Halfway thru the year in the MMP

Busy day. I forgot bread yesterday and have to walk back to the store for that. Then it’s cooking and baking for sonny boy’s visit (with two of their three dogs ) tomorrow. Also have to water plants, do some laundry, etc.

@swampy, I didn’t even notice the cake slice yesterday! Thanks for pointing it out to me. I feel so blessed to have found this place, especially the MMP. And I have Cecil/@Ed_Zotti to thank. I read his books for years (and bought some), loved them, and used some material in my classes before it finally occurred to me to check for an online presence. Every time someone starts sniping at or about him, I get upset because I’m grateful and think they should be, too. There, my slice of cake came with five minutes on a soapbox. I’ll shut up now.

Good luck, shoe! I also hated resumé writing. It always seemed like bragging, even though reading resumés from job applicants never struck me that way. We’re tougher on ourselves, I guess. And I agree with doggio. To me, your accomplishment was that you EARNED that management position. THEY screwed it up by making it impossible to tolerate very long–hence the revolving door.

FCM, hope the boating is relaxing and fun, and your nameless fears are for naught.

doggio, that dream could be an action movie, albeit one directed by Salvador Dali.

flyboy, glad the missus is OK. How’s the knee today?

Live dangerously and do it at natural, it will be more exciting for the neighborhood! Add a little spice to your life, plus you could just shower up in the sprinkler.

That would be an excellent deal for me, less so for her!

But… But it’s fun!

Wifey’s arm is sore. She said she didn’t feel like going into town today. I said, ‘Maybe we can get the kayaks out.’ She said, ‘You can get the kayaks out!’ Left knee is still a little swollen and sore, but getting better. It didn’t stop me yesterday!

I always think of this video when I see kayaking comments. The guy is certifiably nuts.

Me, too. (Me three, me … four? Lotsa resume haters in the thread.
… my peeps! At least misery has company.)

Finding every possible way to put it off. Dragged the big bin out - after mom’s cleaning spree it’s full to the brim, do NOT wanna forget that - plus it’s, yanno, lunchtime and I’m still trying to regain some lost weight. Have had a roll with a hard-boiled egg (basically ersatz egg salad) and some crackers with cheese & a bit of this weird vegetarian “caviart” found in the pantry. Have the leftovers for some killer chicken soup waiting as well.

Home again! We had a nice few hours out on the water. We headed to the Bay first, but it was pretty choppy and not a lot of fun being thrown around, so we went up the Patuxent River a few miles, and it was calmer.

Best of all, when we got back, we were able to back into our slip, so now getting on and off is lots easier since we don’t have to climb over the rail. It was great having Daughter there - she knows what to do without being told and she’s strong enough to do what needs doing.

Now time for chillage.

Speaking for myself, I have all kind of worries about that boat. I’m glad you guys are fixing it up, end to end, but it does seem to have been neglected. Deferred maintenance as it were.

I’m glad you had fun on your outing.

A bear after my own heart.

A friend of mine went from 2 kids to 3 and said they went from one-on-one to zone defense. I just thought they were nuts.

Is this at the retired housing place where you are living? If so, there’s your answer.

flyboy back when I was a young 'un, I climbed into a kayak for the first time and rolled it several times for fun (yes, 360), then paddled around. These days I am not that person.

\color{purple}{\text {Shoe}} The best resume writing advice I have is to find a resume (or more than one) that looks good for your desired job and shamelessly copy then modify to fit your experience and the job you want. Linked In is a good place to check for sample resumes, but Google works in a pinch.

My mom and I went out and visited a local nursery, then a local farm stand where I got some corn for dinner, and then we stopped at the new house to check on progress. It’s really coming along. I’ll take some pictures and post them soon. It looks like a real house now and not some 2x4’s with wires.

In theory, 'Beamette will return to me today from her weekend with friends. 'Beamer is playing video games, guarded by the fiercest little dust mop you’ve ever seen. Fortunately, Zorro can be bribed. Also, he is very, very smol.

We’ve got a lot of smoke today. There have been a few local fires. One of which has been described by the fire department as having no forward progress. I’m not sure what that means. Contained? Maybe? On an island? We’re on the Delta, so it may be that.

Happy Sunday everyone. Hugs to all.

The boat itself is sound. The engine was recently rebuilt. The problems were abandoned wires and loose wires, well, and the one burned out blower and associated circuit breaker. But really, it’s a good boat. We’re still learning how to handle it. You’d think going from sailboats to a power boat would be easy, but I think I’d be a lot more comfortable in a sailboat. Weird, huh?

Happy Sunday!

Nice 63 degrees at the park this morning, and mostly nice group of people. Lucy dad took Echo to the small side with him so she didn’t have to deal with Barky.
Big drama yesterday in the afternoon, with police needing to be called to make somebody with aggressive dogs leave. It’s why we stick to early mornings.

No armpit this weekend. I thought my mother would be calling me, but she has been busy with other guests stopping by.

I wouldn’t even know where to start to write a resume. Most of the companies I ever irked for are long gone. Remember corporate raiding?
I think the only place I ever irked that is still in business is McDonalds, and the current company I irk for.

Nellie, all of my son’s father’s grandparents were immigrants. His father’s side was from Sicily, and his mother’s side was from northern Italy, I think.
He and his sisters were born in the 60s/70s.
My Italian friend has a middle name. I know she was born in the US, but her parents and some of her older siblings were born in Italy.
She was born in 1982.
My uncle had a middle name.
He was born 1925. Not sure if he was born in US or Sicily.
I wonder if he used his confirmation name though, as his first name is Italian and his middle name is English.

I’m going to get a collar for Ripple. He is getting sore where his harness is rubbing him behind his leg. It’s hard to keep a collar on a Shar Pei because their necks are so thick with wrinkles, but since he doesn’t pull, I think it’ll be okay. They both go naked in the house, so it’d only be on him when we go out. I have no idea how to measure him, I guess I want to collar fitting down in the wrinkles, not sitting on top of them.
This is becoming a lot harder than it should.

nice pictures FCM

Just got off the phone with an old friend of mine. We went through “frenemy” stage, but that’s b.c we lived together and had to put up w/ each other’s B.S. We are both … problematic, and, frankly, damaged.
But she’s the first person I called when Other Shoe died, and I’m the first person she called when her sister died. We’ve been through :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: together.

Today would have been Other Shoe’s birthday, and is also her birthday. So we had a girly-chat for a bit, which was nice. Her dad is sliding into dementia so she needs to vent, and I’ve been dealing with … stuff … so we just got to talkin’ which was nice.

Solid food ingested! Resume procrastinated!

Good luck on your resume writing shoe. Count me as another who hates that chore. Hugs to you and your friend.

nellie, your doper journey sounds a lot like mine.

sari, Nelson has a fairly thick neck too (think pit bull style, I think it’s a terrier thing). I measured his neck in two places, one for his flea collar and one for the collar that has his ID tags. He wears a vest style harness when he’s leashed (Voyager, available at Chewy or da Jungle) because he still takes spells when he’s excited where he pulls.

The memorial for Kobe was a good remembrance. Snoop, his mastiff brother got a lot of skritches, the dogs played and were spoiled. I think we all know that this will be us with our puppers at some point. Mike had treats and a wading pool for the dogs and sent us home with some homemade duck jerky. I’ll miss that dog.

Once home, I fixed Lebanese chicken, rice and zucchini with onions, bell peppers and mushrooms for Sunday dinner. Twas good.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had some really good munchies in the Parish hall (so good we did not do N.O,L.), got back to da cave, achieved nappage, and have had a sup of burgers 'n chips. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Thus has been Sunday. Chillage ensues.

shoe good luck with the resume. Glad you had a good chat with your friend.

red glad the memorial for Kobe was a good one. Sounds like the doggos had a really good time as well, which I am sure Kobe would have appreciated.

MOOOOOOM glad y’all had a good time on the boat. I still think y’all need a Jolly Roger to fly. :pirate_flag: :pirate_flag:

Seconded!

Also a theme song.

Early evening all. Spent much of the afternoon at the gym, did my pedaling-in-one-place first and then noticed the swimmin’ lanes were open, so changed and got the half-hour I missed yesterday in, along with 25 minutes of sauna, so that accounted for most of the Sirloin and fries I had for my Dine Out meal. Might go out and get something here in a little bit, have some extra cash and I can use their restrooms and save a flush or two here at home. No rain but very cloudy of the “I might rain and I might not” variety.

FCM, nice pics and glad you got to do more with the boat instead of working on it. Looks nice.

shoe/red, sounds like Kobe got a nice sendoff to the Rainbow Bridge. And haven’t prepared a resume in 20+ years, so listen to the other Mumpers.

shoe, glad you and friend got to chat. Sounds like you can help each other get through problems.

BBBoo, when I left the gym after swimmin’ the shirt I had worn while bicycling was still sweat-soaked and I didn’t want to spoil my shower, so went through the gym and to the car with only my gym shorts and my slip-on casual shoes as cover. So far no reports of retinal damage from the gym…

OK, need to get more-or-less properly dressed and go forth to forage for edibles. All y’all have have good evening (or morning) and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

I just answered the door to Richard May, another candidate for the State House (Position 2; Alicia Rule is running for Position 1). I asked him about Universal Health Care, and his answer matched what I want. I also asked him about taxing corporations. He said that if someone can take joyrides into space, they should be able to pay their fair share of taxes. He said our tax system is upside down, where the people who can least afford it pay higher percentages. (NB: Washington does not have a state income tax.) I told him I like not having a state income tax, because I don’t make a million dollars a year. So he’s go our votes!

Baked salmon with freshly-clipped rosemary, and lemon slices, with sautéd broccolini. The Spousal Unit pronounced it good. Goo liked the salmon.

So say we all!
