Halfway thru the year in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and partly to mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions and sup upon the rest of the various leftovers. Sloth, quality cee-mint pond time, day drinkin’, nappage, and general overall uselessness shall make up the rest of the day. I am most happy to have this as a plan of the day.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

My daughter was complaining about not being able to get COVID shots for Tobias. I checked the county health dept site and they’re doing shots for kids under 5 at a school half a mile from our house. I sent her the link and she made the appointments for both kids this evening. So I have that to look forward to…

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 20c/68f outside and mostly cloudy which accounts for the large amount of sun when I went out earlier. Weather app says “This weather sucks more than Justin Beiber. Oh wait. Nope. Fuck that guy”. I agree with that

Been to the vet with Ophelia, she’s had the soft cyst for years and it pops by itself quite regularly. She’s recently started scratching at it and has made it bleed, but it hasn’t been healing properly. Vet says they could remove it but that’s a concern for an 18 year old cat, so we have a week of anti-biotics to see if that helps it. She has also got the start of feline cognitive dysfunction so we had a talk about that as well. She has an appointment in two weeks’ time for them to have a look at the cyst again and see what it’s like.

My germs are thundering through my system, have barely stopped either coughing, sniffing or sneezing today. Wore a mask at the vets although I didn’t have to, but I don’t want to be spreading this around. Still testing negative so at least I know it’s nothing worse than a “normal” cold.

Good morning everyone.

It’s a warmish 59 degrees and a little damp outside. We’re supposed to see rain showers and clouds today. The sun actually came out yesterday and the husband did some major pruning of the trees that hang over the back fence into our yard. They’re hazelnuts (which grow like weeds around here) and some maple. On the one hand, I kind of miss all the little birds sitting in those branches swooping down to our bird feeder, on the other I don’t my fence rotted out either. The bin yard waste bin is full from the pruning we did out front a couple of weeks ago, and won’t be emptied until Friday. So, we’ll cut all the branches into smaller manageable lengths and pieces and fill the bin each week with enough branches, yet enough room for grass clippings and weeds, until they’re all gone. Yet another reason we need a truck, damn it!

Congrats to Mrs. Bumba on the art show! That’s really nice news!

Some bozo was setting off fireworks again last night. It wasn’t as bad as the 4th, but still loud and near enough to disturb my sleep.

My work day was hellish. Just hellish. I hit the ground running at 0600 and didn’t stop until 4:30 and that’s only because someone pinged me and reminded me that I was supposed to be signed off.

I hope you’re feeling better soonest, boofae!

I’m sorry that the plumbers have to come back, metal mouse. I really hope they find and fix the cause for free, this time!

I hope the kids can start finding some other daycare options soon, FCM. It seems you really don’t have time for yourselves. What do the kids do for daycare when you’re both gone?

There was more, but I’m just too tired to remember everything. I hope you all have a great day!

We went to our first exercise class here at Walking Dead Manor. I wasn’t expecting much, but it was a pretty energetic 30 minutes, so we’ll likely stick with it.

I never watched it but I remember a British comedy set in an old folk home called "waiting for god " a PBS station we never got in my area used to have whole weekends of nothing but British sitcoms … this one was considered lowbrow I gathered

Morning all. Up about 6am again and waiting to hear from the plumbing folks on what time they’ll be here. Until then no plans can be made. Heading for 92F but rain is forecast for the early afternoon so we’ll see.

Boo fae, hoping Ophelia’s cyst and your cold go away.

OK, guess I should get dressed and do a few things around the house. All y’all have a good one.

Way before we committed to living here, we were warned by the marketing director that we sounded too young for the place (at 75!) and that there were a lot of people with walkers and wheelchairs living here. She was right, but it’s a nice apartment with a good view and garage parking. We do our thing and they do theirs. And cable is only $85/mo.!

So jealous! Hazelnuts are among my favorite foods.

That hasn’t happened yet, but I told her yesterday she needs a contingency plan.

MetalMouse - I assume there’s no chance that someone is helping themselves to your water via a hose?

FCD has left for his Dr appt (with the doc who did his second knee) and after, he’ll head to the boat. Tobias had a short bottle (4 oz) and he’s now napping - I hope Higgs doesn’t start barking so the kid will get a good sleep. That pretty much sums up the day so far. Time to do a puzzle or two.

Nope, the water meter is spinning away quite steadily and my outlets are near my front door and inside my back yard fence. Still awaiting their call, storms are due in a couple hours according to the Weather Wizards which will restrict their efforts. Just checked the meter again and it’s showing about 1,300 gallons used in the past 24 hours…surprised my house hasn’t just floated away…

Today is my son’s AND my brother’s birthdays. (Son was born on brother’s birthday, daughter on sister’s birthday.) I have a kid who’s 40. How did THAT happen?

I woke up stupid early and couldn’t get back to sleep. At least no loud booms last night! My only plans for the day are the gym and plant watering.

MetalMouse, I sure hope the plumbers get there pronto. 1,300 gallons in 24 hours is [mutter, mutter, carry the one] 54 gallons an hour. And your next water bill would be for 39,000 gallons. That’s insane!

Taters, hope today is 0% hellish.

So will you have to take the grands for the shots?

ETA: MetalMouse, when all the water is turned off in the house , is the meter still running?

Ironically, I dislike them…

Been busybusybusy with project work here; the deadline for the final hand-in fast approacheth, and I’m still just starting my main experiments. I think I shall have the last major component started off tomorrow, though I’ll have to do one last bit of that in a few weeks, because we’re one growth cabinet short. Oh well. I should be able to get it done in time.

Boofae, there’s been a truly rotten cold going around the campus here for a few weeks now; I got it about a month ago, and I’ve still got a bit of a cough… Hope it’s not so bad for you if it’s the same one!

Could it be a faulty meter??

I’ll help, but I wasn’t sure they’d accept a non-parent bringing them to get shot. And it’ll be easier with two of us to wrangle 2 kids.

Quiet continues to reign…

That’s been my thought, but the Water Department is sticking with the “you must have a leak” mantra. One reason to get the plumbing folks out here is to have them test the system again and determine if I have a leak or not. Once I have that in writing, then I can really go after the Water folks if justified.

That…is an interesting question. I have a shutoff tool, just might try it out and see…

Nut, keep at it, we’ll be rooting for you.

Yeah, I’m skeptical that you could be leaking 1300 gallons a day without noticing a mushy yard or anything.
Hope this whole situation gets resolved ASAP.

I don’t think I’ve ever just eaten a hazelnut (they’re big and hard, right?), but I do like a bit of hazelnut flavoring in my coffee now and then, and I love Nutella way too much.

We had a relatively calm holiday weekend at the Zoo. On the fourth itself, it was surprisingly quiet. I think, after a couple years of people not being able to get together with family and friends, everybody was going to a cookout somewhere. I wasn’t complaining. And, they’ve finally started hiring some new employees, so we weren’t ridiculously short handed as usual.

I’m still ready for my weekend. TGIW!

Happy Hump Day!

It’s not bad outside, supposed to rain, I think.

Got the brats off to daycare.
Both of them are acting weird. I probably should have kept Ripple home. He’s not sick, but not himself. The daycare said he is fine health wise, but is not himself.
I think Echo is just tired. We got home late from the armpit on Moonday and she was not happy. I figured out that she wanted me to come to bed but she’s still dragging around.

My mother looks horrible. If she doesn’t keep her feet up, they turn as purple as plums. I told her to get her feet up and keep them up, she has enough trouble getting around without trying to walk on stumps.
Such a weird visit too, as we all took a nap. Her on the loveseat, my son on the couch, and me in the chair.

Niece1’s dog got bitten by a snake. Fortunately, it was just a black snake, so nothing serious. Cerby corned it in the yard and as it went to strike him, Asia ran between them and she got the strike instead. Then she grabbed the snake. shook it, and flung it.
She is very protective of her family.

I have a shit ton of stuff to do today, I’m slowly irking my way through the list.

I guess you’re lucky you get your water bill once a month MetalMouse, or it could have been a really high bill. Everybody I know in MD gets their bill once every three months. If you have a problem, it takes longer to know about it.
I hope you get it figured out soon.

I like hazelnuts, but are they the ones you can get poisoned if you eat too many of them? Never mind, it’s Brazil nuts that can be poisonous in large quantities. Hazel nuts are the ones they never put enough of in a bag of mixed nuts.

I need to get back to busy.

Oooooh boy. The parental units are on their way. (My mother is obsessed with sour cherries and takes a “vacation” to Michigan most summers to the pick-your-own orchards, dragging my poor 80-something year old dad along “so he can relax.”)
Now that I live here, they can leave their dehydrator with me for the year (joy!) and come visit each summer (joy!).

I have a fresh tat and just quit my job. Broke, gonna beg my dad to please put some gas in my car for me. And haven’t really cleaned up “enough” and still have a half-filled weed pipe sitting out that, ya know what? I don’t feel like putting away. My house. My rules.

Thiiiiiiiiis is gonna be fun. For certain values of the word.

I’ve put on a t-shirt that just barely covers the ink, until I can tell what kind of mood they’re in. There’s already gonna be enough shame and disapproval.
And stubbornness.

Two years ago when I worked at the dispensary (selling the devil’s lettuce OMG!) and they came to visit, I told the other budtenders, “If I don’t show up tomorrow, check the prison, and the morgue.”

For reference, 15,000 gallons would fill the swimming pool I had in Morgan Hill. It was large enough to swim laps in.

Have you tried involving the city? There’s something really weird going on. That’s wayyyyy too much water for a simple pipe leak. If you’re not seeing all that water going somewhere, you’ve got a sinkhole or that meter is busted.

Good luck. This sounds awful.

Nut I also dislike filberts, excluding yourself

Sending strength \color{purple}{\text {Shoe}}. Just remember: 51 weeks of the year, they’re too far away to reach you.

I didn’t really hear any bangs around here last night, which was nice. We’ll see what the weekend brings. The fire department was busy and the EMT folks were even more busy. Lots of people spent the holiday discovering that fireworks cause injuries.

I’m off in a bit for a walk before it gets too hot. After that, I need to make my kids actually do their chores.

Take care everyone. Happy Wednesday.

First trip to the local Costco. It’s only about ten minutes away. Boy, prices have sure gone up since I was last in the Oregon store a few months ago!
