Hello Faddah - MMP For Dad

Howdy! I’m off. I slept sorta in. I got up at 8, since Thrak was bouncing up and down on me.

I went and got deheathenated, and am now lunching and cleaning.

Yay Dotty!!

mousie, sounds like The Children of the Corn . Say hi to Malachi for me.

beebs, no, for much the same reason that the safety meeting and the Safety Dance are not the same thing.

Spaz, must be some living arrangement when you have to explain which one is “the little bastard on the couch.”

I was going to make a snarkily clever comment about who was really the Book Queen, but I’m too tired to be that clever. So I passed…

Fingers crossed for Dotty!!

**beebs ** - drugs are bad, m’kay??

We did a little work, but none of us felt like doing much. So SIL and I pulled some wire and I got power back to my washer. He ran a couple of wires for the bedroom light/fan. **FCD ** started working on the shower plumbing, but the instructions with the showerhead/tub faucet installation were strictly pictures - no written instructions, no parts list with nomenclature. I would have thought the pictorial directions would be very simplistic. yeah. right.

We did clean up and organize things. I’m thinking I may paint some of the wall panels prior to installation - if we have any white paint. I’ll go check in a little while.

I need lunch. Off to forage…

I look out my back window at that every single day.

Hi folks and thanks for all the good thoughts and congratulations.

I have a pretty wonderful kid and I have never been so proud of him in my life. He lead the service with such poise and confidence and for those of you who know what I’m talking about- he had the longest “haftarah” portion I have heard done at a Bar Mitzvah. Many came up to us shaking their head in amazement about how complex his portion was. And he did it so well.

He gave a speech exploring issues in his Torah portion, which dealt with a commandment to kill off a people. He basically said that in order to reject genocide in the modern world we must reject orders of genocide in biblical stories. I am very proud that he wrote a speech writing where he thought the orders from God were wrong and immoral and why. (Plus he is my little atheist so he also dealt with that, in a subtle way).

He was sweet and caring to our elderly relatives and those who traveled very far to see him and a gracious host to his friends that came out to our rocking party afterward.

We’ll have pictures in a few weeks, so if there is interest, you can see some of the fun we had!

Family is still in town and we’re bipping from one group to the next, so the relaxing will come tomorrow when everyone leaves and he just has thank yous to write! And I can chill out and surf the Dope!

We also confirmed once and for all that we gave birth to an extrovert-- after 8 hours of service and partying I wanted to crawl in a dark room while he never stopped talking, was a 1000 watts of energy and rearranged his room at 11 pm.

Skimmed… hitting the high notes:

Mazal Tov, **Ivory **and IvoryKid!!

**Rebo **-- glad you’re doing better.

**Dotty **-- good luck with the job hunt. on the accident! Glad you are OK!

**Spaz **-- we did this to one of our own pots, once. When daughter #1 was a toddler, we once put a pot on to sterilize her bottles and pacifiers.
And… you guessed it, went to sleep without turning it off… :smack:

Luckily, I almost always get up around 3-4 AM and take a hike to the kitchen for a drink… so the damage was limited to one burned pot, a few destroyed bottles and soot particles hanging around the kitchen for a few days.

Haze, I know what you mean about trying to catch up with two pages of posts…

I assume you went to shul on Saturday out of solidarity and listened to his portion… right?

Riiiight.

I had no doubt your son would do well. He sounds like a great kid, Soapy.

Our friend backed out on working out today, and hubby isn’t quite “feeling it”. I suppose I could put my workout gear on and at least go out for a run. At least I’d get some cardio in. I may just do that a little later.

I’ve managed to clean up and do a load of laundry. Unfortunately, I’ve got a laundry room FULL of laundry to do since daughter decided to muck out her room. Jeebus! I’ll be doing laundry for days and days and days!

The kids are gone for the rest of the week!

I can’t wait until I can get my own place where brats do not show up and ruin my relaxing weekends. If I ever needed confirmation that I neither like nor want chi’drens, this experience is hammering it home for me.

On another note, let’s explore how out of touch with reality Dear Abby is. I’m going to hit up Burger King before I go to work for the evening. Yep, tomorrow is definitely going to be Walk the Dog Day.

I’m trustinig MBG got his book.

Yay for soapyson!

Taters perhaps you should introduce daughter to the washin’ machine.

MOOOOOOM I said I wore a crown not a tiara. :stuck_out_tongue:

This mornin’ was both sad and happy at church. Fr. Jim gave a great sermon. He talked about his fifteen years at St. Patrick’s, how he always knew he would be a Priest and would always be a Priest, and closed with a traditional Irish blessing that had everybody in tears.

We had veggie lasagna for lunch that was teh yum! It’s also been rainin’ and thunderboomin’ all afternoon which has been wunnerful.

That’s the news from swampland.

Later Y’all!

Swampus–you got the wrong prize, seeing as how you should have been the Book Queen…

Ok, bad joke over.

Congrats on the bar mitzvah, Ivory–but truly, would you consider him a man today? :dubious:

I got my propane cylinder for my “weed wand” aka midget flame thrower. It works a treat and I only started one brush fire with it today! I think I’ll have to carry a watering can with me–it kills the weeds nicely, but tends to ignite the mulch.

I worked in the yard all day after running some errands. TH has gone to pick up the pizza for dindins. #2 son went to see Get Smart with TH and is now reading the 4th book in the Perseus series by Somebody Riordan. He is loving it. I’m loving that he is spending the afternoon reading. He rode his bike yesterday just for fun. I am almost cried. This is the kid who won’t try to skate (ice or roller), sled, skateboard, bike, swim–anything! He is quite risk averse… But he can ride his bike now–we’re going to go to the library tomorrow (again) I think.

Hope all are having a good weekend. It thundered here (in bright sunlight no less) but the storm blew over us. Believe it not, we need some rain about now.

I’m back after getting tremendously lost on the way to the Whiskeypalian church where my niece was acolyting. I got there about 1/2 hour late because whoever it is that provides data to Google Maps has sucky data for the northern suburbs of Cincinnati. But I got to see her do some of her acolyte duties and got to have brunch and then hang out with brother and kids for a while, so it all worked out.

Now I’m going out to the garden.

Back eventually.

Hugs…

GT

We had chicken-n-dumplins for supper, and it’ll go into the rotation, with a few modifications. The dumpling dough was way too soupy, so I’m cutting the liquid in half next time. Also, the recipe called for discarding the veggies that cook with the chicken. Um, I don’t think so. So I cooked chickie tits in broth with some seasonings, then took the chickie out and dropped dollops of dumplin dough into the boiling broth. As they cooked, I removed them to a plate till all were cooked. Then I dumped the chickie chunks and a bag of peas-n-carrots into the broth, topped the whole thing with the dumplins, covered it, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes or so. All in all, not bad.

**FCD ** is back in the basement messing with the shower plumbing. SIL is in his room - playing computer games, I think. We’re under a severe storm watch for 2 more hours.

Can’t believe the weekend is done. Oh well, excitement at work since I’ll be joining a new group. I get a passdown from the guy I’m replacing, and I’ll be meeting the new project leader. And somewhere along the line, I’ll be moving to another office. So it probably won’t be a boring week.

I think I need an ice cream infusion. Just because.

More thunder! I reckon we got a storm a-comin’!
I am enjoying Roger Ebert’s book: Your Movie Sucks, but I have to say there are a lot of bad movies out there I was never aware of. I count this as a good thing.

#2 son and TH both enjoyed* Get Smart*. I enjoyed peace and quiet in the home.

Chicken and dumplings sounds good–why would the recipe say to discard the veggies? That seems a bit… odd.

rigs, all I can guess is that whoever came up with the recipe wanted the flavors but not the nutrition. <shrug> Or when they said chicken and dumplings, they felt it went against truth in advertising to include anything else? Bizarro…

Howdy, all. Well, I’m currently using three computers simultaneously. Envy me. I’ve got my old one that I need to leave up till I get everything copied off it I need, my laptop that I’m playing a game on that takes several days so it’s easier to use that one than tie up my desktop, and the new desktop is set up behind me and is busily copying files over from my old computer. I think I’m just about done; I’m going to doublecheck that things actually work, and then <gulp> swap out the machines. Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Anyway, I should shut up since the current folder the new computer is working on is nearly done copying. Then it’s time to start tearing things apart again. Aren’t computers fun?

The “storm” is already over–it lasted about 4 minutes, tops. Whatever.

Off to watch bad TV.

watching Tigs with the puters is making my head spin…

BioTigs you are borderin’ on computer obsession there. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve done veggies in c&d before. Mostly celery and carrots. The idea is they are there for flavorin’ but I figure if they’re there eat 'em. Mostly I don’t use veggies in c&d though. When I do I put ‘em in when the chicken is about halfway through cookin’ then take 'em out and add ‘em back in to simmer a bit at the end. MOOOOOM the liquid is one of those things ya gotta play with. C&D is supposed to be thick. The good thing is you can start with most of the liquid and add a little more if’n ya think it needs it. Good stuff! I may have to make some this week cause now I’m wantin’ some.

rigs, FWIW, we got some nice wind, a few drops and nuttin’ else. The drops were enough to chase me inside from reading in the driveway.

Guess what’s on TV? Law and Order. Yeah, who woulda guessed, you know that show is, like NEVER on anywhere!!
Garbage cans are out, dinner dishes are put away, cats are fed, and the ball game is on TV in 45 minutes. Damn Sox.

::shakes fist menacingly at Wife and her stupid cubbies ::

New OP is up, but I’ll still answer this one here:

Not really – I’m just trying to make sure I’ve got everything on the new 'puter before I take down the old one because then Papa Tigs is gonna steal it to cannibalize it. But it is kinda fun to have three computers going simultaneously, if only for a little while.

is that a port-o-potty near the upper left?
actully my first thought was “where’s the baseball field?”
