Happy National Dachshund Day!

Well, to me, every day is Happy National Dachshund Day, so…

That is kinda my life… They all I got left.

And they take full advantage of that! The Bastards!

Tomorrow, the 8th, will be my sixth anniversary with Mauser. And it’s a Saturday too, like when I adopted him. I’d put in my application to the shelter and drove up there, about seventy miles. It was hot, and I never had seen him in person yet. When I arrived the lady in charge told me my application had been approved and I could take him home if I wanted. So I did. On the way back I stopped at a Burger King to see if I could get him some water and they even gave me a nice little dish they didn’t charge for. Yay Burger King.

When I got back to Topeka I went to the PetsMart to get him food, a leash, and all the other stuff he needed. Turns out the worker I met in the aisle was just part time, the rest of the time she worked for the vet I took my pets to. So I told her I’d be in Monday morning to get Mauser checked over.

I love this dog.

How about an Anniversary Picture?

I love that Doritos ad! I’d never seen it. But most of my dachshunds wouldn’t have waited for a chip to fall or be tossed. With a coffee table that low, they’d have just jumped up and started scarfing.

Thunderfoot once stole mints out of Aunt Marg’s purse.

I regret to say that I haven’t yet learned how to post pics. But that pic carrps posted here, #30. could be my Mauser photoshopped onto someone else’s furniture.

And here’s Luc from about 15 years ago chasing a squirrel (with my sister):

He ran up there by himself.

And here’s the gang we had before Max:

From the left: Fleury, Shanni, and Luc.

Magnificent! Fleury looks a little like Teddy. He’s white and orange. I named him Ted Nugat, 'cause he looked like an Aba Zaba. And we were big into bad puns.

I was supposed to pick up my new pup today. But the breeder contacted me yesterday to say this litter had come down with a bout of Giardia and his homecoming would therefore be delayed for another 10-14 days.

So I guess Hund. Dachshund. Will have to do until the end of the month. It’s ok. I wanted him to spend a bit more time with his Momma before coming home with me anyway.

I hear this can be pretty bad shit. Hope Buster hangs in there.

The breeder caught it very early. She had done fecals on the crew a couple days ago and they came back negative. Then there was a yucky poo and she tested again yesterday – and there it was.

She assured me the treatment is an easy one, just takes time. She says Giardia is particularly prevalent in Oregon. Good to know.

Poor babies.

I never knew where the Teddy came from…that’s great!

Fleury was named after former NHL player Theo Fleury, because she was small, old, and missing a lot of teeth.

Sorry about the delay, but, yeah, it’s probably better the longer he stays with mom. I know someone who got a puppy at six weeks, and they seems way too soon to me.

To me, too. The breeder wanted me to take Mr. Shovelpaws at 8 weeks and I tried to squirm out of it to 12 weeks. Didn’t work. Giardia at least gives him to 10 weeks, so I guess we split the difference. Not how I wanted an extended stay with Momma to happen, but I’ll take what I can get.

I love everyone’s pics, and I never get tired of looking at @Gatopescado’s collection.

I know. They’re such dachshunds.

Just curious, what is the treatment of choice for our furry companions? Years ago, I think Flagyl was prescribed for humans who contracted Giardia. And it was powerful stuff, arguably not much better than Giardia itself, really tears up the gut I’ve heard.

I’m not sure, but I’ll ask the breeder as well as my new buddy’s vet when I see them in a couple weeks. I’m positive that if there is a better way to treat than what was used years ago, this breeder will be using the more gentle treatment. I’ll let you know what I find out if/when I do.

A great albeit simple video, that shows how fun dachsies are - notice the enthusiasm here - I like the parts where he/she stops on a dime inviting his human to play. https://youtu.be/e6Xxd23tVnI
