I know there are many arguments we can have about the strain of changing back and forth between Standard and Daylight Savings times and about which time we should settle in if we cut it out, but this isn’t that.
This is my favorite day - nay, week - of the year! For at least five days, I’ll spring out of bed cheerful at a reasonable hour of the morning when the sun is at least starting to make an appearance. Sure, I’ll be a little sad when it starts getting dark at 5 pm, but dinner will be on time because it won’t sneak up on me! I’ll be hungry for lunch at lunchtime instead of mid-afternoon! When I walk outside at noon, the sun will be (close to) directly overhead, as God intended!
Bottom line: I never adjust completely to DST, and this is the week when my natural tendency towards tardiness disappears by the grace of the time change. It makes me unnaturally bubbly!
Sorry in advance for the commensurate surliness next spring.
Yeah, the cats aren’t fans. But this week, I run the household for my enjoyment! (No, I won’t. The household is set up for cats and the humans are just here to serve.)
I don’t have any adjustment issues but I like this day because it has an extra hour in it. What’s not to like about a 25 hour day? And especially one that for most people is not a workday.
For only the second time ever I forgot to change my clocks. When I woke up today, after a late night, it was too late to get to church on time. So I piddled around, then realized what was going on. And so I was STILL too late for church. Oh well, our service is livestreamed, I can watch that. It was All Saints Sunday and I like that but missed it.
My phone, computer, and bedside clock change themselves. That’s where I get my time info from.
My microwave and range don’t auto-update, but I also don’t look to them as a source of time. Although I did update them mid day when I thought of it. Fixed the few minutes they’d drifted off too.
Next time I drive I’ll need to update the car. This being a big building it’s not conveniently located just outside my door.
Our youngest, who has an incredibly accurate innate sense of time, has been perturbed with us today. The older one has been a little out of sorts but not as much as his little brother. We try to get them used to the timing by moving their breakfast, lunch and dinner times slightly over a period of time. Then when it happens, they’re not so upset. This time we didn’t prep them enough and they’re a little confused. People who have no pets often laugh at the lengths pet owners go to making their furry friends comfortable.
Our dog Loki woke me in the middle of the night to go out. While I was up I noticed the stove clock was an hour off, so I fixed it to match my phone. When we awoke in the morning, my gf thought the stove updated automatically.
Ah, it was glorious. I’m in complete agreement with the OP.
I could say it really is my favorite day of the year. The balance has been redressed for the hour the bastards stole from me last March, and it’s a time of year where autumn is finally here in earnest…to stay; finally putting a stake through the heart of an Indian Summer that overstayed its welcome…and it was welcome at all to me in the first place.
The only, and first-world problem-ish issue I had was that despite the added hour, my Fitbit subtracted that hour from my sleep.
If you hate Daylight Savings time you need to read this obituary from 2013. For this thread the eighth and the eleventh paragraphs are relevant but the whole thing is wonderful.
The first few days after fall back are just like when I travel West for vacation. I feel like a real go-getter getting up at a reasonable hour, full of energy. It doesn’t last long, I’ll be back to my lazy self before Friday. It’s the opposite in the spring, I’m extra lazy and tired for a week before I resort back to just regular lazy and tired.
I always have an early event on the first Sat in Nov. This year was extra early & I had to be up at 3am to be there on time. I used to do a race in Chicago on Sun but even with the two extra hours of sleep I got (one for clock change & one for time zone change) I was still dragging for it. Now I only need to get up at 6am to make the marathon. I welcome the extra hour to make up for the lack of sleep & 18-hr Saturday!
I love the extra hour- we always change the clocks Saturday night so we can enjoy the extra hour then. I go to bed fairly early, 8:30-9:00. So my first issue is now I’m yawning, sleepy-eyed and wanting to go to bed at 7:30. I get up at 5am to feed and walk the dogs. So the other issue is that one of the three dogs is waking me up around 4am. I let them out to go potty but then go back to bed. But it’s a bad time. By the time I fall back to sleep, IF I can fall asleep, it’s time to get up again. Hopefully we’ll get things evened out again. I’m sure it happens every year, I just don’t remember how long it took.
