Help me figure out what font this is?

Can anyone tell me what font this is?

Or failing that, name a font that is at least fairly close? None of the fonts I have are very similar… they either have too much serif or none… this has sort of stubby, rounded serifs.

Thanks in advance!

Try WhatTheFont

WhatTheFont says Cheltenham Bold Condensed is the best match, although there are several differences (serifs not as rounded, “e” has a straight crossbar rather than curved, letters overall aren’t as curved).

I wasn’t happy with that answer, so I used identifont, which came up with what I think is the correct answer. I think your font is a horizontally-condensed version of ITC Souvenir.

Thank you Garfield! I think you are right (I’d already tried What the Font without success). I hadn’t heard of the identifont thing before. bookmarking

Souvenir bold condensed (or maybe Souvenir demi condensed), and that’s a great site for those of us who frequently have to do font-matching. I’ve bookmarked it too.

Yes. The Souvenir family was used to death during the '70s, not so much anymore.

I looked for it online and it was about $22 everywhere I looked. I couldn’t charge the client for it because this website was a silent auction item that I’d donated and so the cost would be out of pocket. Then I thought “hmmm… I have a few computers here, one of the might have it…” and it turns out that my rebuilt Dell (which had a bunch of software and stuff from the previous pre-rebuild owner still on it) had the font! WOOHOO! I mean hell I only need it to type three words.

This is one handy dandy service.
What will they think of next?

It is handy if/when it works. I’ve used it a handful of times in the past and I don’t think it’s ever correctly identified the font.
