really happy he puts the bottles in plastic tubs because if they turn into bottle bombs our housekeeper won’t fire us.
Our deliveries seem to be randomly timed - pretty much any time between noon and sunset, it seems. I assume it’s because sometimes people call out sick and they have to distribute their routes. Not that it’s a huge deal for us - most of our mail goes right into the recycle bin anyway.
It’s looking like we’ll have a good day for boating - it might hit 80° and virtually no rain in the forecast. Daughter and her friend are supposed to meet us around 10 or so and we’ll go out for maybe 3 hours. I need to make some sammiches for us and I bought a bag of bags of chips at Aldi - they have an assortment of 5 varieties, 18 little bags, for $4. Seemed like a good deal.
Kinda weird - I still feel nervous about taking this boat out. I never had misgivings about any of our sailboats, but for some reason, this trawler induces anxiety. It’s especially weird since I know the systems on this much better than I ever knew our sailboats, even tho the sailboats didn’t have near the setup we have now. And we do have tow insurance, should we need it. So no clue where the worries originate.
And tomorrow, we’ll be back to working on it again. There’s one phantom wire that needs to be removed, at least one circuit that needs to be connected to a breaker, and the temperature monitors for the engine room need to be installed. And the water system, and the bilge pump check valve and … well, yeah, still lots to be done.
But today is for enjoying the bay for the first time in years. I’m glad the grands will be with SIL’s mom - Roxy has only been out with us once, so she’s not at all boat-smart and I can’t relax when fretting about her. And yes, she wears her lifejacket the whole time. Anyway, here’s hoping I get some good pics while we’re out.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 90 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for later this mornin’ and throughout the rest of the day. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization followed by returnin’ to da cave for a N.O.L. of burgers (grilled extra yestiddy) and chips. The usual sloth, nappage, and general overall uselessness to follow.
Nellie Happy Doperversary! I saw the slice of cake by your name. I used (spoilered for the faint of heart) canned peaches to make the cobbler. I spoilered it, so if anybody is clutchin’ pearls and/or wringin’ your hands, well, it’s your fault.
MOOOOOOM have fun on the boat and do try to overcome the urge to pirate other boats while out and about.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. There was a big rain storm last night, but I still got “Princess Pretty Paws” to do his thing. And it’s cloudy and 69 right now(nice).
@nelliebly, happy, happy doperversary, even though we’re the ones who most benefit.
@FairyChatMom, enjoy your day afloat, may it be utterly uneventful and you have many opportunities to sit on high and gloat.
@swampbear, no pearl clutching here at canned or frozen peaches for peach cobbler or pie. Both are vastly better than no pie or cobbler and in my neck of the woods good fresh peaches locally are few and far between and when you can get them, are too expensive to do anything with except eat out of hand. If I’m lucky and move quickly without hesitation, I can get good Colorado peaches for about 4 days a year. Sad but true. I just use canned in juice with no added sugar.
Off to add my pair of Grandma hands to help my daughter solo parent while her profligate husband is out of town on business. It’s a trip planned before they found out that 2 kids are much more to manage than twice one kid-you have to out number them. Emily booked help from me and grandpa, my ex, as soon as they got back from their month in Europe-the same day they got back. They aren’t slow learners and she has said no more business trips for awhile. I’ll go over tomorrow night for 2 hours at bedtime too. Both kiddos are in daycare or preschool full days but supper + bedtime can get a bit much.
As we drove to the marina, we passed a local farm that claims it now has peaches. Woohoo!!
At the boat now, doing a few last minute things before our passengers arrive. Overcast, but sun promised later. We should get underway in about an hour
Read all, retained little. Parents at least helped me get my pigsty of a house wrangled into something resembling an actual (clean!) home. Worth all the being-fussed-at, I guess.
Need to fire up the ol’ laptop and update my resume - the recent (and sadly ill fated) manager promotion isn’t listed yet. Might as well show it off.
All y’all take care. Enjoy your peaches, naps, grandkids, dogs, etc.
So last night I dreamed I was flirting with this cute redhead at a hockey game, then we’re flying to Alaska on a Bolivian airliner. Then a giant Kodiak bear was chasing our car through town, and the car turned into a pumpkin2 boat glued together, and we climbed a tree. Then long time Mumper wiki appeared, beat up the bear, and ran it off. I don’t know if this means I should avoid martinis and Guinness on the same night, or do it more often.
You got a promotion, and you ejected before they could pin their shenanigans on you. Definitely worthy of hiring. And glad the 'rents were useful for once.
Finally got a call-back from my insurance company claims people about my dinged front bumper from a month ago. They’ve agreed that the other person is at fault. Now I need to go get an estimate this coming week. I know they will have to replace the entire front bumper assembly, as all cars are modular now. Also the wheel well trim piece. Finding the part will be the big issue, so I’m not expecting repairs to be done much before Christmas, but would love to be surprised on that. Insurance will cover a rental car, of course. The repair place is a solid month or two out on executing repairs once the part arrives.
I really can’t understand how that person could sideswipe my car and keep right on moving until she put a sizable ding in it. She couldn’t have been going more than 2-3 mph as she pulled into her parking place and had to have realized something was wrong.
It’s currently 56 and sunny with an expected high of 76 and partly cloudy skies. Tomorrow we warm up to the mid-eighties.
I got the lawn mowed yesterday and chopped a lot of pruned branches down to size. I added some soil to my raised bed garden and took care of other assorted chores in the backyard. Also got the tube feeders for the birds cleaned and refilled, along with refilling the bark butter feeder. The suet was good to go, so I left that one alone.
I could have done so much more, but my earbuds weren’t working correctly, and although I would rather listen to the birdsong in my yard, all that could be heard was one neighbor’s very large and boisterous party. The neighbor on the other side, whose firepit is located in the part of her yard that is closest to my great room and bedroom windows decided last night was the perfect night to host a huge party at her firepit, so there was loud boisterous music and cigarette and wood smoke drifting into my house, forcing me to seal up my house. So much for cool, refreshing air. It didn’t drown out the noise though.
Metal Mouse, yeah, like you when I worked for DoD, packing boxes for a move wasn’t a big deal. The real issue at hand is they feel they only need to pack their personal stuff, not the 20+ years of staplers, desktop paper trays, bulletin boards, pamphlets, binders and other assorted crap. There must be at least 200 binders in there. They are making everything way harder than it ought to be. Movers don’t pack your little items in boxes, and if they did, it would cost a lot more money.
Well, here’s hoping today is a much more quiet day. I’ve got laundry to take care of and perhaps a couple of errands.
Morning, all! It’s a little less humid today, but still overcast and “meh.” It probably wouldn’t be a bad morning for the inaugural use of my hedge trimmer, but I don’t wanna.
Sadly, it seems as though it’s still too soon for pizza – even low carb/sugar pizza – to be back in any kind of regular rotation. I definitely didn’t feel as bad yesterday after having only 1/2 serving, but I still wound up feeling less great than I should have. I’ll eat the last leftover 1/2 serving for lunch today, both as a “final test” and so as not to waste it, but I have a feeling the pepperoni pizza will be staying in the freezer for a while. Luckily, keeping things for a while is kind of what freezers do.
Last weekend I watched the first few episodes of For All Mankind (AppleTV+), and I spent most of yesterday finishing the first season. I even stayed up late – for me – to watch the season finale. What a great show! I didn’t expect an alternate history of the space race to be so compelling, but it’s really good television. I’ll start S2 at lunchtime, and if it’s as good as S1 that will be my plan for the rest of the day (and parts of this week/next weeked, since there are 10 episodes of at least one hour each). S3 started a month ago, with the finale set to release on 8/12, so I might be able to catch up with it – or, I may hold off on starting S3 until the whole thing is available. Very important/exciting decisions ahead in the Misnomer household!!
Definitely add that!
I’ve been with my current company for 4 years and in my current position for 2.5 years, but I still look at my resume from time to time. Mostly I can’t seem to stop futzing with the format; every now and then I also update my current job description. I see a lot of resumes at work, plus I’m a writer/editor so tweaking my own stuff is a compulsion.
I hate resume-writing!
Most are never read by human eyes these days anyway. I just try to keep mine as simple as possible, while fitting in as many of the buzzwords as possible that the bots are scanning for.
Now that I’m actually looking for a new position, we shall see if this gets me any interviews.
Morning all. Slept in until after 9am today, so guess I had a little catching up to do. Watching my Sunday Morning U-Tube channels and will then turn on the water for 10-15 minutes to shave and do the other necessary acts. Then off to Texas Roadhouse for an early dinner. Will try to get my gym work in to, can;t wait around since the gym closes at 6pm on Sundays.
shoe, glad life with family wasn’t too stressful.
Taters, I’m lucky that I have pretty quiet neighbors, can’t recall having a loud party in many years.
Cookie, hope the repair gets done…sometime.
BBBoo, sounds like FCM would want you as a neighbor…
Flyboy, I have been in a kayak once in my life, and that was enough, thank you. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
FCM, I always get my mail on the afternoon run, it used to be usually around 3-4pm, these days in can run as late as 8pm.
OK, need to add some clothing and go out to turn the water back on for a short time. All y’all take care.
