Courtesy of something I read today, I now have this song firmly lodged in my head. It starts out with a voice saying “Hello, Gorby, this is the White House.” It has samples, but I don’t recall any actual lyrics. I heard it in the late 80s, early 90s, but I have no idea what it’s called. I seem to remember a DJ mentioning the “CCCP” in conjuction with it, but a search on CDnow didn’t turn up a song or artist with that in the title.
The name of the group was CCCP. I know exactly the song you are thinking about. It’s got a bit in the middle where some newswoman is touting an upcoming chess game between (presumably) Ronald Reagan & Mikhail Gorbachev.
I cannot remember the title of the song, unfortunately, but it was a big enough club hit that someone here will recall the title. The title MIGHT also have been CCCP. I do remember the vaguely Phil-Oakey-ish singer plaintively asking in song: “Why did the Russians invade Afghanistan?”
For some reason, I don’t think CCCP evr put out an album. This song was probably only a 12" single release (or something).
