Having some issues with the board lately

Just an(other) FYI to the admins, been having some major issues authenticating to the board and just doing basic stuff. I’m on the road atm, but it’s the same issue I was having at home a few weeks ago when this came up in another thread. Takes me several attempts to log in, took me like 6 tries to get into my User CP to renew my subscription, takes several tries to load a user page…all the while other web sites are loading fine, I’m able to stream video from things like YouTube with no issues, etc. It could be a peering issue between your ISP and one of the major carriers out here in the south west I suppose, but there is definitely something going on and just wanted you guys to be aware of it.

I had the same problem just now.

I went to Straight Dope Message Board - Your direct line to thousands of the smartest, hippest people on the planet, plus a few total dipsticks. and entered my username and password in the top-right corner. I got the “Thanks for logging in” page, then was redirected to the main page (Straight Dope Message Board - Your direct line to thousands of the smartest, hippest people on the planet, plus a few total dipsticks.) where I again saw the area to log in and the blue strip with the few links for guests rather than all of the features for logged-in users.

I logged in a second time, and the same experience/results as the third.

I logged in a third time, and it worked properly.

I’m using Firefox 18.0.2 for Mac OS 10.7. I’m using the default settings for javascript, caching, cookies, etc. I have Ad Block Plus installed, but disabled for the SDMB.

Let me know if you need any more info.

I have problems logging in too. Usually takes the board 3 times to finally log me in. Same issues as StephenG.

That’s perfectly normal. The mods always use the 3-times-to-loggin as the step immediately before banning posters. :wink:

And between the time I (finally) get logged in and the time I go to the first forum, the board forgets that I had logged in in the first place. If I go back to the main page, I’m logged in; if I go forward to the forum page, I’m not.

Searches seem to be taking a lot longer to complete in recent days. Today, they’ve all been failing for me.

I started a thread about this about a month ago, at which time TubaDiva guessed that my browser was going crazy.

Now we know! It’s not just me!

I’m surprised you can log on to the Dope at all from an ATM. Maybe it would help if you learned Braille.
