Sorry for the spam, everyone, but the draft for my league is tomorrow night (8 Eastern, Yahoo) and we’ve still got three spots. This was conceived and advertised as a league for readers (and one writer) of Football Outsiders, so you should have at least a passing familiarity with their work if you’d like to join. If you want to join but you don’t know anything about FO, then feel free to spend 20 minutes getting acquainted with their (frankly excellent) work.
Anyway, this is basically the same stat-head league I ran last year. The idea is that the scoring starts with a standard baseline: 25/10/10 yards per point, .5 points per reception. It’s been tweaked in such a way that having above average Yards per Carry, Yards per Reception, Yards per Attempt, and Comp% will give a player bonus points, while being below average in those categories will result in penalties. Being exactly at league-average in those categories will result in a player producing the same number of fantasy points as in a regular scoring league.
There a few other scoring quirks. QBs are penalized for sacks, since they are more responsible for their sack rate than most people realize (and also since fantasy-worth QBs tend to get bonus points in this system, and passing TDs are worth 6 points). All fumbles are penalized equally (as one-half of an interception), since fumble recovery is completely random. Points for Field Goals are set so that all field goal attempts (without accounting for missed FG penalties) have an expected value of 3 points.
I’ll be up late tonight making minor adjustments to the scoring, so feel free to make suggestions (settings are below). Hope to see you there.

Little help requested, anyone have a spreadsheet or a website that lists every eligible player and their team/position? I’m trying to save myself a little leg work as I assemble my cheatsheet.
You already have one if you have MS Access. The *.lgu files (“He Hate Me More.lgu”) are Access databases. Right-click it, choose “Open With” and pick Access.
The Player table (tblPlayer) has all 900 players’ names, positions, teams, bye weeks, and even their yahoo rankings as of a few days ago. (Whatever day it was I sent it out.)
If you don’t have Access, email me and I’ll send it to you in spreadsheet form.
Yeah, that’s a sloppy mistake by me. Email is better for bug reports. Also, anyone interested in getting updates as I add new features should email me.
Ellis, the silence is making me very very nervous. Lets hear what kind of issue you’re having, perhaps one of us have experienced it in the past.
On a different note, would any of you guys be interested in doing a SDMB Money League next season? I assume we’ll still keep this league going as it is, but I’d like to know if there’s any interest in doing a second league for maybe $20 or something. There always seems to be a couple secondary league cropping up for the overflow crowd, so I think there’ll be enough demand.
I’m a tad nervous. Maybe he took one last trip to Tijuana before the draft and had a run in with a bad bottle of tequila and a violent pimp named Paco.
I’d be all for it. Like any true hustler, I’ve thrown the last two seasons to set the stage for domination in the future. I just hope I don’t blow it and win this year.
So I suffered through another 45 minute java download last night. It appears to have done the trick, because I was able to participate in furt’s live draft.
The utility worked fine. I’m going to change it a bit so that it stuffs the clipboard messages earlier. Instead of logging the last pick and then pasting the notification, I’ll paste instructions for the current pick immediately after the previous selection is made. That way there’s no delay as I scroll through a list of Johnsons or Williams. I still ask for a 5 second delay in chatting, though.
I’ll post instructions after every pick. It’ll be repetitive, but so be it.
I can’t tell you how relieved I was to see you in the live draft for the stats league. The thouhgt of trying to manage tomorrows draft without your tools and attention made me shudder.
omni - I would participate in a money league next year (at that scale). I second the idea of an auction league. It would be a nice change, and it seems somehow resonant to the spirit of a money league, n’est ce pas?
I haven’t done an auction league either, so I’d be up for it. Of course I said that same thing about that time I poured Tabasco on my penis, but that’s a whole another story.
I would love to have an auction draft some time. In fact, if there were some way to squeeze one in this year without using Yahoo (I’ve already got the maximum number of teams there, four), I would jump at the chance.
