It was a show that revolved around a male main character trying to unravel a mystery about a town. I think it was on one of the networks for a season possibly two sometime between 2000-07 but might have been as far back as 1996.

I hope this is not one of those threads where everyone is naming obscure shows and at the end it will turn out that the OP was looking for “twin Peaks” all along…

Twin Peaks was my guess as well. Two seasons (plus a movie), aired in the early 90’s I believe. Star studded cast.
But I’m almost done rewatching it so it’s the first thing to come to mind for me.
It wasn’t Twin peaks or Jericho. I don’t think it was obscure, though. I remember a good bit of advertising for it.
American Gothic’s IMDB summary seems about right it that there was a guy, a love interest sort of looking after him and a sheriff protecting the ‘secret’ of the town. But, I recall it being set in a desert town. I’m looking through the videos on youtube anyway.
I’m wondering if it is Push, Nevada. It was an interactive show in that the audience could find clues and win money. It lasted about a season.
