Help identify this song

My Googlle-Fu is weak! We heard this song a lot in France last month. It may be played in America also, I don’t normally listen to pop music here. It has a female singer and a catchy melody line. The verses have repetition of the final word of the line, in the style of Nelly Furtado’s Turn Off The Lights (“They say that girl you know she act too tough, tough, tough”). The only actual lyrics I can remember are from the break section, something like,

“You don’t know what love (really?) is, if you did you wouldn’t treat me like this.”

Alejandro by Lady Gaga is number 5 on a list of top 100 songs in France that I found, and it has some repetitive lyrics.

Just listened to it, that’s definitely not it (for which I am grateful). “My” song is not nearly as loud. It’s more melodic, less electo-drum rhythmic.

Can you hum a few bars?

I did in the OP - did it help?

Fight for this Love - Cheryl Cole?

Maybe a little too techno.

By the way, apparently the French really like songs with repetitive lyrics.

Dang - Nope to Cheryl Cole also. I appreciate the effort!

I heard this song at least 10 times in 10 days - is there a French version of Billboard?

Alouette, gentille Alouette
Alouette, je te plumerai
Je te plumerai la tête
(Je te plumerai la tête)
Et la tête
(Et la tête)
Alouette
(Alouette)

I see what you mean.

I moved this thread from General Questions to Cafe Society (where music discussions live). Hopefully, you’ll get more answers over here.

Merci

I can’t find a good cite, but Mel Brooks does a great bit (2000 yr old man?) in which he parodies Jacques Brel’s songs. Can’t do it justice but he certainly trades on the fact that they’re repetitive.

I was going off this chart when I was researching your question earlier today, but I didn’t find anything that fit your description. However, I may have overlooked a song.

edit: And here’s the current Top 100.

They’re repetitive. Very repetitive.

Found it!

It’s “She Said”, by a rapper named Plan B.

Still sounds like a girl to me!
