Happy (Lesser)Holidays - A Festive MMP

Moooooom, would the marine museum be accessible to your in-laws? And would it even interest them?

Conga rats wet one! Enjoy your retirement.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels ready for the dryer and a load of clothes on deck. I’m fixing to do the menu planning and likely order the groceries on Insta Cart, since Nelson has a vet appointment this afternoon.

Breathing through my nose is getting a little easier, but my eyes are still itchy / gummy and my throat gets itchy if I don’t keep up with the antihistamine dosing. I’ll just be glad when all of this tree sex is done for the year. I’m pretty sure that Nelson will be too, given that it makes him sneeze and he doesn’t get as many dog park trips in.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 43 degrees with an expected high of 53 and non-stop “light showers” or rain. In other words, wet stuff will fall from the gray clouds all day and night.

I am currently finishing some coffee and then will make myself presentable for the public. I need to hit the nursery for some plants or flowers for Mother’s Day and take care of a couple of other errands. I plan to pick up several Enzian plants for my mother, a type of flower that grows in the mountains around her home in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. There was a time you couldn’t get them here, so it’s cool to see them and I think she’d really like them. I plan to put them in a planter along with some kind of white alpine plant to offset the incredibly vivid blue of these flowers. I need several because they like being together. https://www.edelweissperennials.com/gentiana-acaulis-hybrid-holzmann-lg-pots. There are many different kinds, and I’m sure I won’t get the exact flower that she grew up with, but it’s still a bit of home for her. I don’t think she’ll ever get back to Germany now, so now she can have a little piece of it in her garden.

I’m glad you were negative for the 'rona, Metal Mouse. It’s too bad yesterday was such an incredibly soggy day so you couldn’t see the mountain. I hope your cruise is amazing.

Congrats peedin, on your retirement! I’m jealous but in a good way. I really am sick of working and can do it, but I am trying to bulk mine up before I take the plunge. Besides these last months have not been kind to my TSP account.

Well, I suppose that’s all the news that’s fit to print. Not really news; just my mundane life.

Congratulations, wet one! I hope you get your nap in and that retirement is absolutely wonderful for you.

Today at work started off, well, it kind of started off yesterday around 7:30 pm when I was standing in Costco and a co-worker texted me about some big hubub, which started a whole stinkin’ chain of events (not all bad) that led to me working until about 11 last night after an already long day, unintentionally passing out on the couch in the basement, then logging back on at 6 this morning. Most of it is politics & posturing, so just a lot of emails.

Anyway, it’s Friday so it’s pretty common for the world to explode at close of business Friday; at least it happened earlier than usual, which works better for my schedule ('cause it’s all about me).

I’d better get some food, and hopefully a waddle in later. It’s cool and rainy outside, but so very green. I’m sure I’ll be back later to kvetch.

Morning all. Found the top to my mouse right where it had to be (on the floor under the chair) and internet seems to be working ok, so I’ll be a bit more expansive.

wet one, retirement is a big change, but I think you’ll adjust to it just fine. My congratulations.

talkie, why is it always Fridays?

Taters, enjoy the planting.

FCM, enjoy the training and endure the car ride. Take care.

The maple walnut ice cream was at a store in Snoqualmie, a small town near Snoqualmie Falls, which were pretty spectacular neven if I had never heard of them. Friend of mine from years past picked a couple of us up at the Pike Street Market and got us out of the city into the countryside, which was nice on a cold rainy day. Good coversation was had and we got back in time for a Chinese beer at the Dough Zone (dumplings).

Now I need to finish last-minute re-packing, make sure I have my paperwork ready, and get a taxi/Uber for 11am (it’s 7:30am here at the mement). But Bagels for Breakfast First!

All ya’ll take care.

Bon voyage!

Congratulations! Welcome to being a sloth.

:confetti_ball: :fireworks: :sparkler: :fireworks: :champagne: :wine_glass:
Congrats!!

We actually thought about that - I’m pretty sure they’d enjoy it, but we’ll ask first. There’s also a park on the river where I thought we might take a picnic. And there’s a lighthouse museum on the bay. We’re still trying to figure out how to get FIL on the boat.

Accuweather isn’t very accu today. The hourly forecast said rain would hold off till late afternoon. But it started coming down before 8 while we were mowing. Luckily, it was light and we were able to get the back yard done. Then we ran down to the boat to do a few chores there, and now we’re home.

The kitchen is all tidied, except for the floor, but I’ll get that when I vacuum. I need to put away some stuff in the dining room. But for the most part, we’re ready. Well, as ready as we can be. My in-laws are sweet people, but I’m not looking forward to all the time in the car. I hope they sleep a lot.

Happy Friday!

Work has been on the busy side for the past couple of weeks, but it’s juuuust quiet enough today that I can kind of ignore everything…for a little while, anyway…

It was raining when I woke up, and it’s supposed to rain all day today (including t-storms later) and tomorrow. Luckily, I was inspired to do laundry yesterday: the washer and dryer are in an addition, and to get to them I have to walk outside for a few feet. Most of the time I just appreciate the full-size appliances – they’d have to be stackable inside the house – and extra storage space, but it’s a minor annoyance during wet/bad weather. I hadn’t really considered the forecast when I did the wash yesterday, but today I’m feeling kinda pleased with myself.

I’m also feeling kinda sinus-y. In the past month or so I’ve noticed that my sinuses are suddenly reactive to changes in the barometric pressure. I seem to now have a weather nose! :frowning:

Sunday is supposed to be cool and cloudy but mostly dry, and I’m hoping it works out that way because I have tenative plans to go to DC that evening. The venue is one of my faves: casual, cash-only, no liquor license or kitchen (= no minimum), and a very cool place to hear jazz – and it recently reopened, so I want to support the space.

…aaaand maybe suck up to the manager a little and see about booking a late summer gig…

Six years ago today, we entombed my mom’s ashes in the same mausoleum crypt with her parents’ remains (in northern NJ). She’d died a little more than five months previously, but the entombment feels like longer ago than her funeral! We delayed it in order to get past winter and the worst of early spring, because of the long drives involved for my father, brother, and me. Mother’s Day weekend – the first one without her – felt appropriate.

:confetti_ball: :tada:

Yuck. Another full day of rain. I like rain. I do. I got awfully thirsty during those long years in Wyoming. But it’s been raining buckets nonstop since yesterday morning. PT got canceled, and I wasn’t feeling too great, so I slothed all day. I want to take a long walk today, but it’s so cold and wet, I’m having a hard time getting up the nerve. Even walking to the gym (.75 miles) with an umbrella would involve a soaking. The alternative would be two buses, an hour of wait and travel, and a soaking getting to the bus stop. This is when I wish I had a car.

Quitcherbitchin’, Nellie.

Congrats, WetOne! Wishing you a blissful retirement.

whew, talky, that’s a whole lotta work hours! Hope you get to rest up this weekend.

MetalMouse, sounds like a wonderful time thus far!

taters, what a lovely and thoughtful Mothers Day gift!

red, hope the trees go back to celibacy soon. Maybe if you stick your head out the window and shout, “Just say no!” they’d simmer down. Might startle the neighbor kids smoking weed in the basement, but they’d get over it.

Mooooom, sounds like a typical busy day for you. You sure do get things done!

Heaved. Got an appreciation gift from mangement, a nice insulated tumbler.

That’s a good reason to kvetch. Especially if you’re not hourly.

Hey, @JaneDoe42, I know we’ve joked in here about George’s tail, but check out this cat!

A brag: Every since we bought this house, I’ve kept a spreadsheet detailing all of the maintenance and improvement projects done each year, along with the cost of same, the contractors used, and whether or not permits were required. After twelve years, it’s fairly extensive. We included it in the seller’s booklet. Both our realtor and the buyer’s agent told me I’ve set the “gold standard” for providing information to potential buyers, and that it was a big factor in our buyer’s decision to make an offer on the place. :star:

About time I made an attempt to check in on you guys!

Congrats, @peedin ! I’m so jealous. I’ll never be able to retire at the rate things are going.

I found out last night that my son and DIL are splitting up. I’m mostly happy about that, but the grandkids – oh, dear. This will be messy and horrible. But it’s the right thing to do, seeing as how she’s cheated on him, and done other things I won’t go into.

But for now - Happy Friday! I’m sneaking out early. Gonna make some cheeburger cheeburger for dinner, and attempt a baked onion ring recipe encrusted with tater chips! Hmm, I’m not too sure about that, but Mr Rebo printed the recipe for me.

Have a great weekend! It’s supposed to be 100 million degrees on Mother’s Day, and I hear rolling brownouts are possible. Oh the joys of living in Texas.

:

I had to pick up a prescription. Since Wifey, RN was out visiting patients, I thought I’d take advantage of the clear driveway and take the MGB. I hadn’t driven it in… I don’t knot how long. I did start it a couple/three weeks ago. It started up just fine. I went to the hand car wash and scrubbed off the dust and mildew, then went to Ride-Aid drive-through. When I tried to start it again, it wouldn’t. I pushed it to the parking area and kept trying to start it. No joy. I didn’t know if it was flooded, or vapour-locked. I popped the bonnet and chilled for ten minutes or so. Once it rested, it started right up. Must’ve been vapour-lock.

Anyway, the car’s washed and I got my prescription. I don’t know if I’ll have time for a walk today.

It will take a bit to get used to it, but I am sure you will love retirement. Congratulations on winning the game!

Here to whine about yet another day of cold, gloomy, dismal grey weather. I’m developing a galloping case of DSAD-Delayed Spring Affective Disorder.

My sleep is all disrupted-my energy is subterranean. My mood, despite commodious applications of coffee, is dispirited.

Bah, humbug!

My anti-depressant of choice? Following MMP devotedly, keep it coming!

nellie, this is totally random but I saw something that made me think of you - is your handle based on The Nellie Bly, investigative journalist?

I would love histories behind everyone’s handles. Mine’s pretty simple - I talk & write way too much.

'Tis just after four and the brain is shot. Or at least the neurons are firing in the wrong direction (sideways?). For the first time in a while I forgot to eat lunch, which is kind of unheard of. I’m just living on fumes and coffee, or coffee fumes.

Off to visit the mom unit.

Mine’s even simpler - my first name.

Howdy Y’all! 'Tis been a rainy(ish) day. I decided to sloth rather than do the things. Thus, tomorrow I must do the things.

WetOne conga rats! I hope you were able to sneak out without fanfare. It was easy for me as I was one of two people back in our little corner and she was not there that day. Also, my last two weeks of irk were vacation time.

Hope all y’all sufferin’ with sinus ick are better soonest. Right now I am sans sinus ick, but I am sure that won’t last.

Cookie you do indeed deserve a gold star. :star:

Wordy I am a gay hairy man who lives near a swamp. Hence the name.

Same out here in the PNW. Wettest April on record and it’s still going. We may get a break next week, but until then it’s drizmal city.

Feel free to send your extra water to California.
