Help: Dress As A Vocabulary Word

The Girl has to dress as a (fourth grade) vocabulary word for school next week. She wants to do something fun and creative. I am, sadly, horribly uncreative when it comes to costume/dress up ideas.

So we need your suggestions.

Can it be any word, or do you have a list from which to choose?

Can you give us some examples of vocabulary words she’s thinking about?

This site gives a fairly comprehensive listing and includes words for many professions and family members (fireman and grandmother, for instance)
If it were me (and I was a weird child), I would have went with something like “advertisement” and dressed myself in a sandwichboard plastered with ads, or I would have made no effort at all to look like anything other than a 4th grade girl and pinned the 4th grade vocab word “typical” on my shirt.

It can be any age appropriate word. I’m not sure that it actually has to be a vocabulary word. She says it doesn’t really need to be. Blockhead was a fairly common theme, for example, and I’m 99.9% sure that blockhead was never a vocabulary word. She’d like something unique.

How did you know we were in Tampa?

Weird. I didn’t know. I just typed fourth grade vocabulary in on the Google site and the Tampa link was the second one.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to freak anyone out. I occasionally claim clairvoyance with my own children, but I wasn’t even trying that time.

You could do almost any word beginning with “IN” like this:

Decorate a cardboard box and write the rest of the word on the box. For instance, write “credible” on the box. Then cut off the top and bottom of the box, have your daughter step into the topless/bottomless box. Use duct tape to attach it to her shoulders. Then she is dressed as in “credible”. Obviously, you could do incongruous, incomplete, etc. I’m not sure what fourth grade words are.

You could dress her in this and call her Sweetness.

Oooh, lots of cool words on that site. There should be some interesting possibilities in emergency, panic, fatal, or dangerous – possibly combined with weapon, pollution, pesticides, or flames. Or she might stuff herself into a bag (preferably not plastic  ) and go as hidden, mystery, or secret. Or… hey, I’ve got it - the perfect word for a doper child! Make a T-shirt and a sign with anti-evolution slogans, and let her go as ignorance!

I don’t know how many school children in our area would “get” that one, Omni. But thanks for the suggestion.

Well, she can dress up as the letters A, B & C then she can be abecedarian.

And since she’s a young student, she’s representing both definitions. A double hit!

And how is that important to me?
