Halfway thru the year in the MMP

I took out the poop and recycling, so the day hasn’t been total sloth.

BOTH!

Left bicep/shoulder. It’s a morning glory vine, with one leaf that looks different  (there’s a single pot leaf nestled among the heart-shaped morning glory leaves) and a few flowers done in blue.
Line work, not filled in - I don’t like tats with a ton of color. Not to sound too prudish, but they seem garish to me. So the color is just in the outlines.

We spent at least an hour just on the design and placement. Actual inking was about 2 1/2 hours, I guess?
Didn’t hurt too much. Am incredibly pleased with results.

Had to cancel the 4th plans, as the niece’s son tested positive and the weather would likely dictate being inside. So we have a giant bowl of pasta salad and two pecan pies that need eating. I didn’t really feel like driving over there on a holiday, so it’s not a tragedy.

Are you running late?

shoe the tattoo sounds beautiful.

oopsie I like your tatts too!

I didn’t sleep well last night, but I’m not sure why. I skipped my walk yesterday so maybe my body decided to bitch about it.

We had a stupid amount of fireworks going off around here. You’d think that people would look at the state burning down each Summer and realize what dumbasses they were being, but no. I suspect it’s more like, “my house has never burned down, so clearly reality doesn’t apply to me.” In other words, we’ve reach bug out bag season.

Tonight we’ll walk up into the hills just behind the house and watch the various city fireworks from there.

Happy Fourth everyone!

When my son and his wife went through their ‘Japan phase’, they went overboard on the tats. He has 3/4 sleeves, both sides of his chest and back, and some on his legs. All in color and all in the Japanese style of dragons and the like. When he and his wife were staying at a hotel in Japan, he was told he couldn’t use the pool because he was scaring the locals who thought he must be a gangster. I don’t care one way or the other; it’s his body to do with as he wishes.

Scrambled eggs and bacon for the Spousal Unit’s breakfast. She added shredded cheddar. I made an omelette for me; cheddar, jalapeños, and a slice of ham. Bacon on the side. As I was making my omelette she said sarcastically, ‘Have enough jalapeños?’ I checked and told her yes.

I’m sensing a common theme, because the first thing I did this morning was change the litter boxes of my Masters & Mistresses. My plans for the 4th were also cancelled due to a positive Covid test (as were my lunch plans for tomorrow.) So I guess the plan is to sit here in the office all day, surfing the net, playing video games and seeing just how annoying all the fireworks junkies in town can be.

Hope everyone has a safe holiday. The bad news has already started (Highland Park.)

Biggest plan I have today involves shelter pets who need companionship during the commotion.

Lots of loud stuff last night, tonight is going to be horrible. Driving home from the animal shelter around 10pm might be a touch worrying, too. DH will be home with our crew, so they’ll have company.

Wondering if you could rent one somewhere?

Filet mignons and corn-onna-cob for dinner, probably around 17:00. (SWMBO likes to eat early.) We may step outside to watch explosions over the beach. Abbey will hide under a bed. Goo will do her best to ignore the commotion.

Happy 4th of July for those who celebrate. Had to work, since Switzerland seems to think it’s a normal day here.

Did have some thunderboomers, including one that was quite close and got a “BEEP” from my husband. Monday’s a home office day, so didn’t see too many people.

We decided to go ahead and replace some of our windows and changed our insurance. Both contacts are named Bruno, which causes a bit of confusion when talking with my husband. At least the insurance bit is done - and windows won’t be here before November, due to supply chain issues.

When I was little I lit off many a firecracker, but I prefer to leave it to the professionals. A friend of my parents is an eye surgeon and spent most July 4ths on call and/or at the hospital.

Had some local cherries and we’re watching the tomatoes turn red (more exciting than watching the grass grow). Could be another week before we can eat any of them.

Hubby cuts his off the cob, and so now I cut off all the kernels, add them to a bowl with melted butter, add some salt and mix. Tasty and keeps the mess in the kichen. Of course that’s with European corn. Would be a different story if I was in PA/OH. Now THAT’s corn.

Stay safe and healthy!

We have no plans for today. Haven’t even decided what we’re having for dinner. We prolly should talk about that pretty soon.

We don’t expect too mush noise around here tonight. We had a few bangs last year, but not much. We also live in wildfire country, so would rather the idjits keep their fireworks on the other side of the Cascades anyway.

The daughter unit just got herself a new pup. A mini Australian Shepard. She put pics up on the book of faces. Very cute. We hope that when they come to visit he’ll get along with Gibbs. We think Gibbs misses Vinnie and is lonely. He really tried to make friends with the next door neighbor’s 2 new kittens when they were out on the porch a couple of days ago, but they were having none of it.

I may toss some more stuff in the back of the truck to take up to the storage locker this afternoon. Or not. I don’t gotta.

Might go out on the deck and watch the tomato plants grow.

Them’s the plans for today.

Y’all be careful out there.

Home - FCD wanted to escape before Solomons was overrun with people coming for fireworks. Plus I told him he needs to take it easy, and he decided he would. We got the engine started - turns out we were trying to start it while it was in gear, and it didn’t like that. Once it was in neutral, it turned right over. So that’s good.

I went to put the mesh screen in the fresh water strainer and discovered that we didn’t have water in the boat because I forgot to turn the valve back on - duh!! So I did. FCD turned on the fresh water pump, and water started flowing out of a disconnected hose in the aft bilge. The compression fitting failed. I could see what was wrong, but I didn’t have the reach or the strength to repair it, so my poor sweetie had to do it. He replaced the elbow and compression fittings with a length of hose and some hose clamps, and it works fine. Then he washed out the aft bilge as much as he could. We left the access panels out so it would dry.

So, what remains with the electrical? Gotta get the autopilot working, gotta connect the forward head pump to its own breaker - at the moment, it’s hooked right to the battery. And we have to install a new raw water pump forward for the anchor chain washdown. That’s the big stuff. We do need to go down one evening and check out the navigation lights and the spreader lights. And there are bulbs inside that need to be replaced (with LEDs) but that’s not an urgent task.

Which means the next biggie will be opening the water tanks, pumping them out, cleaning them the best we can, flushing the whole fresh system, and refilling the tanks. Good times ahead! However, since pretty much all the electrical is done, we may actually get to go out on the Bay this summer!!

I was just outside hacking back some branches that attack me when I mow. I still need to get some along the side yard, because until this moment, I forgot about them. Guess that’s next on my list. Just before hard-core chillage.

shoe - if you’d like, I can post a pic of your tat here. I’ve posted pics for BBBoo - I’ll gladly do it for you.

Evening all, happy sod off colonials day to those who celebrate!

Happy Moanday the rest of us.

I didn’t read the last half of last week, due to being stupidly busy and travelling and stuff, so sorry if I’ve missed any big news. The trip all went OK, despite having to rearrange everything due to seemingly everyone getting COVID. Met lots and lots of people, who all seemed really nice, and the project looks great, so I’m kind of looking forward to it all now, but I still have soooo much stuff to do first…

Everyone’s getting sick here as well- I’ve been ‘invited’ to a family BBQ at the weekend, the sort of ‘invite’ to which one cannot respond in the negative. The bro, his gf and new babby niece are among the sick though, so they’re not coming, which is a shame. Not too sick, last I heard, but still all plaguey.

Ugh. :frowning:

Afternoon all. Swimming has been accomplished along with sauna and another pound has been deducted (now 282.6 lbs). At this rate I’ll be back to my High School weight by 2024…

Also picked up the week’s apples for snacking purposes, they last a bit longer than bananas do. And wonder of Wonders, Publix had Lean Cuisine Fettuccine Alfredo in the frozen foods, first time I’ve seen it in two months, so picked up some.

Had a peculiar smell in my kitchen. Tracked it down to the dishwasher and apparently one of my steak knives had fallen out and landed on a heating coil, which burned most of the way through the fake wood-plastic handle, then locked around it when it cooled. So spent some time chipping it out and cleaning the area, so hopefully it’ll smell fine come the next load of dishes.

I was going to ask if you were ever going out on the boat or if it was just a science/engineering project to keep you and FCD occupied…

shoe, show and tell them what you are comfortable doing; you’re an independent person and don’t owe them explanations, especially when they are demanded…

Have read all but absorbed only a trifle, so enjoy the day (or evening) and we’ll just hunker down from the inevitable noise tonight.

Happy Independence Day, fellow American Mumpers. I was going to apologize to the Brits here about how poorly we erstwhile colonials have done these past few years, but then I remembered Boris Johnson and am thinking maybe insanity runs in the family…not that any of us Mumpers inherited that gene.

I have no plans for today other than seeing if the gym is open. I slept late because I woke up so often due to the apparent cannon fire on the western front. Then I spent some time doing genealogy for the July 4th note in a Bible thread. Meanwhile, two weeks until I leave for the family gathering, and I still have a lot of work to do on our family history. Why did I start this project again?

@swampbear or whoever’s had them, are boiled peanuts crunchy? In what ways are they different in taste and/or texture from roasted peanuts?

Like everyone else, I’m upset about the Highland Park situation. Again and again and again

shoe, another vote for both…at the same time…maybe with embellishments.
strong text

I’m so pi**ed at the recent Supreme Court debacle that for the first time in my memory I’m not flying my flag for the 4th. Not that anyone in my neighborhood will notice or care.

I accepted the only invitation I got for the Fourth of July~to donate platelets at my local volunteer blood bank. For a couple of hours I’ll get to socialize with young phlebotomists, watch cable tv and stuff myself with juice and snacks. They go out of their way to be appreciative and cheerful and it does my geezer heart good to be around such perky young’uns. I spent the whole day with my grandchildren yesterday, celebrating Harriet’s fifth birthday.

Her mom, my daughter does a little video interview of Hattie every birthday. When asked who her best friend was she said “Grandma”. It doesn’t get better than that.

nellie I’m a damn yankee who spent a while in the south, so my opinion can be taken with an entire salt lick, but I think boiled peanuts are disgusting. Not crunchy, kinda mushy. I only tried them once or twice, so maybe I got a bad batch. I’m still not clear if’n you’re supposed to eat the shells. Either way, yuck.

Boo That’s really sweet with Hattie.

Had a good productive day in the shop. I had to empty the dust collector twice, and I’ve got a 55 gallon drum system. Much better into the drum than up in the air or all over the floor.

Aw thanks, that’d be great!
