Happy Thanksgiving MMP

I am thankful for my family. For my house. That I have a beautiful place to live, with seasons, and mountains, and rain. I am thankful for my silly dogs and great cats.

Everyone in the family called in sick today when I went to wake them up. I don’t know if it’s allergies due to the nasty windstorm and if we’re all fighting a cold, but no one went to school and my husband is napping right now. I may join him shortly.

Home, having survived what was to have been a quick stop at Food Lion. The pre-holiday shopping insanity was well underway. But I got my bread, some oranges that were on sale, some cool whip (because I forgot it the other day,) and a pizza to bake up for supper.

Someone somewhere signed up my daughter for a couple of magazine subscriptions - one for Cosmo and one for a Rachel Ray magazine. Both came to this house, but she hasn’t lived here in 5 years. Weird…

We still have our quarters from yesterday.

I also want to thank MetalMouse for not making me feel like I’m a lazy wimp for not taking care of it yesterday.

I actually hate putting air in tires, totally irrational, but I have a friend whose uncle got killed when the tire he was filling blew out. That was a big 18 wheeler tire, but I still get nervous around tires. And batteries, I hate jump starts.

I have a big pot of chili simmering on the stove. It’s starting to smell yummy but it needs to cook down a bit longer.

Mooom, I’ve gotten used to hurry up and wait being a way of life at work. :stuck_out_tongue:

I stopped at the little market to pick up stuff for Saturday’s broccoli salad and a small ham for Thursday. I was going to get sweet N.O.T.s, but the place had been picked clean of all orange veggies. :frowning: The market was packed tonight and I know that Kroger will be stupid crazy tomorrow.

Leftovers nuked, floors vaccuumed and a load of clothes are in the washer. Go me!

I worked, came home and walked Gordie. Alex Catt hornked on the living room carpet.
I am thankful for hockey, beer, and friends for making the suck no so bad. I will be extremely grateful when this crap is over for another year.

All we’ve had was a beating in front of the police station, an armed robbery at the store, and that stabbing at Little Caesar’s. So it would be a much safer neighborhood.

Sari, my mantra is “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere!” YMMV

rosie, hope I’m in the “one or two things” column.(We all know where Flytrap rates.

Sunny, hope your crew feels better.

Good luck on the Goodwill bag, DeeDee. I find ridding myself of possessions cathartic.

Sympathies to everyone who had to brave the crazy world of grocery shopping today. I’m making an effort to not have to do any shopping this week, and I hope I can stick to that. And I will definitely not be shopping for anything on Black Friday.

So, as another day off winds to a close, I did manage to accomplish cleaning up my kitchen, so there’s that. As for the closet purge, I have one bag of clothes ready for Goodwill, but I didn’t quite meet my goal of filling that second one. I really do have too much stuff, so I’m thinking ahead to New Year’s resolution time. Maybe getting rid of stuff would be a good resolution?

Howdy Y’all! Home from men’s night over to the church house. We had a bigger than anticipated crowd but there was more than enough fixin’s for everyone so all was good. I did have to go into the emergency steak knife supply but I’m glad when I need to do that. OYKW is already abed cause he’s tahrd, poor thing. I shall join him shortly cause I’m tahrd as well. I need to finish spiffin’ da cave tomorrow as well as start on foodstuffs for TDay. The not too shabby Chinese [del]hog trough[/del] buffet will make dindin tomorrow. Yay for that!

{{{sunny}}} hope all the sunbeams feel better soonest.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

HI All! I am thankful for the Shih tzu we adopted from a shelter in June. He’s such a sweetie and has brought so much love and joy into our home.

Blurf. We’re going to my father-in-law’s for Thanksgiving dinner after all. I still have the turkey in the freezer, so there will be a turkey dinner. I just won’t be cooking it on Thursday.

My foot feels loads better. There’s still some pain (and will be for quite a while), but I can put some weight on it without the boot, as long as I support myself. I feel confident that I can go back to work next week. Hallelujah!

The sprog has a half day tomorrow and is off until next Tuesday. In PA, kids get the first day of deer season, which is the Monday after Thanksgiving, so it’s a nice, long holiday weekend.

Pictures of the pooch, PatPat! It’s the rule.

I watch Hoarders for inspiration to get rid of things. If it doesn’t scare you into purging, nothing will.

I made the chili too hot. I added rice and it’s still too hot. I’m hoping another can of beans will work.

I don’t know why but the cat keeps trying to bite my nose. I think it means he loves me.

As I walked Mrs. Plant (v.3.0) out to her car for work, she noted that the house across the street already had Christmas lights up.
I replied, “And they seemed like such nice people!”

wish you could - you could use any grins you can find without a doubt. Years like that I gather all the calendars and do a NewYears bonfire with them. The year my BIL killed himself was one of those as well as the following year with both my MIL and FIL having major health issues and me having my stroke. This year with us not knowing in March if the OW would live to see June was headed that way. But overall I can honestly be satisfied with the total of the last 12 months.

I’m the Protestant turn-coat so not really. Now my beloved nephew and Godson Big-Fiddle-Kopek -------- since he has partied with monks -------- maybe he would.

I kid you not --------- several years ago they had to move our police station from Federal Street to Brighton Road because the police were afraid to come to work. Now THAT is the benchmark I have for a tough neighborhood. :smack:

Good lord. You people are reminding me of where I grew up, an area between downtown LA and Hollywood. Gunfire, helicopters, sirens, and other assorted goodness all common. It wasn’t until I moved away to go to college that I realized just how inner city my life was. Don’t miss it.

I have been reminded that I do still have to go back to the store. We need veggies. Green bean casserole of some sort is likely. Corn for 'Beamer. Arg.

I took the big dogs to the vet today. Found out that Kona has a heart murmur. He’s my healthy one (I thought). The vet said, nothing really to be done at this point. He looks and acts healthy. He could lose a little weight. Otherwise, just keep doing what we’re doing. He’s about 10 years old. (He’s also the one that climbed the bath tub the other night. :)) The Newfie is 9, which is really getting up there for a Newfie. He’s got a clean bill of health, so far, but we’re running some blood work to check a few things. He’s still having skin problems. Given that his life’s ambition is to impersonate a rug, I’m not surprised he’s lasted. He’s very low key.

Off to chase the 'Beamer to bed. He won a “good behavior” trip to a skating rink tomorrow, if he’s well enough - his teachers nominated him. He wants to go, so he needs his rest.

The people down the road have had their lights/decorations including snow globes up since before Halloween, and they aren’t Halloween decorations.

Add sour cream to the chili.

That’s Durham(next city over). Cops lock themselves in the station at night, and don’t open the door.

PatPat! Welcome back!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Semi short day today.

Poor Higgs had to go out and squat in 29° of morning. Needless to say, she made quick work of it.

I heard on the news last night that they’re finally going to replace the Nice Bridge that crosses the Potomac from Charles county MD to King George county VA - the bridge I used to cross to work for 7 years. Back when I was still working, they were doing studies to replace it. The work was supposed to be done in 2015. Well, at least they finally approved the money. And they say it’ll be done in 2023. Waaaaaaaaay long overdue!

Today’s my short week hump day. YAY! And I’m 1 day closer to my sweetie getting home. He sounded so miserable yesterday - he called me 3 times! Poor thing. Today, he and his folks go see the lawyer about their estate, and I hope they get everything resolved.

Happy Tuesday!!
