White Lightning and ArchiveGuy, are some of the locals who responded in the SPAM thread. Since I have a major jones for Mario’s La Fiesta in Berkeley, who has the most excellent flautas (both cheese and chicken), it’s time to head on up there for some chow. Please check out my Ultimate Recipe Thread for their chicken and rice soup recipe. It will give you an idea of how yummy their food is.
Now I ask you, what better place to celebrate Halloween than on Telegraph Avenue where you can’t tell who is in a costume and who is dressed for work? We’ll hit Mario’s and then maybe a Microbrewery or two for afters.
Let’s hear from y’all, Baglady, Obsfucaitrist, Tradesilicon, oldscratch, voguevixen, Sue Duhnym, Sassy, Seadiver, Snooooopy, pugluvr and Kyla.
What about it? I say it’ll be lots of fun. I figure the best time would be Saturday afternoon on the 28th. Sunday could work too, but a few of us might be waiting for their Halloween party after effects to wear off.
In addition, all of the street vendors will be in full swing for the Holidaze. There will block after block of all sorts of crazy stuff for sale. Feel free to email me about it, but please, also respond in this thread to shamelessly bump it to the top of the heap.
PS: Pugluvr, we can sneak off to Neldam’s Danish bakery and The Nordic House afterwards.
Lanochka and I will be at a major event on Sat, and expect a major hangover on Sun. I’ll watch this thread, and if you guys end up getting together Sunday we will try to get there (through the haze).
Actually, I have no idea what Mrs. Batty and I will be doing for Halloween, so it’s a definite maybe. I’ll just have to clear it with the CEO (Mrs. Batty).
And no, I don’t really have a Carmen Miranda costume.
Zenster, if I were ten years younger, I’d take you up on it. My partying-all-night-dressed-in-a-weird-costume-on-the-streets days are past. Used to do that in Hollywood before it got weirded out down there. I do want to hear about how it went, though.
Eat some Danish for me (in between the margaritas)!
I cannot yet be certain if I’ll be in town that weekend or not, but if I am, I’ll be there.
Not having done one of these before, how will everyone recognize each other? Given that it’s Berkeley, maybe a “Bush/Cheney” button, or maybe everyone wears blue suits and power ties?
