I used to have a roll of thin double-faced tape, and I have not been able to find any more. Home Depot and Lowes have thick, foam backed tape, and carpet tape, but I want something as thin as possible.
What I need is not the thin, double-faced tape that comes in a desktop tape dispenser, but rather the type that comes on a regular cardboard roll and has a Kraft-paper backing - pull the tape and paper backing off the roll, rub it down onto the surface, and pull the paper backing off.
What am I looking for, and where can I find it please?
3M’s 465 adhesive transfer tape sounds like what you want. Acrylic base, sticks to just about anything, and acid-free.
Amazon sells it in one-off rolls in widths from 1/4" on up, but for larger quantities at better prices, look to Uline. On 3" cores, they call them “hand rolls” and it’s also available reverse-wound on 3/4" cores for use in dispenser guns. IMO, the guns aren’t worth the effort as they tend to get very sticky-fied and jam.
That looks like it! I mostly use this for complicated electronic disassembly - I’ll make drawings of where all the screws go, and stick them to the drawing with the double-face tape. Something like a cheap laptop will need 3 or for pages, while a camcorder may need ten.
