I dropped a bombshell on the poker group last night. When I posted last night we were litterally on the way out the door and I now have a few minutes to explain.
We got a call last night that my nephew Joey Morris is missing. He had gone last sunday afternoon to visit a friend nearby and seemingly never made it to his friends apartment. He was on foot as the apartment is nearby.
Joey is 23 years old and mentally challenged. A good size man at about six feet tall and about 225 pounds. He is very good natured and never met a stranger. Never into drugs or alcohol and the problems they present that I know of at all.
He just seems to have just disappeared. His friend he was going to visit says he never saw him on sunday and hasn’t seen him for a few days.
The police are involved but no headway has been made yet.
I don’t have many details as of now, but it is not at all like Joey to just wander off.
He lives in South Houston, a suburb of Houston and they have a small police force and I am not sure how much they can help. I don’t even know if they have a missing persons department.
Of course the whole family is absolutely frantic and worried.
I hope all this makes sense. We haven’t slept all night and have returned home as he has been here a lot and if he is in trouble he might make his way here. Though he has never come here alone.
That is all we have for now.
Sorry to have hit and run like I did but as I said we were literally going out the door as the chat invite arrived.
Dang CraneOP, So sorry to hear this.
I certainly hope for the best.
I’m very sorry to hear about this, Crane. This is my neck of the woods. Texas Equusearch has been used for missing person cases in the past; could they possibly help in your case? I’ve heard of them organizing volunteer drives to look for missing people.
I haven’t read anything in the local papers about this. Would the Houston Chronicle be interested in hearing about your missing nephew and hopefully get the word out to people to look for him? Their e-mail to send news is neighborhoods@chron.com, though just calling them up might be better?
I do see a blurb about Joey Morris being missing on digg, and lrcf.org, but perhaps KHOU, etc… might be interested in hearing about him?
I will be praying for you all and hoping for his safe return.
Sorry to hear that your nephew is missing CraneOp. Hope and pray that he’s found safe.
I came here as well to say my last 4 Thursday nights have been spent visiting my FIL who is suffering from quite a few medical issues that will eventually take his life away…Renal failure is the primary concern, but he his very happy to be at home instead of a senior residential facility (that we busted him out of since he was put there against his will by the 3 evil SILs), and is with a 1:1 hospice staff, 24-7. I’m getting home about an hour or two after the start time, but that doesn’t mean I’ve quit the Thursday Night Poker game…I’m just on hiatus.
Looks like Missy has a shot at taking me down though…Good Luck Missy!
I got an E-mail from another sister a few minutes ago. She was canvassing all the hospitals in the area. Pasadena bayshore said that he had been in their ER on wed 5-23. but had been discharged. When pressed for more details the lady at the desk said that she was mistaken and he was never there. My daughter went to the hospital and spoke with a security guard at the front desk there. He looked in the computer and indeedhe was there and “processed through” on that night. I don’t know what processed through means.
What we are hoping is that he was picked up by police and taken there to be checked out. Since he is mentally challenged. Maybe then adult protective services took him and are doing an ivestigation. We have called them and they won’t give any information. They won’t even say if they have him or not.
Both his parents are also mentally challenged as well so there is a chance that they feel he may be neglected or something. They have not contacted them that I know of so this is just speculation on our part.
If it was something more sinister, as in he was injured or something worse, wouldn’t they notify his parents? I don’t know.
Anyway that is where it is right now.
Well, I guess at least you know he made it to a hospital (if he did indeed need medical help). I’m wondering if privacy rules (HIPAA?) may be the reason no one is telling you anything. Perhaps they would be able to talk to a LEO from that small police department.
Great News!! Word has come that Joey is home. The only thing I know is that a blue van pulled into my sisters driveway and Joey got out. No more details are known right now but I supect that our suspicions were correct about APS. I really don’t care right now.! We are so relieved!
Thanks guys for all your suggestion and most of all just for caring!
Walley
Terrific! Thanks for the update. Hopefully it is all good news.
Pfew! Had me worried for a bit. Has anyone been appointed as his guardian? Surely they would have the right to medical info.
Glad to hear the good news, Crane.
Great news, Crane!
Glad to hear he came home, Crane!
I may be a few minutes late tonight - I have to pick TheKid up from work. Then, next Thursday is her graduation. I’m feeling pretty ancient. My baby shouldn’t be 18, she’s still 5 in my mind.
