Have Girl Scout cookies declined in quality, or is it me?

I bought a box of Keebler Coconut Dreams a few years ago, because I was craving Samoas but it wasn’t Girl Scout Cookie season. I was a little disappointed, because while they looks pretty much the same, they didn’t taste quite the same. From what I remember the Coconut Dreams tasted more coconutty and less caramelly than Samoas, which one might expect from the name.

That’s amazing! I don’t know that I’d have the willpower to eat just one serving a week.

I would agree they don’t taste like the cookies of my childhood but I don’t mind buying a few boxes from one of the parents at work to support their girls’ troop.
I used to buy the chocolate peanut putter ones and yes, they are waxy as hell. Little Debbies are much better. Now I get the peanut butter sandwiches and the shortbreads.

Speaking of different bakeries, was anyone else here a scout in SoCal in the late 70s? Do you remember the year(s?) they switched to Pogens? Dayum, were those good. I remember they came in tubs and the ginger snaps were especially good.

“I had a year’s supply a week ago. What the hell happened?”

Threadjack: Breyer’s Thin Mints ice cream is so good, I refuse to purchase it again, because I know I will overindulge.

“Crunchy Frog” and “Spring Surprise” were already taken.

To the OP: I can’t say for sure, because I’ve always thought Girl Scout cookie were overrated to begin with. They were never very good. Acceptable, sure, but always overpriced and bested by many other brands and makes. So, they’re probably just as good as they used to be; not all that great.

There are 2 tubes per box so technically one tube is half-a-serving.

Other countries have far superior baked goods to what we have here in US. Especially the commercial brands; bakeries (at least around here) offer good things, too, and I notice they are less sweet (which I prefer), and you can taste the vanilla, chocolate, etc flavoring. Store cookies seems heavy on salt and fat and sugar…maybe a dash of choc chips or whatever, but I never think store brands are all that great. Oreos, I will make an exception for those… I have traveled, and when I return home, I am quite dissatisfied with the food, and I have learned to cook better bc I wanted to recreate the dishes I enjoyed in France and Italy. Thin mints are acceptable, but I just buy the cookies for humane reasons, to help GS fund raising goals. I am not salivating at the thought of the cookies so much as doing a good deed.
