I came here to debate the kind of shark being jumped.
Where’s the far-fetched hypothetical?
When the title of a thread includes the words “Skald” and “poll” the OP must contain at least 3 paragraphs. Please see subsection 3, paragraph 18 of the T&C’s.
Where’s the recipe?
StG
Nah. He put the recipes up front.
Some of his polls I find interesting and I participate.
Some of them I vote on but don’t participate.
Some I am totally disinterested in and ignore.
So far no one had forced me to participate.
Its about the same as ever.
A long time ago
A long time ago, but the sharks did have lasers on their heads so that was cool.
Yep this.
A downside of his polls is that they often make me hungry though.
I voted for cookie. Jumped the shark, as in beginning a downward spiral to nowheresville? Not really, because if something makes me laugh, even a little, it has value in my world. Even if it’s a rare occurance, I value it.
I’m just here for the cookie.
Zombies eat cookies?
No, they are generally interesting although I don’t like that some of them these days tend to have an obvious answer that skew heavily one way. Nobody has to read them if they don’t like them. It breaks up some of the monotony of the typical threads that lots of other people start. I see them like the MMP in MPSIMS. I have never understood the purpose or value in that and have never posted to one so I just stopped reading them when I realized that it wasn’t for me.
It isn’t possible for Skald’s polls to jump the shark, not in this universe.
I have nothing against StR, but for the past few years I have harbored an uncomfortable feeling that we are unwittingly helping him flesh out chapters and characters in a book he’s writing, so I tend to participate seldomly.
Also, I understand that his constant invocations and mentions of Athena are meant to be humorous, but I will admit that it goes right over my head.
It is more likely for a shark to jump Skald, if only for his cheesecake.
Skald’s polls are delicious You can tell he puts a lot of effort into it. This poll is … is … well, kind of pants, really. You can tell right away that it’s storebought.
I voted “what the hell” because I almost never notice who posted an OP. The only Dopers I instantly recognize are Zev Steinhardt (because of his encyclopediac knowledge of Judaism) and Eve (for knowing virtually everything about pre-WW2 pop culture).
Where’s the option for “Fonzie just drove the motorcycle into the side of the shark tank”?
The “jumped the shark” implication implies there was some level of quality and subsequent decline; Skald’s polls have always been hysterically awful. I like them, but they weren’t ever really “deep thoughts” and now they’ve become silly; they’ve been silly from the very beginning.
Kind of… pants?
