It’s not salt water hereabouts. We’re near the middle of the bay and at worst, it’s brackish. But with all the rain we’ve been having, lots of fresh water is draining into the rivers feeding the bay. Plus Mercedes Guy doesn’t live here - he drives in from Virginia, just to wash his SUV and sit on his boat.
Even when it’s not killer hot, I’ve found this to be true. The days of 8 hours playing in dirt are long behind me. I’m thrilled to get two consecutive hours before I want to quit… which is why my yard looks like crap this year. Well, that, and all the overly-mentioned boat work.
The booming around here was limited and far enough from my doorstep that it was mostly muffled. Our critters took no notice, and by the time I went to bed around 9:30, I wasn’t hearing any more. Then again, lots of folks around here work on the base and their work day starts early, so that could explain it.
Another early day for me - I woke just a bit after 5. I tread the mill and showered before bed, so when I woke, I just had to brush my teeth and get dressed to start the day. Critters have been tended, water fountain refilled, two baskets of dirty clothes have been sorted, and there’s a load of shorts in the washer now with a load of t-shirt on deck. I’ll have both loads on the line before SIL delivers the babby.
Much as I hate hanging at Daughter’s house, I’ve decided I’ll just stay there after picking up Roxy. That way, FCD can nap if he wants to and my house won’t become a disaster area every afternoon she’s here. She seems less frenetic at her house, and since I’m there anyway (her school is 1/4 mile away) I’ll just stay the 2 hours. Plus I can run to Aldi or Food Lion on the way home if I need to.
I think some day this week, Roxy is being evaluated by the county school people to see if she qualifies for their speech therapy program. I wouldn’t have thought much of how she talks, but since my daughter was a teacher and, yanno, had all that training, she’s noticed things that set off her spidey-senses. If in fact there’s an issue, she’ll be admitted to the county pre-K this fall, saving all of us a buttload of $$ (the Montessori tuition is going up to just over $1K/mo starting in August.) She’ll be in public school eventually anyway, and while it’s not the same quality as the private school, it’s still got lots to offer. So we shall see…
And so the day begins. Happy Tuesday!!
