Hello Faddah - MMP For Dad

I am beyond pleased with California. Connecticut is making some good strides in the right direction.

This is such an important issue to me- that I find it overwhelming that these changes are actually happening!

Special1- you’re a funny boy, funny boy.

I see the headline- “lesbian couple together 55 years finally weds-- divorces 1 month later…”

Up caffeinated, off to work agin.

{{{{Rebo}}}}

Mornin

I too am very excited for Del and Phyllis.

Haze, the location fits–it’s good.

This makes me sick. I feel bad for the Officer having to make that call. Though it was totally and completely justified, IMHO.

Beebs! get your butt in here RIGHT NOW!!

This had me on the verge of tears - how can parents let their 18-month old kids just waste away and die, then leave them to rot for a week before anyone even does anything?

No, no, no people.

We can’t do this here- no more stories about children who die horrible fates at the hands of those who should love them.

I can’t do it.

Appendages crossed for rebo.

haze, love the location.

doggio, have you been tested for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo? I have it and the first time I had an outbreak, I was constantly dizzy and nauseous. There are exercises as well as physical therapy treatment.

dotty and mousie, sometimes I think humans are reverting to very savage animal behavior. IMO the ones who do this kind of stuff have no soul and should be put down.

Congrats to all the gay couples in California. I would love to see the rest of the country follow suit but I suppose that’s asking a lot of the Bible Belt. Funny, the research has already been done and statistically, gays and lesbians will divorce at the same rate as heteros. There’s a big surprise.

Tiki Bird actually nibbled a whole millet bud from my fingers this morning.

Tupug

Doggio–I say that or labrynthitis, but I didn’t read your post about your original symptoms etc. IANAD and all that, etc. Get thee to a doc, stat.

Rebo–good luck with your surgery and may nausea not plague you. Speedy recovery, please.

It’s not that I disagree with the cop shooting that man, but now we’ll never know if he was in full blown psychosis or what. Tox reports may show drugs (which I strongly suspect). That poor child. I couldn’t even open Dotty’s link. For all I complain about my kids, I cannot imagine hurting them in that sort of way–I can’t imagine hurting anyone that way. Kids are so helpless, so vulnerable and rage is so overpowering. As a parent, you must be careful. You must be always conscious of how much power you have over children–it’s scary as hell and very humbling. Or it should be…

#1 son is officially off. Hazel went to the hot and humid place (Seoul, folks–where’s your heads at?) and now it’s 66, cool, sunny and low humidity. Thanks, Haze for making that possible! :stuck_out_tongue:

I am waiting for the library to open, then I’m going to ride my bike to it to exchange my books. It’s all very exciting and I know you all are breathless with anticipation for my next installment: what books I got and the trip home. Stay tuned!

Well that was something new. Being woken up by two cats fighting - I’ve done that. Being woken up by a cat horking? Been there.

Being woken up by a cat horking, then the other cat chowing down on said hork, at the foot of the bed?

That’ll get you out of bed pretty quickly.

rebo - I got everything crossed!

Out of my (work) team of 5 people, 3 have birthdays this week. So I brought in this cake yesterday. It was goooood. Although the edges were a little dry unfortunately. But the flavor was great. Mmmm, chocolate and strawberries!

rebo, best wishes.

rigs, I see youngish lone guys with big backpacks going through customs without being stopped all the time. Maybe the customs guys in Ozland have a different opinion about what looks like a mule than the ones in Spain, of course, but I don’t think that “young guy looking at everything like a tourist” is particularly glaring. It’s more in the way people carry themselves, I think, than in the composition of the group.

I had a panic attack today at work :frowning: Third time I remember something like this in my life; time #1 I was trying to swim a whole pool-length underwater when a jokester dive-bombed on me (he’s still got the scars from my flailing); time #2 was my only serious attack of claustrophobia ever. I’d been feeling off all day, then got bad news about my billing from my agent (Sheboss keeps ok’ing things in person or even email to each of us, then going to the other one with whining complaints), then at the end of a meeting as I was typing in English while having to look at the projected image, Sheboss jumped in between the screen and me cracking some joke in Spanish and my brain just exploded. Shucks!

And of course since she’s the kind of person who doesn’t understand “don’t touch me!” I almost had to run out of the building to get her to Stop. Touching. Me! I know this ain’t proper an’ stuff, but sometimes this woman makes me come up with new gypsy curses, and in case anybody didn’t know, gypsies are the best people in the world where it comes to cursing someone (“may you sue someone and win” is a traditional favourite).

Hopefully this will be the low point of this project.

Still don’t have 'net at home. Lilbro is arriving on Saturday to spend a week, yay.
Nonie, one problem with schools owned by religious orders is that members of the order can’t be fired as such, just transferred around. Sounds like Sister Kinderpenguin is at the farthest corner the order could find, already. The Countlet’s Dad mentioned a “cart-circling principal”…

Morning, all. It’s a pretty day here, although a bit warmer than I’d hoped; at least it cooled way down last night. So we opened the bedroom windows and enjoyed the fresh air. I suspect we will be doing that for a couple more nights at least. And <knock wood> we may even be able to turn off the AC for a day or two. I hope so.

Good thoughts headed Rebo’s way! Papa Tigs and I were talking about gall bladder surgery the other day – my father had the oooold-fashioned kind, where they sliced you stem to stern and you were out of work for a couple months – and was telling me about a coworker who had it recently on an outpatient basis and was back to work in 3 days or so. They’re sure doing amazing things with surgery these days, so I know all will go well for you, Rebo!

Count Blucher, that’s ridiculous. I’d be talking to the principal/diocesan school superintendent so fast it would make their heads spin. And in case that nun thinks a September birthday is too late to move on to first grade? My birthday is in November, and I started first grade when I was still 5 and graduated high school 6th in my class! So phooey on that unqualified nun!

Your baby will be fine, Rigs. The pain you’re feeling is the apron strings stretching. He’ll probably charm his way through the airports, and will have a wonderful time Down Under, just you wait and see! I hope he took a camera so you can share a few pics with us when he gets back?

I am so happy for Del and Phyllis! Merrylande is also looking at taking steps in the general direction of gay marriage; this is a librul enough state that I have faith it will happen here eventually. Unfortunately, the way our government is structured, I doubt we’ll ever have the national Supreme Court overruling the individual states’ decisions; the Constitution is pretty clear on what powers the federal government does and doesn’t have. But I would sure be cheering them on if they did.

I’ve got another busy day lined up here – routine doctor’s appointment (get some scrips refilled), mountains of work that was practically late when I got it (M. at the office told me she was sending me something today that is due tomorrow, but said, “Don’t worry about it, we’re so far behind on everything, there’s not much we can do about it!”), and at some point I would love to have the time to get the new 'puter set up. That may not happen today, either, the way things are going. Oh well, the 'puter isn’t going anywhere. Oh, and I really need to do a bunch of laundry. I have such a thrilling life, don’t I?

So how many time zones do we have represented here in the MMP now, anyway? Let’s see, we’ve got five for our US Dopers (including kai), and four for Mumpers elsewhere around the world (BooFae, Nava, Special One, Dotty, and Haze). Am I forgetting anyone anywhere else?

And can I delay getting back to work any longer?

“It wouldn’t have hurt so much if she just had a girlfriend on the side, like everybody else does… these things happen. But she cheated on me with a man!! ”

Hi, Nava!!

You think Unionized teachers in public schools can be fired…? But if enough parents complain bitterly enough, sooner or later they’re put out to pasture where they truly have no power over the kids – or at least not over the really young and vulnerable ones.

Sorry for that panic attack… that sucks! :frowning: I hope you’re feeling a bit batter now.

ETA – Tigs, I think you have all of us Un-American furriners covered

Good luck, DoRe!

Count, that’s bullshit–start climbing up administrator ass until you get what’s right, 'cuz no way your kid should have to go another year with Sister Mary HellPenguin just because she says so.

Thanks there, MBG, now my tummy’s doing slow rolls and medium flips. Erk.

**Rigs, ** your baby’s gonna be fine and he’s going to come home so independent and grown up you’ll have to take a small sob break in the bathroom mourning your little boy. That’s okay, though, it’s normal. Oh, and don’t pay for the mask, that’s some big BS there.

**Nava, **my sympathies–I’ve had some panic attacks and they really suck ass. Here, virtual hugs don’t count towards anxiety: {{{Nava}}}

BEEBS IS A BIG OLD POOPYHEAD!!!

So, I created a profile on OkCupid just to cheer myself up by looking at all the other losers out there… Why is it that the ones who’re lining up to contact me are the ones I wouldn’t date on a bet? Five inches shorter than I am (I just can’t do it–call me shallow, but if I’m going to lean down for a kiss it’s gonna be a cute girl!) completely unable to spell or grasp grammar, twenty years older–it’s gonna be a long rest of my life, I’m telling ya. Here’s my profile if anyone wants to point/laugh/critique…

Taxi, I’n’a caek, ehn!! Looks so yummy…

I think Del and Phyllis are just the cutest couple I’ve seen in a long time and I’m so glad they finally got their chance. Let those righty assholes look them right in the face in November and tell them they don’t have a right to their marriage license, I dare 'em! I seldom speak well of my birth state, but good on ya, California! How anybody can still cling to their stupidy rationales to deny SSM has a cognitive lacuna of Marianas Trench proportions.

Haze, how long has it been since you’ve lived in Korea? Is it proving to be a culture shock or more of a “yeah, I remember this” kind of feeling?

Must…stop…goofing…off! Byee!

Does anyone here have/use Twitter? I just joined today…wondering if any mumpers use it!

So I got to see the new digs this morning. The cubbies are much much smaller, with shorter walls - I envision a battle of the iPods with the gal next to me (aka MyVeryOwnAnnoyingCowOrker[sup]TM[/sup])

There is a lot of walking - and the gym is way at the opposite end of the building. I will certainly be getting my exercise. The food court has a nice salad bar - maybe I’ll lose some weight…

I have left word all over Fathom for **beebs ** to get his fanny over here

Yeah, 'cuz if he doesn’t ve haff vays off mekink him zorry!

yeah, but he might be happy this way

I will not read the rest of that, Dotty. If I read the whole thing it’ll make me crazy.

Quiet day today, and I’m ignoring a lonely baby so I’d better run!

I am back from the bicycle adventure. I MADE #2 son come with me. #2 son, who hates to ride his bike, so therefore is not good at it, so never gets better at it due to lack of practice. It’s about 1 1/2 miles to the library. It took us 15 minutes to get 3 houses away from our own. But on the way back? He never stopped once (except for busy streets of course). We stopped at the video store and rented a DVD for him. I even offered to buy him a 7-11 Slurpee on the way home, but he politely declined.

I am so proud of him. I think he was pretty proud of himself, too. And next week, I’m going to MAKE him ride with me to a different library (he likes Garfield comics. I can’t stand Garfield, but if it gets him reading, so be it). This other library has a better selection of said books. Am I wily or what?

I didn’t realize the 18 month story was about twins. Can you imagine? And if they didn’t try to get out of the room etc (I haven’t read the story–I just can’t), then they must have been abused/neglected for quite some time–babies have to learn not to cry… bile rising over here. I pity the older child and hope s/he is removed from the house.
Daughter is packing for Beantown.

Smartie–I’m hetero and married, but I’d date you! You sound fun and involved with life. We can’t go to the movies–but we could see an Altman film together. Oh, and love the Power of Books thingy…
