It’s a new show on FX that sorta sticks it to all the shows like “Trading Spaces” and “While you were out.”
The episode I saw was two brothers were going to throw a bachelor party in 4 days and wanted their familyroom redone. The host asked them how much money they had in their wallets: one guy had $40 and the other guy had $57…so the budget for the show was $97!!!
The first day was spent going trashpicking, “curb shopping” and dumpster diving. They got mannequins from a garment district dumpster, lucite from behind a sign shop, a huge semi-crappy table/countertop that someone had out with a “free” sign on it, and a bolt of zebra fabric from a yard sale for (I think) $10. They also had stacks of junk wood from construction sites, etc.
They ended up doing the room in a Vegas theme by cutting the counter into a bar and making legs for it out of dead tree limbs from the yard, they took a salvage store table and made it into a revolving/two-sided craps/blackjack table with felts from the internet ($25), they made dice tables out of the lucite spraypainted red (and lit from inside with two junkstore lamps - $2) and he even made a stripper platform with a pole made from a trashpicked coatrack. The mannequins (Sigfried & LeRoy - one was black, heh) were made into drink dispensers (don’t ask!) The couch and walls were covered with the zebra fabric. He used the leftover money to hire a migdet Elvis bartender and an actual stripper (or someone willing to take her clothes off for little or no money…I realise there is a difference.)
IT WAS A RIOT! That is my kind of decorating show. Look for it late at night because it was a bit bawdy and, er, “manly” would be the word I suppose. (It had the little MA - mature - rating up in the corner at the beginning.) Lots of bleeping and burlyness, etc. This is the only episode I’ve seen so far, but I’ve set TiVo to catch another tonight, and I hope it’s as good.
