Hello Faddah - MMP For Dad

TGI freakin’ F.

One of the cats tried to sneak out today… normally they’re scared witless of Big Bad Outside and run for cover when the door is opened, but this evening Ariel was halfway out the front door before I realised what she was trying to do. Gulp. My kittehs is not outdoor kittehs, dagnabbit… they’re s’posed to stay properly scared of Big Bad Outside so I don’t have to worry about them trying this kind of nonsense.

Also, I have aphids feasting upon the nasturtiums in my front planters. Bother. I’m debating introducing some ladybugs to deal with them (after which I’ll have to find a way to deal with the ladybugs), or just giving them a really hard spray with the hose. Any of the local green thumbs have any advice about what’s most effective?

Good luck with the Bar Mitzvah tomorrow, Soapy!

Nice hair, McUne. I likes! Mine is curly like yours, and I secretly wish it wasn’t. Girls with straight hair have no idea how lucky they are.

Spaz, a big yay on the eviction of the final mousey intruder. I am glad that it was still alive… the last couple of tresspassers of the rodent kind that Ariel found got a swift execution before being chewed on for a bit, and then left on my pillow as a token of her affection. EEWWWWW.

And, last but definitely never least, happy birthday Pie!!!

Good luck to Soapy’s son! I’m sure he’ll do very well!

Muppet, IANAGardener, but I’ve heard about soapy (NOS!) water working to get rid of aphids.

Boiled shrimp were the nom! I cooked the corn in the shrimp boil water - they were great, just barely spicy. Swampy, you are correct, there’s not really a recipe, I just had to use up leftover angel food cake. I could have used 2 cans of peaches, but it was yummy anyway.

We watched The Bucket List. Those guys (Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson) are such great actors. It was a very good movie.

Off to surf a bit. My pain meds ought to start kicking in soon. [TMI]I took some ex-lax, too. [/TMI]

Well, I got motivated enough to do all my laundry. Which has been done in less than half the time it used to take; I am, quite honestly, astonished at how fast the dryer gets things dry. How have they improved dryers to this point? The dryer and the washer both take the same amount of time, and the clothes don’t get overheated in the process! I am impressed. Seriously impressed.

So now I’m rewarding myself with a bowl of ice cream (Turkey Hill cookies & cream), and then fold the last load out of the dryer, and call it a day. Or night, as the case may be. Nighty-night, everyone!

Hey everbody’s–I’m tahred and fussy right now. I didn’t get enough sleep last night so my eyes felt like boiled onions this afternoon, it was muggy and not terribly pleasant out, my car is doing something weird and intermittently electrical that has my mechanic/partner scratching his head (also my four month old battery is leaking acid!) and I’m just out of sorts. I took a nap earlier, which helped a bit but I’m still fussy.

Himself has all of a sudden become quite conciliatory via text messages so I think he woke up and figured out he was very, VERY dumb. Too bad, numbskull, I TOLD you that already! I made it abundantly clear to him a looooong time ago (though he NEVER listens!) that if he pushes me to the point where I throw him out the bar gets raised enormously for him coming back. Before I’d even consider it, I expect him to be gainfully employed, I wanna see receipts for his anger management counselling and Og help him if he started smoking again. If all those gates are met I’ll consider dating him again.

Speaking of which, there’s a creepy stalker guy on OKCupid who keeps IMing me to see if I want to “cum over and hang out.” **shudder ** I really, really, REALLY hate that particular intentional misspelling under any circumstances, but in the context of someone I’ve never met and don’t find attractive using it in connection with a first meeting it pegs my grossout meter into the radioactive level. Thank goodness for all the lovely anonymous blocking/rejection buttons on the site, those guys definitely knew what they were doing!

Rigs, if you lived near me I’d invite you over for movies and chocolate and wine–you sound like you could use it as much as I could.

On a positive note, I ordered this nifty cooler for the house and it should be here in a few days–in case it ever gets hot again. Of course, since I spent money on it I’m guaranteeing the weather will be cold and sucky all summer long. For this I apologize in advance to the rest of the PNW!

I think I’m going to place a high priority on finding some fresh strawberries tomorrow. I am going to buy a whole bunch of them, and I am going to make myself a lovely batch of strawberry shortcake with fresh whipped cream. I don’t care if I have to drive to Hood River to get them, I WILL have my starburries! stamps feet

Damn, I am REALLY fussy! I think I need some sleep… g’night!

Gooooooooood morning, Mumpers! The human household is still asleep, 3/4th of the critters have been tended to, the dishwasher is washing dishes, and I’m caffeniating. We had rain again last night - wasn’t expecting it, but fortunately, I’d covered the lumber, so that’s good.

When the others finally rouse and dress, I’ll get the younger ones started wiring their apartment, then I’ll take Bernie and Taz to get shots and stuff. And maybe we can start hanging some drywall this afternoon. Maybe?? The kid has to leave by 7 tomorrow, but we do have her all day.

She was telling us she almost won the Ugliest Counselor contest. Each cabin chose one of their counselors to ugly up and compete against the others. My daughter was dressed in a wet suit with a cape, one striped toe sock with a flip-flop, a different colored striped softball sock with a sneaker, half a dozen different colored ponytails, and some rather strange makeup. They called her Olga, and she really got into character. She was tied throughout with another counselor: a tall, skinny black guy from South Africa. The tie-breaker was a dance-off, and apparently he was quite the dancer. But my kid said several kids came up th her after and said she should have won. She’s having a blast!

SIL was less than happy yesterday. He went back to follow up on a bunch of job applications he’d submitted, and apparently 4 of the 5 hiring managers were on vacation this week. The fifth was just gathering resumes for the file. So he came home in a crabby mood. **FCD ** was crabby because of his late meeting and his frustration with NASA in general, and I was lazy, so we had Bad Chinese for supper. SIL likes to use chopsticks, and we were “translating” the chopstick package. Like “Silly Americans, Mr. Wong used these to scratch his ass. Enjoy!” OK, so we’re easily amused.

We might enjoy cooler temps thru the weekend, but the heat is supposed to come back later in the week. So much for keeping the AC off. * <insert deep sad sigh here>*
Happy First Full Day of Summer!

Good morning!

Sorry you’re cranky, Smarty.

The ugliest counselor contest sounds like fun, FCM. Nice to be able to have a summer job that’s so much fun!

I woke up at 5:30 and haven’t been able to fall back asleep, so I’ve given up and will get up to do something productive before heading out for the garden tour.

Off I go…

GT

Mame is my favorite musical EVER!!! I wish someone around here would start a proper revival of it.

I also wish I could sing.

{{{rigs}}}

Good luck to Soapy’s son!

Not much else to report here. We went to Quaker Steak and Lube for dinner last night and used my Happy Birthday coupon. I had ribs and he had wings. It was pretty good.

My wrist is hurting again, so not too much typing again today.

Mornin’. Hate musicals. Lost pronouns.

Gotta go burn down a house. Later Mumpers!

{{{Rigs}}} and {{{Smarty}}}

**Taters **-- you’re feeling and looking better despite losing less weight now because you’re still burning fat, just at a slower rate, and building muscle (protein) at a rate that almost replaces the fat weight for weight.
But – protein is more compact than fat (that is, takes up less space per weight) and it tends to sit in places that make you look better, not worse
Don’t worry about it, you’re really doing fine!

**VBob **-- have a blast! Bring the house down

**Ivory *Be’hatzlaha!! (that’s “good luck”, in the same language the kid will be reading his aliyah in…)

Up and off to work. Thrak has learned the joy of knocking over picture frames.

Mazel Tov soapyson!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Not real motivated but up. We’re havin’ lunch with friends at the uber good Chinese place which I’m lookin’ forward to since we haven’t been there in a while. Right now tummy is rumbly. Maybe I’ll feed it some cereal. Of course tonight is the retirement reception for our Priest. :frowning: I’m usin’ sad smilie because even though I am happy for him and his wife I’m still sad to see him go. Like I told him, I’m happy for him and her but I don’t have to like it.

Ok, off to purty up and feed tummy.

Morning!

Breakfast is being cooked. Sausages and grits and scrambled aigs. Yum!

Later I shall go get a pedicure. My Dad went and got one last week for the first time ever, and he just about fell in love with the little Asian girl. She massaged his legs! He tipped her $10.

Laundry is in the washer. I am productive. Woo and hoo.

Morning, all. <yawn> I’ve been up and caffeinating for a while, but moving at a decidedly slow clip. The cat generously allowed me the front 1/3 of my pillow last night, so I also have a nice crick in my neck.

That contest sounds fun, FCM. I don’t suppose there’s any photographic evidence to embarrass your future grandchildren with?

I should probably continue caffeinating and get my behind back to work. While I did get that pile of laundry done last night, that didn’t get my transcript done, alas. At least this guy speaks in real English, not made-up words.

I’m still hongry! Come on lunchtime! The cereal didn’t help much.

That’s all I got right now.

Got up at 0600, read for a bit (very stupid murder mystery) then went back to sleep. Now feel like I’ve been drugged, but still feel better(?)

A friend came by yesterday and gave me a graduation present! Made my week, I tell you. I got me a $35 gift card to Borders. It will be spent today. I’m taking #2 son and getting him the next book in the Titan’s Curse series. Don’t remember the author’s name. That’s not the name of the trilogy, either. What a great librarian I am… not.

I plan on also getting Roger Ebert’s book: Your Movie Sucked. I like his writing and I’m in the mood for snark and scathing commentary. Then maybe I’ll make cookies.
Enjoy your Saturdays, all!

Arghhh… the going to bed thing did NOT work out, I stayed up MUCH too late, woke up at 0730 to a text message, need coffee, cat is eating my arm and the dog’s food, dog won’t finish food so I can go get coffee because the cat’s in it, I have 8 jillion things to do but all I wanna do is sleep and it’s ALL MY FAULT! WAAAAAAHHH!!!

I can haz time machine, plz? kthxbye!

mulch… must remember mulch…

Oh yeah, almost forgot… Remember that ring that I bought on Etsy? IT’S STILL NOT HERE. :frowning: (And it was being shipped from 1 hour South of where I live.) The woman that I bought it from is being real helpful, though. She said to let her know if it hasn’t showed up by Monday. I think if that happens, she’ll make a new one for me. She called the post office and they don’t consider the mail to be lost until 30 days have passed. Ok, but like I already said, we’re talking about an hours’ drive. I guess that’s what I get for buying birthday presents for myself.

Afternoon, mumpers! Today’s weather has been wet and cold, more like autumn than summer so perfect solstice conditions, right?

I’ve had a largely productive day so far. I was up far earlier than 'im indoors so I fed the Tails and spent the rest of the morning watching bad TV and munching grapes. Then we went out for lunch and did various errands - we have a charity baking thing at work this week and I needed to get some mincemeat for a cake but they didn’t have any in the supermarket last night so I had to go elsewhere for it today. I also had to pick up some photos that I took on a disposable camera - mum had already started the film while she was on holiday in Italy recently with a friend, and we finished it off a couple of weeks ago down in Kent when we visited my dad’s grave. The pics came out quite well and although I’d asked for them on CD (which I got), they also gave me a free set of prints.

My other important errand of the day was to go and have a professional bra fitting. Since I’ve been losing weight, I’ve noticed that one place I’ve lost it from is my back so things aren’t fitting as well as they used to. Now that I’ve been properly measured etc, I found out I was wearing completely the wrong size anyway! So now I have some fancy new lingerie and I’m feeling much more comfortable. And before you ask, Nooner, no there aren’t any photos!

Gooooood mooooorrrrrnnnning my Mumpers!

Up and caffienating, although I’m still a little tired. I couldn’t sleep anymore though because the neighbor’s dog is barking her fool head off at a squirrel.

Mr. Taters had a great time on his guys night out and then came home to me. He was in an um…appreciative…mood. It lasted a looong time which probably explains why I’m still tired.

I did the professional bra fitting once, BooFae. It didn’t work out for me. The girl insisted I was a size and cup size smaller. I said okay, let me try it on. So, I tried on the size she said I was. I popped right out of the bra. It’s not so much that weight loss makes me lose anything up top, but that the shape somehow changes. I’m still wearing the same bra size that I was wearing 37 pounds ago. I even tried on a smaller bra size the last time I went shopping a few weeks ago; nope, didn’t work.

I still have a Borders gift card that I need to take advantage of, rigs. Thanks for reminding me. That was nice of your friend to acknowledge your graduation that way. I love Borders.

Smartie, it sounds like you need a nap. Sometimes a nice mid-morning or early afternoon nap is just the thing to put you to rights. There’s just something almost sinful about it that makes such a nap so nice.

I need more coffee. Hopefully, I’ll be back later.

I know we joke around a lot about Chinese Fortune Cookie fortunes. However, once in a great while, one comes along that truly embodies the recipient of said fortune. Such is the fortune in my cookie today.
