Well, got my haircut, made a lasagne (my MIL is visiting and she mentioned that she hasn’t had it in a long time, that and pumpkin muffins, so I made those too).
Our dog and her dog were playing and her dog got his cornea scratched (he is a Bos Terrier and bug eyed). It’s not healing so now he’s in surgery
I feel really bad about her dog. My FIL died two years ago and that dog is everything to her.
Sigh.
But, she and I are going to a spa tomorrow, so that will help!
Only a few more days until the big event… normal life, where are you?!
Well, lots of things are good , I shouldn’t complain.
I’m sure the mom is mentally ill. For all I know the dad is too. Although, as I get older, I am less and less likely to lump sheer human cruelty into the mental illness camp. IOW, it doesn’t excuse her behavior. Those poor, poor mites.
Apparently there are more kids than just the 11 year old. How messed up are those kids? And how messed up would they be if this hadn’t happened or no one found out about it? Jesus.
It has not been a good week for children in the world. What the hell is wrong with people?
I’m off to try to forget about this, but I can’t because it’s in Australia and for once in my life I’m thinking about Australia. Argh.
Yeah- it’s not even about working up anger at the parents- 'cause you are absolutely right. I just can’t get the thought of those babies out of my head.
Howdy Y’all! I’m doin’ some stuff from da cave and really glad cause it was crazified at da awfice. This is fine since I had planned on workin’ from da cave tomorrow which is good cause tonight is spend the night night.
I’m doin’ an easy dindin. Chicken left from Sunday (I was given some chicken boobs and laigs to take home), field peas, rice and gravy and biscuits.
Naw, I believe it’s to go into party favors–bar mitzvah, right?
Can I get some M&M’s for that? I like the crunchy rice ones and the peanut butter ones.
Rigs, if/when you become single you can come visit and I’ll be your wingman, how’s that? We’ll cut a swath a mile wide in these wussy menfolk…
I’m trying to recruit someone to go see “The Fall” with me because it looks trippy and I’ve heard good things about it–it’s one of those movies that only shows in one artsy theater downtown and it can be a real pain what with parking and all. Maybe my daughter wants to catch it after work, she’s in downtown.
Y’know what? Excel makes me annoyed. That is all.
People who mistreat and abuse children make me wish for a hell to consign them to. This is one of the few downsides to atheism/agnosticism.
LiLi young lady, do not buy a cake from Costco tomorrow. Do you hear me? I mean it! Don’t give me that look! You want your face to freeze like that?*
I’m hongry! I got peas cookin’ and they smell sooooooo good. Ol’ y’all know who will be here shortly after five. I guess I need to go whomp up a mess o’ biscuits and make the rice and gravy.
*Show of hands everybody who thinks LiLi will buy the cake anyway.
The house of my dreams would be made of peanut butter M&Ms.
And here I am, awake at an ungodly hour yet again.

LiLi, the question is, why wouldn’t you buy a cake from Costco?
I was only in Chicago for about two years. The problem is that I’ve never liked it here (in Seoul) - eventually I got used to it, but I was never entirely comfortable. I lived here for 11 years before moving to Chicago, and it wasn’t all bad, but never once did I ever consider settling down here for good. This is the place my parents call home, not me.
That being said, it’s nice to be back for a bit - the thought that there is a clear end in sight helps a lot. Everything still feels a bit awkward but it’s more of a “oh, yeah, I remember” process than a “holy shit!” thing. The most difficult thing is stopping myself from saying things like excuse me and bless you. :smack:
Augh, I hate jet lag. HATE. I keep falling asleep early evenings and it messes everything up. I need to go out for a walk or do some yoga or SOMETHING to keep me awake during that time of the day.
My company worked out an agreement with a vendor that, if we do one extra step for them, we get a whole extra day to get them our files. So instead of the files being due on Tuesday at 9 a.m., they’re due Wednesday at 9. Which generally means we don’t have to stay until 8 or 9 on Monday night finishing up the files for Tuesday. So we’re really happy.
So at noon today I get a call from said vendor (The person I usually deal with at the vendor is out for 3 weeks so it was a substitute of some sort… yippee.) asking where the file is. It was due at 9 this morning.
Um… no, it wasn’t. It’s due at 9 tomorrow morning.
He insists that it was due this morning. So I say fine, I’ll get it over to you this afternoon (Fortunately, for once, we had it done early… usually it’s not done until the end of the day on Tuesday.) and I go on my merry way…
… until I get a call from one of my coworkers (She’s usually the contact for this vendor.) who had just talked to the same guy who told her that I said that I can’t have the file there until Thursday.
Please ignore the giant red spot on my forehead. It’s from banging my head on my desk repeatedly.
Don’t hurt yourself, taxi. Hurt the stupid people! It’s much more satisfying.
rosie, it’s because Koreans don’t use those phrases. Particularly not in English although we don’t even say them in Korean. Well, we do have a phrase for “excuse me,” but it’s not used that often. People just shove each other silently over here.
Two down, three to go, woo hoo! And I’m -not- clicking on those links, I’m not! I’ve already read about one, unfortunately.
I think LiLi is going to get the cake at Costco, and I say, “get the carrot cake!”
I made it to the very local farmer’s market today and got fresh yellow and zucchini squash, some red potatoes, and a small container of black raspberries. OMG, they are soooo good!! I also went into the spanish grocery store and got some plaintain chips. LOL Yikes, they are salty and taste so different to me, but in a good way, taste that is. The salt is definitely not good for me.
I know there was something else … gah, oh yes, blocked -again- at work! I don’t know why, but sometimes SDMB is not blocked; mostly it is blocked, unfortunately. If you see me posting during the day, during the week, that means it’s somehow become unblocked. Or I’m playing hooky.
Ahh, -now- I remember! Yes, congrats to the same sex couples in California, especially the ones who could finally marry after being together for 55 years! I honestly don’t know why some people just get so upset about gay marriage. IMHO, it’s wonderful that two people want to make a committment to each other. I just can’t imagine that it would be -anyone else’s- business. Hopefully, Maryland will be next to see the light.
