Have You Ever...?

I’m dropping out-far too many “no” answers to make this thread interesting.

I’ll stick with it, but I agree there are too many flat “nos.”

Perhaps we ought to expand the OP to include people you know who have. Like a “No, but” response. For example, in response to the “Have you ever hitchhiked over 200 miles” question, I could reply, “No, but my Dad hitchhiked between Toronto and Vancouver a few times when he was young.” And believe you me, Dad had some great stories about those journeys.

Let’s continue with “HYE run farther than 10 miles (16 kilometers)?”

I’ll give it one more shot.
Forty times around the school track when I was in high school on a dare…and I couldn’t even roll out of bed the next day, it hurt so much.

HYE hitchhiked over 200 miles in one trip?

I hitched a lot in my teens, and looking at maps now I guess I had a 200 mile round trip to Erie and back. I also have a buddy who, circa 1990, hitchhiked from California to Pennsylvania with a dog.

HYE lived in a tent for a week?

Yes, many times, at Scout summer camp, two National Scout Jamborees, Philmont Scout Ranch and the Northern Wisconsin National Canoe Base.

HYE lived a tent for more than 3 days since turning 18?

A month and a half in a tent when I was homeless.

HYE driven more than 50 miles in the wrong direction?

Yes. Somehow we got the wrong exit from Wisconsin through Illinois and ended up in Indiana. I suspect it was more than 50miles.
HYE been seriously, really lost in the wilderness?

No. I have no sense of direction, and only go into the wilderness with a group of people and I stay close. I have been seriously lost in my hometown, however.

Ever have to take a snow day off from work?

Yes. Actually, three snow days.

Back in January, 1999, Toronto had two back-to-back snowstorms. We probably got four feet of snow in a couple of days. Given that I had an hour-long drive to work in good traffic and good weather, and the news was telling people that if they didn’t absolutely have to to go out, they shouldn’t; there was no way I was going to get to work. I called into work, and according to the receptionist, I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t make it in. They basically shut the place down for the next few days.

Have you ever suffered through a power failure that lasted 24 hours or more?

Yes, once when I lived on Long Island, my power was off for ten days.

Ever been in snow over 3 ft. deep?

Yes, as a resident of Michigan I have on several occasions. Typically following blizzards
Have you ever stood on the very spot where some historic figure once stood?

Yes. I stood at the podium in the White House briefing room. (got a great photo of my daughter there too) It was during a private tour of the West Wing by a WH staffer. Clinton administration.

I walked around Versailles, so I probably stood at or near a place Louis XIV stood.

Probably other places, but nothing comes to mind.

Have you ever heard the breathing of a whale in the wild?

Yes-small touring boat on the Oregon coast.

HYE lost it over the side of a boat while at sea?

Nope. Never get motion sickness.

Have you ever owned 2 or more cars for your individual use?

Yes. I own two cars right now. Looking to get rid of one of them, though.

As for losing it at sea, I remember when my buddy and I (experienced with sailboats) invited a non-sailor friend for a ride. Our friend was doing okay for a while–then, he suddenly said, “Oh, shi-” but before he could finish the word, he was heaving over the side. We cut our sailing short that day, and never invited him to go sailing again.

On we go: Have you ever learned how to sail?

Yep, I’ve crewed on a friend’s Hobie many times. I impressed my gf on one of our first dates when we drove to a lake and rented a sailboat. The rental people were short handed, and asked us to be patient until someone was free to rig our boat. I told her I could handle it, and did.

As far as being sick over the side, we went out on a small fishing charter once. Me, my gf, a guy from New York, and a guy from Italy. Ten minutes after leaving shore the Italian dude ran to the head to vomit and stayed down there the entire 4 hour excursion.

HYE celebrated Mardi Gras?

Kinda sorta. We learned about it in Sunday school, and our elementary school class had a party of some sort. Not quite what you’d get in New Orleans, but we were only ten years old.

Have you ever worn a wig?

Yes, on stage. And maybe at Halloween once or twice. Either way a few years ago. I have really long hair now. I’m sitting on it most of the time. I’m thinking possibly, maybe of cutting a foot or 18in off and donating it. IDK. It’s a hard thing. It’s kinda like an old friend. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve had it cut. But just think of the wigs it could make.
HYE marched in a parade?

I either march in the Pride Parade or take tickets at the festival every year.

HYE eaten something at a carnival/fair that you have never eaten anywhere else?

Yes. Back when I was married, my wife and I attended the Calgary Stampede. It’s basically a fair, with a rodeo attached. Anyway, she wanted a funnel cake. We got one, and it was nice, but I’ve never had one before or since.

Have you ever attended a fair, and not gone on any rides?
