Help me get my buddy kille.. uh, noticed at Lambeau Field

So here’s the story. A buddy of mine that I work with was looking to put in for some leave so he could attend the Monday Night Football Vikings/Packers game at Lambeau Field later this month. He’s a huge Vikings fan and this will be his first ever trip to Green Bay for a football game. This may end up being his last trip anywhere, ever. He and his buddies will be dressed up head to toe as vikings. Big, giant, drunken vikings with the horns and the axes and whole bit in a sea of green and gold. Only problem is, he needs someone to stand by for his duties at work in his absence. Me, being the thoughtful, selfless and caring Chicago Bears fan that I am said, “Sure, I’ll stand by for you. On one condition: You gotta hold up a huge ‘Go Bears!’ sign.”

He reluctantly agreed.

It really was a joke, and I didn’t expect him to do it, but he’s not scared, and he’s gonna do it. But he said that I have to make the sign. I said, “Are you sure you want me, the Bears fan, your mortal foe in the Norris division of football make the Bears sign you’ll raise dressed as a Viking while in the temple of the 1-7 green Bay Packers?!? ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL?!?!?” Oooookey dokey!

So now the point of this post. What do you think will get this guy the best chance of getting a little ABC/ESPN airtime? I’m thinking that this 6’3", 230lbs Viking at Lambeau Field holding a Bears sign should catch the attention of the camera folks, so what should the sign say? I’m thinking something that uses ABC - that always seems to get on TV. Something like:

A Viking fan rooting for the
Bears because I’m
Crazy!

Or something like that. I’m not very creative. What do think?

That’s F’N hilarious. I say leave it just like you have it.

Course, I have a whacked sense of humor.

But I’ll be watching just for that. For sure.

No good ideas here, but make sure you let us know what you decide so we can watch for it.
I mean just in case there’s another 6’3" guy dressed as a Viking. Wouldn’t want to get them confused ya know.

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Aside from a few total dipsticks, you guys are the smartest, hippest people on the planet! I need some ideas here, people!

How about

Go Vikings!
Go Bears!

Anything
But
Cheesheads!

Hi Mom!

Brett Favre is a fudge Packer.

The Vikings can’t get the whole Raping and Piliging thing down, much less football.

The Lions are Pussy’s. (get it, lion, cat, pussy cat?)

Go Bears.

If you make him take this you better be willing to bail him out/identify his remains.

I would just do Go Bears! with no other explanation. Of course, it has to be glittery, huge, and orange/blue.

Or, GB is the same thing as Green Bay. Maybe you can tie that in some how.

Right now, I’m leaning towards this option. A “leave 'em guessing” angle.

I just want to maximize the TV time potential, and wonder if they’d show him with only “Go Bears!” on the sign.

Hmmmmm…

I may not watch much (ok, any) football, but I’d be willing to bet that a 6’3" guy dressed up as a Viking at the opposing team’s stadium is going to get on tv anyway, and the WTF factor of a completely random “Go Bears!” sign would just be the icing on the cake.

They tend to show people who are on the winning side, happy people. So if the Vikings are winning, they’ll show him. If not, they’ll show happy Packer fans. I’m guessing they’ll be showing Viking fans.

He won’t get killed, he may get some beer cups thrown at him though. Packers fans guard their beer closely, so they’ll drink it, then throw the empty cups at him. He’ll get more than his share of insults too, remember they have all day to tailgate–and they will even though it looks like winter is getting here. I don’t think a Bear sign makes it any easier for him to get on.

So, it’s Monday! Where do we stand with this? What should inquiring minds look for?

A 6’3" guy dressed as a Viking holding a Bears sign in the Linc? Now that would get TV coverage.

(The Vikings-Packers game is next week.)

I think you’re mean.

Now, granted, I don’t know either of you, and perhaps you’re always goofing on each other and this is no big deal. But you said this is his first time ever at Lambeau Field, and he appears to be really psyched about it. Why should he have to worry about getting his ass kicked, or even getting beer thrown on him? You’re going to ruin his chances to hobnob with other Vikings fans, which should be a big part of the experience. Instead, he’ll be dodging them. Not cool, in my book.

A lways
B ack the
C ubs!

whut?

Did I mention that he and his buddies will be dressed as Vikings? If that doesn’t get beer tossed his way…

FTR, he knows it was a joke, and is under no obligation to do it. We were joking about it this morning - he’s just nutty that way, and likes having fun wherever he goes. Besides, as we’re in the service, and he’s senior to me and a member of the command staff, I assure you that I am in no position whatsoever to make him do anything. My original “conditional” agreement to stand by for him was a joke as we were in a meeting when the question came up. Your point, however, is valid and appreciated. I’m still making him the sign.

The game is the 21st - and I’m think I’m just going with the plain “Go Bears!” in blue and orange. Best to leave 'em guessing, I say.

Duckster, Amen. Hope springs eternal.

All right; fair enough.

“i Want Brett Favre On My Yacht”

I suggest something a bit convoluted.

What about a sign that says, at the top Go Vikings!

Then underneath it, you’d cover the rest of it with cloth and two nails, so it’d hang tight and cover the rest of the sign. Then underneath the cloth, you’ve got written STRAIGHT TO HELL! and then, underneath – BEARS FOREVER!

So, in the end, the sign would look kind of like this:

|\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\|
|\\\**GO VIKINGS!**\\\\\|

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
///STRAIGHT TO HELL!///
///////////////////////
CHICAGO BEARS FOREVER!

(Where the part underneath would be covered with cloth until such time it was to be . . . unveiled. Drum slap

And the cloth would be taken off at just the right time . . .

OK! Tonight’s the night! If you’re watching Monday Night Football tonight, be on the lookout for a huge Viking with horns and golden braided locks holding up a blue and orange “Go Bears!” sign in Lambeau Field.

For those of us poor saps who will be working late tonight (well, every night but tonight in particular) is there any chance of getting some photos or summat?

BTW, this is a kickass idea. I hope your buddy has a great time.
