He Hate Me FF keeper league

Mundi’s Morning Blues and NOLA Sex Panthers have made the following trade:

Mundi gives: Chester Taylor + 15.2 (198) + 16.1 (211)
BabaBooey gives: 3.4 (32) + 14.11 (193)

This trade is contingent on Taylor staying relatively healthy until the trade deadline.

As commissioner I’m instituting a requirement on all trades that an equal number of picks need to change hands. Duing the draft, everyone must have exactly 16 picks. (Thus the crappy late rounders included in this trade.)

Where’s Chester Taylor going as a keeper for that trade?

Same as he would either way; in the 7th. During the offseason, you can trade away rights to keepers, but the keepers themselves remain attached to whatever round they’re attached to.

It doesn’t matter which pick in a round is used to keep a guy, as became clear when it was decided that if you want to keep two guys in the same round, you could and should acquire a second pick in that round. (Lest you pay a premium by keeping one a round higher.)

To be clear for everyone, that means that if you’re keeping a player in a given round and your draft pick in that round is a high one, you’ve got free money to work with. You can trade it down for a low pick in the same round and pocket the change.

As an example, I used to have the #2 pick in the 7th, but since I’m keeping Eli, I traded it down for the last pick in the 7th. Found money is the best kind.

Omni, I just sent you yet another email. (Suggs failed his physical for the Jets. Booooooo.)

I know I already announced that I was keeping Stephen Jackson, but, since Koren Robinson has been so good as to speed, drive drunk, and be an all around idiot, I’m toying with the idea of keeping Troy Williamson too. Is it too late?

It’s never too late to ask; I want to balance the rules about not changing keepers with the desire to not overly penalize early declaration. Your situation is simplified by not having used all three of your slots, so that’s a bonus. Adding an additional keeper before the deadline seems mostly harmless on first glance, but I’m not sure I’ve thought it through.

Feedback from the group on the idea in general is strongly encouraged. Including yours.

In your specific case, was Koren Robinson going to be a starter this year? Burleson was traded to Seattle for Hutchinson, IIRC, so who was pencilled in to take over his starting job? Any Vikings fans in the house?

I have no problem with Hamlet taking another keeper. I doubt anyone else will either.

Check your emails folks, a few of you have trade offers in waiting. Lemme know if you’re game.

Mundis Morning Glory and Rhinosaurs(neuroman) have made the following trade:

Mundi gives: 4.1 (43) + 5.14 (70) + 12.1 (155)
neuro gives: 4.12 (54) + 5.3 (59) + 10.12 (138)

Ellis, there’s an accepted trade in your email. Will you be sending out a sheet with all the trades updated before the draft, plus keepers? Secondly, how are we going to manage the traded pick during the draft. Have the trade partners doing a chat and selecting picks for one another or what?

Yes, this especially interests me since I’ve traded something like 5 picks.

The simplest thing might be if parties who’ve exchanged picks can be on IM with each other.

Alternatively: does anyone have any experience with IRC chat? We could set up a channel, like #sdmbfantasy, that we could all join and chat in. This could be useful for official communiques, like “NEUROMAN TO MUNDI: draft Rod Smart with your next pick.” If no one knows how to do this, I could look into it.

This would work, but I think just using AIM would present less opportunity for confusion. Just my 2 cents.

PS - Neuroman, you’ve got an email waiting for you.

Gone Pear Shaped and (Munch) have made the following trade:

Omni gives: 2.2 (16) + 3.13 (41) + 5.13 (69)
Munch gives: 2.14 (28) + 3.1 (29) + 5.1 (57)

No separate chat will be necessary. The plan is to confine the draft to yahoo’s online draft chat room. I will be sending out materials prior to the draft with the request that everyone print them out for easy reference. The plan is to make it a single page – customized for each owner – detailing all keepers to be avoided and also all your picks. (Yours, yours selected by others, and others selected by you.)

I’ll be tracking each selection in realtime during the draft, so I’ll need a 5 second waiting period after every pick. If the next pick was traded, then within that 5 seconds I’ll post a notification to the group as to who owns it. At that point, the owner calls out who he wants, and the selector picks that guy for him. Other notifications will be if traded picks are coming up, a section of traded picks has passed, and also if any trades have gone through. (Trading during the live draft is perfectly acceptable.)

Here’s some sample messages you can expect to see during the live draft:

Immediately after the following picks are made, I’ll post:
1-13: *** Traded pick(s) coming up. (Pear Shape)
2-01: *** Pear Shape, your pick belongs to Munch.
2-02: *** All clear for 11 picks.

These messages are auto-generated and stuffed to the clipboard by a little utility I wrote last Sunday. The *** prefix is to signify official drafting instructions. “All clear for # picks” is saying that there are no traded picks to worry about during that span.

Some thoughts:

Because we are trading draft picks, the normal “bathroom” breaks will be fewer and farther between. Just because you aren’t on the yahoo clock for another 14 picks doesn’t mean you won’t be needed prior to then. Before leaving the computer, check your sheet to make sure you don’t have any traded picks coming up. I won’t have any way to quickly tell how long you have before you’re needed, so asking me likely won’t help much. (I’ll be busy logging selections and talking smack.)

Because I’ll be logging each pick, please try to give me 5 seconds or so before adding anything to the chat room after a pick is announced. I recall from last year how difficult it was to scroll back and see the last pick made during an energetic conversation.

If I should need to slow things down for whatever reason, (I logged the wrong guy, have to use the bathroom, whatever,) I’ll ask to slow things down. This means that whomever is on the clock should let their timer get down to 15-20 seconds before making their pick. (Or whatever you feel is comfortably reasonable; just not rapid fire.)

Incidentally, the little utility I wrote also generates a list of the final (corrected) rosters after the draft, formatted for the messageboard. That means that I should be able to make the necessary roster swaps from trades and fuckups and post the final rosters to the thread within an hour after the live draft ends.

Since I’m using a database, team name changes won’t really affect me too much, but will conflict with the print materials I send out, so keep that in mind.

Incidentally, I’d like to declare Roy Williams as my 5th round keeper (the sole reason for this trade.)

Omni: are you sure you’ve got the right guy? My email had nothing in it…

Damn, tonight has been hoppin’. Emails aplenty.

So noted. If you want to add another keeper later, that’s fine up until the deadline.

That goes for you too, Hamlet, and anybody else who declared early. (Except me, since I already used all three.) You can add keepers up until the 29th if you still have unused slots.

Yeah, I sent it to that spamgourmet address and it never got bounced back so I assume it’s you. If you’ve got another email addy please email me so I can reply to that one.

Omni-new email sent to your SDMB profile email.

Received and replied. Let me know if you’re interested.

All this talk of trading picks and value charts and everything has been way over my head (well, mainly cause I have sucky keepers).

But I think I may have missed the deadline to declare mine? I hope not, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

If I’m not too late, I’d like to keep two - J. Delhomme (8th last / 6th this) and P. Rivers (16th last / 14 this).

Eh, I see I’m not too late. Should have looked at the league page. I thought the draft was the 29th, not the deadline for declaring keepers!

Are the eligible players from post #2 listed when they were taken last year or what they will cost this year? For example, my list is as follows:

  1. Baltimore Weirdos (Weirddave)
WR J. Porter (5th round pick)
RB R. Droughns (4th round pick)
RB S. Davis (9th round pick)
TE A. Gates (10th round pick) - kept last year
W/R L. Johnson (9th rounder, trade from BoomGoesTheDynamite) - kept last year
BN K. Collins (4th rounder, trade from BoomGoesTheDynamite)
BN D. Givens (8th round pick)
    K M. Stover (11th round pick)
    DEF Baltimore (7th round pick)

If I decide to keep, say, Stover, Givens and Davis, would that be my 11th, 8th and 9th round pick this year, or would it me my 9th, 6th and 7th?
Also, has anyone thought of using a program like Ventrillo or Teamspeak while the draft is going on so we can talk to each other? Teamspeak is free, but if you want to use Vent, my World of Warcraft guild has a Vent server that we could use for the period of time during the draft. Thoughts?
