He Hate Me Fantasy Football 2024 - Year 22

I think I have a very very slim chance of making the playoffs still. My team has been #2 in points two weeks in a row. Losing week 5 by less than a point is really hurting now.

After starting 1-4, I’m one game out of the playoffs right now. I need a win and one of two teams to lose (and also not have Hamlet outscore me by 10).

Kyler Murray is doing his level best to take away my first round bye by throwing to everyone except my two receivers (including to the Seahawks).

Where we stand as of Monday midday for the playoffs:

@SenorBeef is locked in as the #1 seed, even if he loses to @Omniscient which seems likely.
@Really_Not_All_That_Bright should be the #2, unless @Munch picks up a kicker who explodes for about 20 points tonight.
@motu and I are #3 and #4.
Weirddave and Munch both lost (or are extremely likely to) and drop to 7-7. @AlsoNamedBort won to get to 7-7. He’ll be the #5 seed with the most points of that group.
@Hamlet is favored to win to get to 7-7; if he does, he’ll get the #6 feed. If he loses, Weirddave should get it.

Feel free to check my work…

I was dead last and had pretty much given up on this season. What a turnaround.

Imagine getting a 55 point game from Josh Allen and still losing.

I’m ready for baseball!

My top 2 RBs go out for the game, and I get crap from my secondary options. I’m also ready for baseball season - except that I have Juan Soto in my AMERICAN League only keeper league! Thanks a lot, Cohen!

Normally I’d be butthurt about losing with the second highest score of the week (and a pretty high score for this league) but having locked up the #1 seed I let my team have a rest and took the week off.

This is a table sorted by regular season points scored. At the end is a luck factor which compares how you ranked in scoring versus how you officially finished. If you got a high score and a lower ranked finish, you get a negative luck factor. If you got a lower score but a higher finish, you get a positive luck factor. As you can see, by getting 2nd in points but finishing near the bottom of the league Omni had a ridiculously bad run of H2H luck.

I forgot to set my lineup one week. That cost me a playoff spot. I lost to Hamlet that week and would have bumped him out of the playoff. Also could have had me within spitting distance of the most points scored. You’re welcome.

Other than Omni’s (admittedly terrible) luck, the other weird thing about the final standings is how middle-heavy they are. There are only four teams with winning records, and one of those (Wilson) is only one game above .500. Conversely, there are six teams with losing records but only one is more than 2 games below .500.

Frankly, if you told me I’d be 11-3 and have the second seed after I lost my #1 and #2 receivers (Godwin and Aiyuk) in Week 7, I would have been thrilled. I was 5-2 at that point and I only lost one more game (to Beef) the following week. I also lost Jameson Williams for that week to a suspension and the only active WR on my roster who I had actually drafted was Gabe Davis, who didn’t even see a target.

I had very good injury luck this year, just losing Mixon and Daniels for a few weeks each. My RB picks were good - Mixon, Pollard and Dowdle all were OK value or better for their draft position; and CMC’s injury meant Jordan Mason helped me win two games early in the year.

Daniels and Tua performed well for me also.

But boy, did my WR picks suck. Jefferson in the first was fine and met expectations, but the rest of them did not. Waddle in the third? Amari Cooper in the fourth??? Mike Williams and Brandin Cooks in the 10th and 11th? Yikes.

I wonder if there is a fantasy football hosting site that would allow for a round-robin format, where you get wins and losses each week based on how many teams you beat (I.e. top scorer for the week goes 13-0, second highest goes 12-1, …, lowest goes 0-13). It would be the middle ground between what we have now and going strictly to a points league.

Also, we should remove the Kicker position next year. It remains a horrible luck-based element that is compounded by such a deep league.

There are sites that do an all-against-all scoring system, yes. I think sleeper and MFL (myfantasyleague) are the more advanced sites that are popular now. I’ve thought about proposing them for my leagues - probably dynasty as the dedication level there is pretty high - but it’s always a pain to get people to try something new when the existing thing works well enough.

I like H2H, but one option I’ve seen other leagues do is make the last playoff seed a “wild-card” spot that goes to the remaining team with the highest points scored regardless of record.

I like that!

Me too.

Can we make that retroactive, lol.

This may be silly but I am a bit miffed that I scored 150 points with Jordan Addison still to play. That’s a monster score in this league and it deserved to obliterate someone. On the other hand, RNATB desperately needed that bye as he put up 52 points with one player to play and would’ve lost to any other team in the playoffs without it.

Edit: In fact I just looked it up and it’s by far the highest score this season, with the second being 139.

Well yeah, but I wouldn’t have started the players I did (or made the waiver moves I did) if I needed to score points this week. I’m still desperately scrambling to make up for the loss of Godwin and Aiyuk.
