This may be embarassing to admit, but…I am ALL about Adventure Time!
About a year ago I was flipping through channels and saw an episode of Adventure time on Catroon Network. It was the ‘tree trunks’ episode. Later, I saw an episode on youtube and got weirdly addicted.
Tonight they had a gender-swap episode (starring Neil Patrick Harris! ) , I know I’m too old for this weirdness, but I couldn’t resist!
In case you dont know what the hell I’m talking about, Adventure time is a show on Cartoon Network that has a lot of D&D references and weirdly adult humor for a kids show. I saw one episode and got hooked! Its hilarious and creepy at the same time.
Dood. Adventure Time is one of my favorite toons on TV right now (and I’m 38). I think I love it more than my kids, and they absolutely are enthralled with it.
The creepy part is, it could fit in with many of the weed-inspired awesomeness found on Adult Swim. The creator and writers have to be getting mega-stoned when they write that shit. But it’s gooood shit.
If you’ve only seen the one (and that was a good one), do yourself a favor and see them all… they’re all consistently weird, hilarious, original and good.
And, btw, the guy who voices Sponge Bob (Tom Kenny) does the voice for the Ice King.
Definitely weird, and if anything, I find it slightly amusing. For me, the runner up would be The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. But after three seasons, I think it’s been cancelled.
Flapjack was one of the creepiest kids shows in a while. It was also wonderful in how it mixed animation with claymation and very occasional live-action.
Peppermint Larry is one of the creepiest kids’ show characters of all time. He riffs on Ed Gein in ways I hope most of the (ostensible) target audience didn’t understand when they were watching it.
Overall, the show reminded of Maakies more than the abortive Maakies adult swim cartoon ever managed to.
Back to the OP’s topic, yes, I also enjoy the occasional Adventure Time episode, not least when I swear I saw a bottle-obsessed penguin humping the head of a frozen Jake. This episode, to be specific.Evidence
Chowder was good as well, but it kind of pales in comparison. Probably because it was actually targeted to its target audience.
I found Chowder meh, but not nearly as bad as Regular Show, which is the bane of my existence. I hate it so, so much, which is odd because everybody else on the interwebz seems to love it and think it’s so adult. To me it seems like they gave a show to some 13 year old douchebags and told them “make a show about what you think it’s like to be an adult.” I get that it’s (probably) supposed to be a bit of an affectionate parody of those cartoons about lower-class adults with dead-end jobs and no education, but the way it’s executed is just coated in extreme jerkassery to the level of which even Family Guy can only aspire to achieve. Also, I hate all shows that may have gotten Symbionic Titan off the air.
What’s this thread about again?
Oh, right, Adventure Time. Awesome show.
Edit: But as far as cartoons go, nothing beats Friendship is Magic, at least it’s on a different network and merchandise driven so there’s less of an incentive to murder it to get ad revenue.
My 11- and 8-year-old sons really like Adventure Time, and I wanna too, but I just don’t. Just too offbeat and weird, and not in a good way. Whenever I see it I’m more “WTF?” than “Ooo, that’s cool,” so I’ll leave it to them.
