Halfway thru the year in the MMP

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 18c/64f and partly cloudy, also partly sunny. Weather app says “Calm your titls, it’s not that fucking bad out”…and it isn’t, although the only going out I’ve done was to haul the bin to the pavement and back across the drive once it was empty.

Apparently good weekends away come at a price and I have come down with a cold. It’s not covid, I’ve done tests on two consecutive days and they’re both negative. However, I didn’t sleep at all well last night and wasn’t feeling well enough to traipse to campus today so I will be working from home instead. Don’t want to be sharing my germs with all and sundry, do I?

Busy day today just working through stuff, but I feel like I got some things done. Tomorrow I have to go out at lunchtime as we need to take Ophelia to the vet. She has a cyst-like bleb on the side of her neck that swells up and usually gets a claw caught in it - we took her to the vet when it first appeared and they attempted to do a needle biopsy on it but the needle went in and the warm liquid contents went all over the vet!

We know it’s not something nasty, but just recently she seems to be popping it more often and now the site is bleeding. I think it might just scab over and cause an itch, which she scratches and pulls the scab off again. But it’s making quite a sticky mess of her fur. I’ve tried cleaning it, it doesn’t look infected but it just never heals up properly. Hopefully the vet can shave the fur away from it and put some kind of dressing over it to help it heal, it’s in just the wrong place for a successful Cone of Shame as it would rub on the site and just make it worse. Thus, to the vets she must go.

Tobias didn’t sleep nearly long enough to please me, but what can ya do? He’s been changed, fed, and he’s playing. I added the carrots and spuds to the slow cooker, so supper will be done when I get home.

I contacted a local jeweler about resizing my wedding ring - it barely goes over my arthritic knuckle and I’m not taking the chance of getting it stuck, so it’s sitting on my dresser till I can get it stretched. Hoping I can drop it off one day this week.

FCD is on his way home. He’s frustrated with the network on the boat and he needs a break. He won’t be happy when I ask him to watch the Tobester while I take the clothes off the lines. Sucks to be him…

Is it Firday yet??

Very nice tat, shoe!

We were warned about possible storms today, and I heard the first thunder at 12:55pm (just as I started typing this). The rain started a few seconds earlier. Now it’s almost 1:30, and still raining; the thunder has been both distant and sporadic. Seems like the sun might be trying to peek out again, so maybe this round will be ending soon.

Last night wound up going well, with kind of perfect weather. Dinner of a tiny burger, corn on the cob, and roasted potatoes was very yummy, but I overdid it with the potatoes and had to go lie down for 20-25 minutes shortly after we ate. (I’ve been able to overeat potatoes before without ill effect… *sigh*) The husband half of my BFFs started carrying his fireworks stash up the driveway at 9pm, and the “show” – in the street right in front of their house – lasted for 20-25 min. A few of the fireworks were ridiculously loud for a residential neighborhood, but there wasn’t anything as big/nerve-wracking as he had last year and I will admit that everything was very pretty. Their neighbors seemed to appreciate them, too. At the end, one neighbor’s 13-year-old daughter went out on their front porch and played the national anthem (well) on electric guitar for us. My friend and I spent longer sweeping up all of the debris than he did setting things up off, but we all chatted and the weather was great and some other folks were still lighting stuff, so all in all it was a pleasant evening. I also got some new-to-me pants from the wife half: a shopping bag of nice jeans and capris that don’t fit her anymore but fit me now (or should fit me very soon). That was much appreciated.

I didn’t get home until nearly 11pm, then stayed up for a while trying on everything in the bag-o-pants (and occasionally tackle-hugging the dog, who was watching me from the bed and seemed happy that I was home…but was less happy about the hugs). There were a few more booms in the neighborhood, but Bailey was happy to go outside and I didn’t hear anything after I finally went to bed. I’m kind of surprised that I’m not more tired today. Maybe it’ll hit me after I eat some lunch.

Boat neighbors to you, and actual neighbors to me! Cool!

Ooooh, I like that!

Seconding dogbutler’s “Awwwww”!

Hrmph. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Oh yeah: it’s my Dope-i-versary! I signed up 18 years ago today. I credit the fact that I haven’t been banned yet to my deliberate avoidance of Great Debates (and Politics & Elections).

There were no, count them; NO, booms here last night. We think people around here are too afraid of wildfires to be doing that stuff. Or maybe we’re all grownups. Naw. We’re afraid.

We’ve got to go up to The Dalles today to hang some of Wifey’s paintings in the county library. They’ll be there for a month. The library’s share of any sales will go to the local friends of the library fund, so a win-win.
We’ll also hit the Fred Meyers and maybe Safeway while we’re there and stock up our larder. Maybe we’ll even have lunch, if we can ever get our butts in gear and get out of here.

To that end, I’m gonna jump in the shower. Wifey’s been threatening to do that for a couple of hours now, so one of us needs to make good.

Y’ll be careful out there.

Stick a few people with the bill for fighting gigantic wildfires and look what happens. FAFO as it were. I like it!

I don’t get it. People here have to get up early to work. Fireworks are more expensive. Why was it a war zone here (and by Taters and some of the rest of us) when some of you had such quiet nights? I finally fell asleep quite late but was jolted awake at 2 a.m. by one of those big mortars going off about 25 feet from my window. Despite the reminder that fireworks aren’t allowed in the complex (or maybe because of it), someone just HAD to set off a big one in the common area.

I hope every last one of those rude idiots has the kind of crappy day you get with no sleep. And I hope when they get their credit card bills, they rue the big bucks they spent on the stupid fireworks. Not that they’ll remember it next year. Maybe if I start a rumor that Antifa controls the fireworks market…

Today is injection day. I’m hoping it helps the itching AND nervous because this is when the Big Itch started last month. And now I have Elton John singing, “The Itch is Back” in my head. Maybe if I ask nicely, he’ll segue into “I’m Still Standing.” Anyway, I’ll walk to the bus station, take a bus, walk to the clinic, get the shots, and reverse the whole thing. Then I’ll go to the gym.

Oopsie, Happy Dopaversary!

Bumba, congrats to Mrs. Bumba on having her paintings selected to be hung!

BooFae, one of my son’s elderly dogs has the same thing but on her face. It’s getting removed on Wednesday–benign, but they’re worried about infection. Hope Ophelia’s lesion heals fast. And I hope YOU feel better quickly!

MetalMouse, well, THAT’S frustrating. If the plumbers did a lousy job, I hope they fix their error for free. That’s such a LOT of water, it seems like it’d have to be a massive leak. If nothing was missed, what’s your next step? I sure hope you get answers.

sunny, I can think of few things worse than a migraine on National Racket Day. You poor thing. I hope the “hangover” diminishes soon.

Afternoon all. Bicycle had been pedaled for 13.2 miles/423 calories in an hour and man, do I sweat while doing that! My t-shirt, which I had planned to wear back to the gym tonight, is soaked with sweat and needs to go into the laundry. Don’t know if I’ll go back today or not, only so many shirts… Also picked up five 20"x30"x1" air filters at Mart of the Wal which should last me the rest of the year. So now just waiting for the electric and water bills to appear in my mailbox.

nellie, appendages crossed that the injection does it’s duty and Burns Down the Itchin’ (I can do Elton references too…). Sorry you were stuck on the front lines, it was relatively quiet here after about 9:30pm.

Bumba, hope Wifey’s art display is popular.

Exactly my feelings!

boofae, feel better soon and hope the vet can treat Ophelia without any unexpected showers…

OK, watch Pardon the Interruption in about an hour then maybe go back to the gym for the second ride before dinnertime, since I’m still in my gym shorts and shoes/socks We’ll see. Take care all.

I’m sure that once she’s eligible for adoption (currently on a stray hold), she’ll have no trouble finding a forever home.

My local idiots don’t have the brainpower to even THINK about fire hazards.

DH had to call out from work because he’d gotten NO sleep.

I hope that you find the possible other leak soon metal mouse. The plumber should be scoping it free this time, given that it was missed in the original check.

Poor Ophelia. A couple of years ago, Nelson had a soft cyst on his shoulder for about a month. I called the vet for advice early on and she told me to just keep an eye on it until his check up (it was due about a month and a half from the appearance). I kept an eye on it and after about 2 weeks, it popped on its own. I kept it clean and used some antibiotic salve on it until it healed. The vet pronounced it healed when he went in. I hope that hers heals soon too BooFae.

Yay on your wife’s showing / sale bumba!

Picked up the prescriptions, some mouthwash, lotion and vaporub while at CVS / Tar-jay. I filled up the tank from ~1/8 today and spent more on a tank of gas than I have since 2005. :open_mouth: I’m so glad that I don’t have a 65 mile (total) a day commute anymore.

I pretty much finished the project and will reconcile the spreadsheet / picture file over the course of the next two evenings.

The skies opened just before I had to go get Roxy, and I ended up soaked!! Once I got the kids into the house, I stripped down, grabbed one of Daughter’s robes, and literally wrung out my clothes before throwing them into the dryer. My shoes are still wet, and they wet my socks on the trip home, but I’m in dry slippers right now, and that’s nice.

SIL has to work on Firday because his coworker is on vacation, so I’ll have the kids again. I told Daughter today that I just want to do this 3 days a week - I need time for myself and I plan on my 4-day weekend. But for now, I’m stuck with 4 days this week. Dammit.

No doubt about it - I need chocolate!

Howdy Y’all! Mowage, laundry, sloth, nappage, and general overall uselessness were accomplished. A big day for us! I’m sure we’ll be so exhausted we sleep through the night. Various and sundry leftovers comprised sup and 'twas good.

Oopsie Happy Doperversary!

BooFae hope Ophelia and you are better soonest.

Bumba cool deal on wifey’s art showin’.

MetalMouse hope the plumbers find the leak and at least give you a break on fixin’ it.

Okay, that was funny.

Feel better, darling.

Got to the infusion clinic and the nurse asked to see my epi pen, which I have to carry with me in the unlikely event the shots send me into anaphylactic shock. I always keep it in my purse. Dammit, not there! Then I realized I’d left it in my backpack when I went to Seattle. They discussed it and decided I could get the shots anyway if I swore I’d put the Epi pen in my purse when I got home. Deal.

Right after I got on the bus to go home, a guy came on who was apparently both mentally ill AND high. He was encrusted with dirt and kept ranting and cussing. A cop got on the bus and told the guy to empty his water bottle outside. The guy cussed him out. The cop asked him if he’d cussed at him, and the guy said no, but a rider got up and told the cop how the guy had been acting. The cop told Ranting Guy to keep his mouth shut and told the driver to keep an eye on him. Well, the guy ranted about spiders all the way to town and occasionally thrashed about. I guess the bus driver couldn’t hear him. I felt sorry for RG but wished I’d taken a different bus.

It sprinkled rain on my walk home–most refreshing, and it made the birds ecstatic. I only did four miles, so I’m off to the gym next.

Why, thank you!

Evening all. Did my pre-dinner biking, went by calories this time so totaled 800 burned in the two sessions, at least according to the bike’s computers. Then spent $102.75 for a full tank of gas (should last me until August) and ate my usual Mac-n-Cheese for dinner. So all set for a quiet evening.

nellie, glad all the guy did was rant…these days you never know…hope the infusions take.

FCM, don’t want to start a family feud, but can’t the other Grandma do some sittin’ for the kids? And chocolate has definitely been earned.

Just got a little rain shower, just a cloud overhead that was nice enough to soak the yard so I don’t have to water it. So hopefully sleeping will be comfortable tonight.

All y’all have a good evening/morning.

Ah, the “poured last night so we got extras!” fireworks are starting off. Yay.

And Abbey is off to underbed.

It was another day of heaving, another day day of Captain Queeg.

Happy Dope-i-versary!

Hope Ophelia heals quick, Boofae.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

The other grandma is younger than I am and she’s still working, so babysitting during the day is right out. I did talk with my daughter and told her they need to have contingency plans because I make plans too. She said SIL talked to his boss about their need for notice (for whatever reason, he didn’t know his coworker was going on leave.) So we shall see how it goes.

For some reason, this computer lots its ethernet IP (?) and I had to connect via WiFi. Restarting didn’t help. I haven’t a clue what’s going on but I don’t like it. Maybe plug the ethernet cable into a different port on the router? I know we’ve had ports fail in the past. I’ll deal with it later.

With luck, today will be a boring day. I need to clean the kitchen, and I’ve decided supper will be burgers. That pretty much sums it up.

Happy Wednesday!
