We waged war against and bombed into submission a country that did not first attack us, on the basis of lies. Every night on the news they give the update on how many more boys will come home in a box, even though it was announced that we had won the war in May.
Personally, I have been looking for work since March and the outlook is not good.
These are not good for a president entering an election year. It wouldn’t suprise me if he staged a “terrorist” attack on some American target just to make himself look good.:wally
Hey if your looking for work why don’t you go help them “rebuild Iraq”? That way you could help THEM out, get a job and leave this country BEFORE the “attack” :dubious:
I don’t think unemployed hlanelee has enough money to be a friend of Bush and thus get work “rebuilding Iraq.” I like this new version of democracy there–chasing out the “critical” press…very GWB-ian.
If you believe this, you are completely out to lunch. Bush might start another fabricated war with (e.g.) Syria to boost his re-election chances, but there’s no way he’d ever stage an attack on Americans. He’s not a complete maniac…
::: standing waaaaaaaaaaaay over here to distance myself from the OP’s final comments.
yes, the economy is in bad shape, yes, the fabricated war is costing us way too much (in every type of way -although, yes it is indeed a good thing SH is out of power…obligatory mention to try and avoid the Bruti of the world’s inevitable comments), but no, I do not believe that Bush et al would commit treason in the manner speculated.
Just for the fun of it I made up a cheesy conspiracy theory in August 2001: We need to expand our sphere of influence in the Far East to protect our interests in Japan (threatened by N Korea) and Hong Kong (“owned” by China). Give me a break; I’m just making this up. So we need to neutralize those 2 threats. How? When we would face fuel supply issues in that part of the world? Well, China’s a good place, but probably not friendly. So the plan goes like this: 1) The US is victimized and “forced” into a war in the Mideast. 2) This event results in our occupation if Iraq. 3) China has a major disease outbreak killing off a major chunk of the population, US demonstrates a need for order & occupies China. 4) N. Korea & China are neutralized & the US owns VAST chunks of oil and, since we do not support Kyoto Protocol we really don’t give a rat about the greenhouse gasses from our developing oil economy.
Stupid, I know. And by now certain members of the SDMB are sending the feds after Matchka the genocidal maniac (which I’m not—quite the opposite, really).
But my asshole caved in when the towers & Pentagon were hit, and then we were at war, and then we are occupying Iraq. Then (thank GOD) the SARS thing failed to annihilate China and I started to squirm.
Do I think GWB ‘orchestrated’ the September 11 attacks? Of course not. But as a former member of the intelligence community I was surprised that such an attack was brought to fruition. My mind tells me, “Too many mistakes were made by too many people for us to have ALLOWED it to happen—you don’t want that many people in on a plot like that. But…too many mistakes were made!”
Don’t get me wrong: Osama & Saddam are complete bastards and needed to go even if it means we violate a few laws. But I have my doubts about what the REAL deal is.
I dunno if staging, allowing, failing to stop (even when trying) an attack would make him look good. It’d make him look like a jerk who spent too many homeland security dollars for projects abroad. It’d probably cost him the election–no matter who the WMD (White Male Democrat) was that he was running against. Now, I could see him publicizing our interception/deterrence of a massive attack staged or otherwise…
“Don’t worry, Pavlov, Uncle Joe wouldn’t starve the Ukranians to death…”
“Don’t worry, Anja. Our Fuhrer is only relocating the Jews. He’s not killing them…”
“Well, Fayruz, Saddam’s men will not come for us, it was the Faisals next door that they wished to speak with.”
“Polpot who?”
“Fidel who?”
“Mommy, can we visit Grandma in Guernica this summer?”
“He’s the President, the General, he’s King of the Sea! Idi Amin”
And who was the maniacalCaesar who killed all those peole…?
My point is, why should anyone believe that their country’s leadership would NOT do horrible things to them in order to stay in power? Perhaps the question should be “Why wouldn’t you believe that?”
Hey Matchka, how about because the US is just a teensy bit different than the USSR after WWII, Cambodia in the '70s, Germany before and during WWII, etc.?
You’re right. All those places were police states where the people had no rights to privacy; they were under economic stress and the people were uneasy about that; most of those were isolationist governments; and those governments lied to and misled the people who were distant from the events…nothing like the USA these days.
Don’t get me wrong, “I LOVE my country, it’s my Government that I fear.”
Not to detract from hlanelee and Matchka’s thinking outside the box, but…
My own personal Conspiracy Theory is that the US will “discover” Saddam at some point shortly before the election next year (either arresting him or killing him), in much the same way we happened to “discover” and blow up a terrorist cell in Yemen the morning of the 2002 elections. With the right timing Bush can ride the upsurge of public opinion to reelection and it’ll all be over before anyone has a chance to look too closely at it.
If I’m wrong, well, no harm no foul. If I’m right, though, somebody owes me a pint.
Shucks, Gyrate, I’ll buy you a pint just for picking up the Paranoid Gauntlet. Let’s not also forget that the elcetion itself pivoted on a state run by his brother!
Nay, this man and his crones have the stink of The Devil about them.
Good post, hlanelee, took balls. See maybe you should have just cut to the chase and titled it “He’ll do something evil again!”
As much as I suspect Jeb and the lovely Ms. Harris of shenanigans in the 2000 election, let’s not forget that Florida wouldn’t have been such a big deal had it not been for the rest of the country. If either Gore or Bush had picked up one or two of the other states Florida could have been a non-issue.
OK boys, who’s next on the hit list? We don’t like no stinking leaders that go around bullying their neighbors while forgetting the plight of their own people. Wait, that’s what I’m doing, hmm, we better word that a different way. - YellowCake GW.
