Have the writers of Adventure Time gone insane?

Maybe this thread ought to go in the pit.
Of the last dozen or so episodes of Adventure Time it seems to me at least 90% were either pointless or downright weird. I can’t help wondering if the writers are deliberately trying to get the series canceled. Either than or there trying to see what they can get away with before the boom comes down from above.
What do you think? Has Adventure Time become too weird?

The show has been far more experimental and weird since the first season or two, but I think that is just the writers getting more secure. It has been weird for a few years now.

The recent season opener was a fairly easy to follow scifi type adventure, the latest episode Food Chain was intentionally weird because it was a guest episode done by a famous animator.

I always think it’s weird when the Adventure Time Facebook page posts stuff about on-going story lines and their continuation in the next episode. I’m like “What? There are story lines?”

They do do weird shit but so does everyone else on the channel. And people still watch and people like it and it’s fun.

And yeah that last episode wasn’t even by the writers

I would say that Adventure Time was always a little insane.

Sad Face was pretty out there, but the Finn episodes have been great and clearly about Finn’s maturation, IMO.

As opposed to the 85% of episodes that were pointless or downright weird in previous seasons :D?

I’m not a regular watcher, but do catch them casually and I’m having a hard time imaging how much weirder it could get than it already was.

I didn’t realize the show was a series.

Seriously, it has a story arc? I know there are recurring characters. but where is this thing going? Or is it going somewhere?

I watch it occasionaly, but not every episode. I find it funny that the rainbow unicorn is speaking Korean. Or at least it sounds like Korean, the snippets I’ve heard.

Yes, Lady Rainicorn speaks Korean.

We’re in Season 6 now. I have no idea where it’s going, but you’re missing out!

At what age do kids watch adventure time in the US, generally speaking? We get it here in the UK (prob a few seasons behind) and my 3 and 6 yo’s watch it every morning. They like it but a lot of the content is miles beyond them, ISTM - seems like the show could span a wide age range (pretty sure our 3yo daughter doesn’t get any of the themes really, beyond liking princesses as a general principle).

DirecTV’s program guide lists Adventure Time as acceptable for kids 10+.

The show’s themes have definitely matured as the voice actor for Finn (Jeremy Shada) has matured. It’s easy to see how a variety of ages could be entertained by the show, whether they’re watching because of the cute characters or the plot points. As a big example, the show’s post-nuclear apocalypse setting wasn’t directly confirmed in the show for several seasons; older viewers could easily put two and two together by observing the ruins of modern life that kept popping up with the repeated references to “The Mushroom War”. The later seasons have gotten darker and more emotional though, especially the history between Marcy and Simon. And the writers are definitely allowing Finn to grow up – but I think they’re doing it in a way that is relatable to older viewers without raising too many questions with a younger audience (like Finn’s dream about Flame Princess setting his pants on fire – silly to younger kids, but loaded with innuendo for adults).
