Help ID a song from the late 70s / early 80s

I was watching an old clip of a show called “Prisoner” it’s an Australian soap opera from 1980, well this part is anyway.

This song they are playing sounds so familiar but I can’t think of it. Perhaps I don’t know it

The link to the clip is

The song starts at 5:02 I thought I got the words and I copied them and tried to Google it but it came up with no lyrics

Can anyone help, again the song is in the background and starts at 5:02 on the video

thanks

Wow, this is a toughie.

The snatches of lyrics I could make out were “(I feel/fear?) there is no time”, “love is all I (another word???)”, and “take my breath away”. Normally, three bites of that length would be enough to nail a song on Google … but no luck.

Never heard it before. Sounds a bit like Maria Muldaur’s (“Midnight at the Oasis”) or Carole King’s (“It’s Too Late”) voice, but I can’t be sure.

Is this the series: Prisoner Cell Block H?

It sound like some obscure disco thing to me. I don’t recognize it though. I do agree with Elendil’s Heir, that is sounds like Maria Muldaur. Carole King, not so much. Or it could be Melanie.

Dunno … sounds like a high-pitched male voice to me.

Some of the lyrics are a match for a Starpoint song called “Till the End of Time” … but listening to a sample revealed that it’s not the song the OP is looking for.

Yeah it’s Prisoner or “Prisoner Cell Block H” for the British or American market. So it could very well be an Australian artist of the time. That episode was from 1980, so it should be someone from around that time.

Again it could be a local Australian artist

I had never heard this song before. I started to look because I consider myself to be a master at figuring songs out with limited information.

I can’t find it!!! I went through the Australian charts from 1979-1981…so, whatever this is–it didn’t hit #1 (in Australia, the UK, or US).

I tried googling snippets of lyrics to no avail. I think the hook was “love is all…love is all I have to give”. Other parts I got- “As long as you are here close to me”, “when you’re loving me, I feel so…” It’s definitely a woman…who I think sounds a bit like Sade (who didn’t have any hits this early…and it’s not really her style, is it?)

I really hope someone figures this out.

I don’t know the song, but I’m convinced that Daphne is lying through her teeth.

Do Australians not eat hot stuff? I thought they might, because of the Asian proximity. But at about 4:40 a woman says Tabasco is ‘real hot’. (And she thinks it’s Mexican.) Are spicy foods not commonly eaten there? What about Indian food? It just struck me as odd, since Tabasco isn’t all that hot.

This was thirty years ago. Back then, cuisine was somewhat limited compared to European and American countries.

It has much changed since then.

Aha. Forgot about the vintage. (But I’m a little doped up right now.)

Warning if you start watching this show you’ll get hooked on it…LOL

Lizzie is the con who’s talking to Margo who decides to put glass in Kay’s food next. Kay is in for being hooked on gambling and stealing company funds…LOL

It’s a great show, but the song does sound familiar to me. I thought maybe Carly Simon? The show was shot in Melbourne and this is 1980 but the show tends to be rather behind the times. For instance they later on have a prisoner dressed as Boy George but it’s almost a year too late. So the song could’ve been late 70s. They seem to have shot the show about six months behind or so.

The singer does sound like Sade, but I swear I’ve heard it, and if it was a local hit I wouldn’t have heard it in America. Though I for awhile in the early 80s Australian artists like Olivia Newton-John, Men At Work and Little River Band and the like were being pushed.

No idea but goddamn I hope someone knows becasue I’d love to have a copy- it sounds awesome. I’ve spent an hour plugging lyrics snippets into Google with no luck, and searched my UK chart books for that time frame- my guess is it had to have charted, but not a popular enough oldie to have someone post the lyrics anywhere. It reminds me of a bit of Cory Daye, but I’m stumped. Would it be listed in the credits of that episode?

bump

Surely someone knows this.

I attempted to bump this and the thread went nowhere.

Really. Weird.

So…bump

Hopefully somone in the a.m. who doesn’t post on the weekend will know, because I’ve spent far too long trying to figure it out today. If I knew for a fact it charted in the UK I’d try and eliminate every chart single from that time period, I’m guessing mid to late 70’s.

The credits would be at at episode135e, (the Video clip is episode 135d) I’m visiting a friend without highspeed so I can’t check YouTube now. I bet it’s an Australian artist. Anyone know of some Australian sites that might have a message board I can post too. It’d be more likely they’d know it there.

Nope. Not in the credits.

jesus h…

I’ve just posted this request on a couple of disco related boards- hopefully an answer is forthcoming. I just spent two hours playing youtube sound clips of every female disco artist I could come up with, and no luck yet.

Not found anything, I assume?

Well, I suppose this thread is going to die, but if anyone finds the answer and doesn’t want to revive this thread, PLEASE send me a message.

Because, yes, several days later, it is still bugging me.
