Happy National Dachshund Day!

I know I’ve been given Flagyl for dogs within the last 10-15 years, so, it’s probably still being prescribed.

Cute video! There are a ton of doxie vids on youtube. Also, a few with “actor” dachshunds like Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund and Doxie Din. Hours of time wasting fun!

Yep, I have to get my Dachsie “fix” every few days, YouTube is great for this. Proof that the universe is cruel and unkind, some people have 2 (or more!) dachsies, yet I have none.

I loved Crusoe’s Game of Bones. I am Darnerys Tarweinergan, first of my litter, breaker of leashes, destroyer of squeakers, and mother of dragonweiners!"

That is one of favorite Crusoe vids, too. I think I laughed all the way through. Although the Batman/Bane one is pretty great, too. “You may put me down now, father.”

Check your PM’s carrps! The package came.

Just replied. Glad you like them! :dog:

Bumping, because…

Archeologists in England uncovered the remains of a small dog, apparently a pet from the Roman era.

The artist’s rendering shows a pupper which, as far as I can tell, is a modern mini dachshund.

Archeologists are gonna have a Field Day on my place some time in the future.

These kind of discoveries are always interesting. Thanks for posting.

Wow, yes! And he’s about the size of Oliver (sorry, Gato, there was some silly family drama around the name which I chose to avoid), who weighs 4 lbs. soaking wet. It’s pretty interesting, but I have a hard time seeing how a dog that tiny could serve as a hunting dog. Except maybe as bait.

Gad zooks, I’d forgotten how much work a baby dog is! No pics yet. He’s still quite anxious from his big move and I don’t want to start shoving a camera in his face on top of all else. He’s adjusting quickly all the same.

He was sick as… well, you know, coming home. It was a 130 mile one-way trip through twisty roads. I marveled at how he managed to puke on everything except himself and the pee pad I’d put down in case of such incidents. Good enough. We made it, and that’s the important thing.

Potty training has been hit and miss, but that’s my fault, not his. It didn’t help that I was struck this morning with a bout of diarrhea. Despite my personal discomfort, I patiently took Ollie out for a morning piddle (success!) before attending to my own needs. I brought him into the loo with me, didn’t have time to do anything else, and he instantly worked out that we were in the right place for pooing. So… that wasn’t a success. “But Ma, YOU’RE doing it here!!” Note to self: Next time, opt for the crate!

He’s playing well with toys and is easily redirected when he starts chewing on things that are off limits. A good puppy NylaBone was my best pre-puppy purchase. He’s already got the idea of what “no!” means. He’s learning his name and how to walk on a lead.

Not much sleep last night for either of us. He was restless and whiny and understandably sad, I think. Hopefully this gets better soon. Poor baby.

Depends what they’re hunting. Did you see the video of Dixie bringing me the rabbit that was bigger than her head? It’s in that link above somewhere. I actually managed to catch a couple of victories on camera by dumb luck. They are Stone Killers!

Yeah, but… 4 pounds? My new fella might be a marauding murderer to a vole, but not much to a rabbit!

Ok, pictures were promised. Here are the first ones at 10 1/2 weeks.

We’re coming along really well. He’s already got potty training down and runs toward the door when he needs to go out. He knows his name, is learning “Crate!” “Come!” and “Settle.” He’s caught on to walking on a lead and won’t need much more training on that. Takes his teeth brushings like a champ. I can’t believe I haven’t even had him a week!

Best thing I ever got him was a puppy Kong. That thing is a godsend!

He loves other people and is cautious but not overly so. He’s quite fierce when he’s perfectly safe in the middle of the night in my bed.

I’m a little proud of him.

How cute!!

He looks like a corker!
Have fun.

Thanks. I think we will. He’s a fabulous little fellow.

Wow! Good looking Doggo! You can tell he’s Smart as a Whip just by the look in his eyes. Congratulations! I think you got a goodun’!

So adorable.

Those demarcated toes just kill me.

I wanna smooch 'em

No, it’s the little brown dots for eyebrows. Wait, no, it’s the floppy ears. No, it’s …

Thanks to all.

@Gatopescado, I think you’re right. I feel very fortunate with this little guy. He is smart, assertive but not aggressive and funny as can be. He’s enriched my life a lot already.

LOL, I have a hard time not doing that, too! Then I remember that he steps in his pee almost every time he does it, and, well… I wash off the paws first.

Those needle sharp puppy teeth. Some of you may remember an ABC made-for-tee-vee movie of the week called Trilogy of Terror, starring Karen Black. Two of the trilogy segments were forgettable, but the third, Amelia, was the story of an Aboriginal fetish doll with big teeth and a spear that comes to life and attacks its owner. Sleeping with Ollie is like that.

@Common_Tater, that’s how I see it, too!

I figure this is my last dog, so I wanted him to be the best one I could find. So far, so good.
