Count Blucher–I’d whup that nun upside the head. What the heck is she doing? Is there no one else you can appeal/complain to? #1 son is packed. My baby gets on a jet plane tomorrow and head to LA, then off to Botany Bay. I am thrilled for him, as long as he doesn’t get killed. He’s a teenager with kinda longish hair, some friendship bracelets, and likes to dress kinda scruffy. I had him shave his “beard” off (he doesn’t get 5 o’clock shadow, but he does look unshaven) and bought him some shirts with collars. He is very polite and actually shy. I doubt he’ll “mix it up” with anyone; I’m just concerned that he is a young male, traveling alone–he’s sure to be searched for drugs. I am worried that he’ll be harassed by overzealous security people.
Ok, he’s 16 and I should get over myself. But still. A mother worries.
(oddly, I don’t worry about my daughter in this way. I worry she’ll be hit on by mashers aka creepy older men who want to cop a feel or worse).
Daughter and TH also leave tomorrow for Boston. It’ll be me and #2 son home alone. Except I’m working the 3 days they’ll be gone. Bah.
Nice to see a happy resolution to the scuba dilemma. You want we should whap Harold the scuba place doofus upside the head with the proverbial wet trout? Seems fitting, somehow.
And we’ll whap LiLi’s SIL, while we’re there. I can’t even believe she would say anything that rude in front of a little kid.
Yay for Del and Phyllis!!! Good to know there’s at least one happy thing happening today!!!
FCM, over in the “What foods do you make really well?” thread, Drain Bead linked to a recipe that she uses for chicken and dumplings. Sounds like more work than swampy’s, but also sounds very good.
I agree with rigs, Count Blucher. Can you talk to the principal of the school? Or is there someone in the diocesan offices who could intervene on your behalf?
I think it’s fascinating to read what everyone has to say about their fathers. Intersting to see the range of relationships that are out there.
Hmmm…they just had a story about Israel on the German news and I recognized Tel Aviv (“Israel’s most modern city”) before they said where they were talking about. It appears I’ve actually learned something here, SO.
Heh…and it was followed by a story about falconry in the United Arab Emirates. Who knew it was a popular sport?
Blergh. Made it through the day. Evil assistant is back tomorrow. DM will/will not/will rid me of this turbulent shrew. mmmm…beer.
puggy, my dizziness get worse when I sit down. Or stand up. or move my head. Or sometimes just comes about.
Haze, I guess I was right about your location.
beebs, come home!
Mama Tigs, XP can do migration. Vista can migrate from XP to Vista, but you have to buy a cable($27 on Amazon, plus software migration software from Microsoft.com). I gotta do that soon.
LiLi, I think we should all line up and take turns whapping SIL upside the head with a large, nasty, rotten old fish. And then push BIL to fight for sole custody. What a bitch!
And then we can use the fish on Harold at the scuba place! I’m glad you got it all worked out. I don’t want to get your phone bill, however.
It’s XP to XP, canineservant, and I think I can do it through the networking program Papa Tigs has running the home network since it offers the option to share folders. Of course, first I have to unpack the new 'puter and hook it up to the network. First, alas, I have to finish this international roundtable. To my sorrow, they worked their way back around to Nice Chinese Lady Who Tries Really Hard to Speak English but Can’t for Shit. They really should have hired translators for this roundtable! Oh well, another hour (or less) and I should have it done. Please Og!
gt, falconry is a popular sport here in the Gulf, but it’s expensive enough to be reserved for the wealthy, particularly seeing as how the falcons’ prey (some local breed of bustard) has been hunted virtually to extinction, so everyone has to travel to Pakistan or the Sudan to go hunting. Back in the day when I was a trolley dolly, we had quite a few falcons on board flights (hooded, of course). Messy little buggers! Nothing could top the baby gazelle we discovered in a canvas knapsack, though! The Qatari passengers had accidentally killed its mother while hunting in Sudan, so rather than killing the baby, they decided to take it home. It only woke up and made some noise (enough for us to realise) as we were coming in to land - its ears were hurting from the descent! Soooo tiny and soooo keeyoooot! I have no idea how they got the little blighter through Bahraini customs to get on their connecting flight to Qatar!
LiLi, this SiL is the same one giving her kid chewing gum, etc., right? Whap her one for me, wouldja?
(Everybody but Haze: “But it’s nighttime!” Haze: “but it’s afternoon!!”
It’s morning here. Deal.)
**Rigs **-- I really think you should refuse payment on that mask – they gave you a complete walkabout. I’d take it to BBB if they refuse to release you from contract!
Your kids will be OK. My daughter (15) has been away at school for almost a year now, and everything’s fine (granted, she gets home every week or two – but she’s learned to clean her room, and do laundry, and all that… how fast they grow! )
**Count **-- You really should speak to the principal and (politely and quietly!) kick some ass at that school.
Can you tell I don’t stand fools gladly?
**GT **-- just wondering, what landmark was it that made Tel-Aviv recognizable for you? Or did you mean that you realized that when they said “Israel’s most modern city” they meant T-A?)
**Haze **-- I love your new Location field, too.
Gotti, Swampy, **Donkey **(and anyone else I’m blanking on right now) – congratulations on another state going the right route and allowing SSM officially! 3 down, 47 to go!
Now if only we could get Israel to even offer any sort of Civil Marriage  (at least the state is forced to recognize any marriage legal in the jurisdiction where it was performed, which means that, e.g., these new California marriages should be recognized as valid here – I’m pretty sure there have been a few Same Sex couples who married in Canada and have already got their marriages legally registered here :))
It’s 4:30 in the morning and I’m already at work. Blech. Oh well, it’s a good thing even if my body disagrees. We’ve got breakfast for 100 people this morning and then N.O.L. for another 55, possibly 75. Ok, I’ve got to do some paperwork before my employee gets here at 5 and wonders why I’ve been screwing around for 1/2 hour.
Oh, and my other employee effectively resigned yesterday. She said that the work has basically become too physically demanding for her. Which, it has, she has very bad arthritis and two knees that need replaced. She said, however, that she would still do deliveries if I needed her to. And, of course, we’ll still be friends as we have been for about the last 14 years. So, it all worked out pretty well.
Bye!
:: pointedly not talking to beebs since he’s left us all hanging here whilst posting in other threads::
Oops, for got to say, FCM, I’ve got a totally yummy recipe for Chicken and Dumplings. I’ll try to find it later today.
Morning all, up and caffeinating here. One down, four to go.
Aww, love your location, Haze.
I’m not very caffeinated yet, apparently. Oh yeah, don’t forget to keep Rebo in your thoughts this morning, as she gets the laproscopic gallbladder operation. Hasn’t Beebs shown up in the MMP yet?! HUGS to all who need/want them.
Ugh. I made a strata with some leftover pretzel rolls, ham, and cheese. I ate waaaay too much. I actually had to come over to my desk to do some paperwork instead of more cooking because I feel ill. : pukey smiley:
