He Hate Me FF Keeper League – Year 12

Well, I’d like to keep Kendall Wright in the 10th instead of Josh Gordon. Thanks for that flexibility.

Um…Sanders was drafted in the 9th by HungryHungryHauruspex, and ended up on Hamlet’s final roster.

Bennett is not keeper eligible, as Dave dropped him during the season and you picked him up.

The last couple of years I’ve been hosting whoever wants to come in a voice chat program during the draft so we could chat. It’s free and easy to set up. If you don’t have a headset, you can sign in just to listen to keep up with the conversation, and I think there are iOS and Android versions, so you can use it on your phone or tablet.

You can download it here (or your phone’s app store). Run through the setup wizard. Set a push to talk key even if you don’t have a mic (some people have a weird glitch the first time they log in where they have to hit the transmit button once before they can hear everyone else).

Press the connect button, click add new, and then use the following information. Remove the asterisks from the address name, I’m just putting those there in case of random web crawlers come across the info.

Label: SDMB (or whatever you want)
Address: Silverbolt.blue***fangsolutions.com

PM me if you have any trouble, I’ll try to be there at least 45 minutes before the draft to help people get it all set up. I do recommend trying it - I think last year we got about half to 2/3rds of the league in there and it keeps the draft more interesting.

Oops! I see the problem. I accidentally looked up my team from 2012, not 2013. Sorry for the confusion.

Blech, I think my only potential keeper this year who I could get at better than Average Draft Position would be Seattle’s DEF. I think I’ll just pass. No keepers.

ETA: Not that I can complain. I missed the draft last year and Yahoo auto-picked an awesome team for me (Peyton, McCoy, etc.). I felt pretty bad about it all season.

Auto-picked, huh? I’d have a hard time calling myself a champion. But maybe that just how I was raised.

There is no link at “here”, so I don’t know what to download. I don’t want to miss out on breathing heavily in your ears for a couple hours.

Well fuck. No one else caught this, until I saw RNATB’s post about “I pick last in the 2nd round”, and he was at the top of Round 2 as I was assigning keepers. Back to the drawing board…

Woops. I just copy/pasted the text, not the underlying source.

mumble download

I’m confused. Are you using a draft order that doesn’t factor in the consolation bracket getting 1-4? The draft order in the OP is correct, I think.

Edit: Oh, and not in reverse order of standings.

Apparently I wasn’t. It’s all fixed now. Current draft picture. Anyone want to check my math?

I think he means he forgot to snake the even rounds.

My draft is correct.

No, it was just a copy/paste issue that I screwed up.

Do you want to declare a third keeper in place of Bennett?

I think Alfred Morris should be kept with my second pick in the eighth, not the first. I can’t think of a reason it would be the first. I declared keepers before acquiring the second pick, so his status shouldn’t change.

Otherwise, everything is good for me.

I think keepers should be kept with your natural pick, and it sounds like that’s your second pick, so I agree it should stay with that one.

Done - thanks for the catch.

Jesus fucking Christ, I hate my team.

Wrong draft to get drunk before, and then continue drinking during.

Analysis time!

I don’t have time to do the exhaustive analyses I used to, so this year it’ll basically just be likes/dislikes and a grade. However, since this is my team, I can go into a bit more depth.

I took AP first overall for two reasons: first, reliability. I never gamble with a first round pick because you must have guaranteed production on an FF roster somewhere. AP is among the top three backs on a per-game basis every single year. He’s not free of injury concerns, but he plays through minor injuries. He is absolutely free of performance concerns, which is something more within my control; he has produced all-time numbers consistently despite nonexistent passing games, so it’s not a worry if Bridgewater takes over at QB. Second, LeSean McCoy may be going first elsewhere, but he’s not for me. He doesn’t have AP’s track record, he is more injury-prone (or at least looks like it), and could suck if Foles goes down.

I’m not sure what to say about Bernard. I loved him in last year’s drafts but I couldn’t give him a second round grade when he’s never been a full time ballcarrier. That said, he is going in the middle of the second round on average and I had the last pick in the round. According to FFToolbox the guy being drafted with my pick in 14-teamers is Zac Stacy, who I have less interest in than syphilis. Andre Ellington would theoretically have been there too, but he has the same concerns as Bernard and in any event Dave massively reached for him in the first. So yeah, this keeper was basically a mathematical decision.

Fitz and Colston are… well, what they are. They’ll both give me ~1000 yards and ~8 touchdowns. And that’s fine. My running backs are great so all I had to do with my wideouts was not screw up too bad.

I am oddly internally divided on Foles. I had Matt Ryan in a lot of leagues last year including this one, and accordingly ended up with Foles (off waivers) in all of them because Ryan sucked. He was fantastic; he had an all-time season in only nine games. I don’t worry too much about the loss of D-Jax; he wasn’t very good at running anything except slants and go routes, and Maclin is just fine at that. I am a little worried about regression to the mean, but not nearly to the extent the talking heads are predicting. I am most worried about defenses having figured out the Chip Kelly offense during the offseason, and what it could mean for this team’s overall production. Certainly nobody on this offense (McCoy included) is good enough to explain why they were so good as a group.

Tannehill has been much better than I ever thought he’d be coming out of college. This is basically only his fourth year playing QB so he has plenty of potential improving to do. Foles was matchup-proof last year so I really don’t need more than a bye week fill-in.I had hoped for Dalton as my QB2 but he went immediately after I took Sproles and thus was long gone by my next pick.

Dennis Pitta. He’s a tight end, apparently. I vaguely remember him being productive in 2012 before a big injury. In reviewing the pick now, it looks like I overpaid a little. Omni got Martellus Bennett more than three rounds later and I would have been just as happy with him. Zach Ertz nearly fell to this spot and I was targeting him, so I might just have been in a tight end frame of mind. Probably should have spent this pick on an RB with keeper potential like James White or Andre Williams. Rotoworld sees Pitta as a breakout candidate because Gary Kubiak likes to feature TEs. However, as a longtime Owen Daniels owner I can tell you that means featuring lots of TEs, and it’s rare that any one of them puts up huge individual numbers. Daniels was having an all-time season in 2009 before a serious injury and I’ve been chasing that 8-game sample ever since.

I did get Bernard Pierce one pick later (and I took Pitta first of the two because of the keeper value) and he probably has a better than even chance of being the Raven’s full time starter by 2015. He’ll start the first two games of this season, and probably have flex value going forward. I also have Darren Sproles and James Starks, giving me the best RB depth in the league (as usual). Storm Johnson is a sneaky long-term prospect who I expect will own a piece of the Jags’ RB job by the end of this season. Toby Gerhardt is a tall drink of water and not really worth the contract he got in free agency. A bigger issue is whether Johnson can take the #2 job from Denard Robinson, who looked scary fast in the preseason. That, and whether the Jags’ offensive line has improved enough to make their backs worth owning.

Reuben Randle was my second keeper, and this is the second time I’m keeping him. With Nicks gone the Giants need a red zone threat and he’s by far their biggest WR. He’s a perennial breakout candidate and the price (last pick of the eighth) is fine. Sanu could be a #2 fantasy wideout by the end of the season; he’s been the Bengals’ camp star and will start. They have some injuries at WR so he should get plenty of looks. James Jones is a proven producer and somebody has to catch passes in Oakland. They were able to support two 900-yard guys last year so he’ll surely be a top end WR5.

Hauschka was my kicker in almost every league last year. Plays for a good-not-great offense and is super accurate. He’ll do. I’m really high on Houston’s defense. They’re reliably excellent, presumably won’t be hurt by as many pick-sixes this season and Clowney has looked beastly in the preseason. They also get to play in the AFC South, which is reliably crappy these days. Best of all, they get Oakland in Week 2 and the Giants in Week 3.

So that’s my team. Except for AP, it’s not elite anywhere, but that’s to be expected when you pick first overall. I didn’t really land a bargain anywhere, although I suppose Sproles could produce big numbers in the Kelly offense. I like more or less everything about my draft except the Pitta selection. He’ll be a viable #1 TE, but I could have taken a guy with equal value much later. My only other complaint is the lack of upside at wide receiver. There is basically zero chance that any of my WRs posts significantly more than a thousand yards unless Fitzgerald remembers he’s Larry Fitzgerald. There is some keeper potential here, and that helps. Overall, I’m giving myself a B-.
