Have you seen us? A thread for missing children

I’ve been at the SDMB for over a year now, and I’ve been able to use it to further my own goals and life several times. I’ve also been able to help dopers with it. I’m confident the same can be said of many of you.

This thread is dedicated to helping those who . . . well, who are missing.

Many of you, I imagine, get those mailings with “Have you seen us?” accompanied by a photo, sometimes age-enhanced, of a child and sometimes the adult with whom she or he was last seen. For all I know you all get them. But I think it’s time to use the great resources the SDMB has:

  1. membership
  2. loyal and caring membership
  3. Free bandwidth
  4. a kind heart

to help those who are missing.

I don’t have statistics on how many children go missing every minute or day or whatnot. This mailout says that over 105 children featured have been safely recovered. I cannot begin to express the pride I’m sure we would all have if this thread managed to find one of those kids. Maybe it won’t. But it’s sure as hell worth a shot.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Type in the info of the people on that mailout:

Name: Blake Hoeft
DOB: 8/3/1987 Age: 13
Height: 3’6" (at age 6) wt: 40 lbs (at age 6)
Hair: Blonde Eyes: Hazel
Sex: Female Date Missing: 12/19/1993
From: Hermosa Beach, CA

Last Seen With: Deborah Hart
DOB: 3/27/1956 Age: 45
Height: 5’5" Weight: 120 lbs.
Hair: Blonde Eyes: Blue
Sex: Female Date Missing: 12/19/1993
From: Hermosa Beach, CA

  1. Type out the contact info:

CALL 1-800-THE-LOST (or 1-800-843-5678)
TDD# 1-800-826-7653
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children http://www.missingkids.com

  1. Scan or somehow get online the pictures of those on the mailout (if you can). Include a link.

The central page of this effort, though primitive, is here. In addition, check out the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children here.

If there’s anyone who wants to email me with the image of a child featured on one of those mailouts, please email it to ncmecmissingkids@netscape.net and I’ll put it up as soon as I can.

Here’s wishing this thread and all the kids good luck.

Here’s one who’s been missing for quite a while now. He’s from Central Illinois, but he’s been gone so long, who knows where he could be by now. . .
Anyway, all the relavant information can be found at http://www.findryan.com

P.S. Good idea. It would be amazing if we could actually help find some of these kids.

Hi, I was doing a search for my Cousin Blake a few years ago and came across this board. I wanted to let you all know that she has been found after 17 years missing!

She contacted us through facebook in 2010. She had been living in Costa Rica since the abduction.

I hope that this post provides hope for everyone who is still missing a loved one. If you would like to reach out to me, trhoeft81@yahoo.com

Wow, wonderful to hear that she’s been found alive and safe.

Thanks for letting us know, thoeft, but I’m going to go ahead and lock this thread. If anyone wants to revisit missing people issues, please feel free to start a new thread.
