CNN has reported that Buttigieg will be in Maine today and tomorrow.
I will also say that Pete already has a very difficult full-time job, and pushing a new Transportation Secretary through Congress is not a fight Biden needs right now.
From CNN live updates
Vice President Kamala Harris had not made a decision on her vice-presidential running mate as of Monday morning, a source familiar with the process tells CNN, as the Harris campaign is getting ready to unveil that choice in a matter of hours.
The decision is expected to be made later today, and once it is made, the vice president would inform a small team of top advisers – and of course, her chosen running mate.
While that is the general expectation on timing, sources cautioned that the decision is ultimately Harris’ to make and Harris’ alone – and if she needed more time, the final decision could slide into tomorrow.
Harris and her new running mate will appear at a joint rally together in Philadelphia tomorrow evening, before hitting a series of additional cities in battleground states the rest of the week.
Over the weekend, she interviewed in-person Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly.
Well, not so difficult and full-time that he couldn’t take a lengthy post-adoption paternity leave… ;). Or hasn’t been able to hit the campaign and media trails awfully hard.
Would it really be such a bad thing if one of his assistants/deputies were “Acting” Commissioner for the next 5 months or so?
Unfortunately, today is a bad news day with the stock market crashing and a big storm. I don’t know whether announcing today or tomorrow would be better. I am currently leaning toward Walz. He has a calming avuncular presence that Harris can use to contrast with a more aggressive tone.
So does the market tanking, with rumors of an economic nosedive in the coming weeks, change the calculus for Harris? Do you want a moderate like Shapiro to calm moderates? A progressive with labor’s support like Walz? Economically, I’m not sure what message Kelly brings.
I think the economy might become more of a talking point going forward than previously thought.
“Why weren’t you personally handing this train derailment, Secretary?”
And you can presumably work from home for some of that stuff.
A short blip in the market will be forgotten come November.
the team is to do a tour that starts in phila. savannah is scheduled for july 9th. i wonder if that will be a go, given the weather.
with the odd stories going around, i can’t imagine the questioning… have you ever shot a family pet? have you ever put a family pet on the roof of your vehicle? have you had congress with furniture? have you ever transported road kill?
FWIW, MSNBC is saying she will announce tomorrow via text message before the rally.
It is well established that military record doesn’t mean shit. Bush dodged Vietnam and defeated two men who served there. Clinton beat two veterans.
Which of Kelly or Walz
- Will score a few zingers, and
- Is least likely to embarrass the campaign?
Probably either. Walz is more outspoken, and I think that Kelley is more centrist. The other side will have to be very careful about attacking a vet who served honorably and whose wife took a bullet in the line of service.
Kelly isn’t much of a speaker. Doesn’t do much TV and isn’t known for getting in front of large crowds. I think if he’s the choice, it’s for the gravitas his resume brings and his proximity to the southern border.
Make that a stock market crash, a hurricane and an emergency meeting of the National Security Council re the latest threat by Iran. Not much room left for the talking heads to discuss a VP pick.
They will attack without breaking a sweat.
Someday, Americans will look back on the political climate of the 2020s, and think “Good times, good times.”
I was just going to say, have you been around the last 8 years?
Eight? Try 20!

I was just going to say, have you been around the last 8 years?
Hope springs eternal.

I was just going to say, have you been around the last 8 years?
I was gonna say … didn’t Trump flat-out say something like he didn’t consider McCain a war hero because he was captured and he prefers his war heroes uncaptured, or something like that? Didn’t seem to make a lick of difference to the people who elected him. This is the world we’re living in. I think he even straight-up called him a “loser.”
