Kilmouskey
He’s gorgeous!
In the Harry Potter mystical vein, how about “Patronus”? I could see having one that looked like him, if I were magical…Plus, he looks very dignified and serious.
And you could call him “Pat” for short.
I think you should go with a Doper name. Hal Briston seems the most appropriate to me, especially if the cat has displayed a fondness for a wool blanket…
well iffen you want to borrow my cat’s name you could do worse than Kiffer*. Works well for boys and girls
Or how about Muggle? Or Dog if you really want to mess with his head…
*as in A fer Apple, Bi fer Ball, Ki fer Cat, Di fer Dog, Eh fer Elephant…
He looks like a Cecil to me.
Name him Rhett, because he looks like he belongs with Scarlett
I think he looks like an Owen.
If you’re already calling him You-know-who, then how about calling him Schweppes? (Scroll to #64.) Fine looking feline, by the way.
Chairman Meow.
Seriously: best. cat name. ever.
If you want a Star Wars name, I’d go with Ben - he looks older and wiser. But I really like Patronus or Animagus.
Tarina (TAH-reena) it means legend in Finnish
Seance
Whisper
Kelowna (kell-OH-nah) a town in British Columbia
Saracen
Sussurus (look it up)
Xipi Totec (ZIP-py TOE-tek) a Meso-american god, I think, of partying and drinking too much
Nubira (Oooh! The 10th planet!)
or, if you have no romance in your soul…Smogbutt!
What a beauty!
My ex had a lovely grey cat like that. His name was Merlin and it was fitting.
Faux Paw
Mao Tse Tung
Ginsu
Ballofur
Velcro
Furris Mewler
Purry Mason
Bean Sidh
Tauntaun
Thus enabling you to say paraphrase or quote the movies whenever he’s stinky.
Or Quatropuss.
He’s adorable. I think he looks like a ‘Claxton’.
How about Thomas, Enigma, Cipher, Will-o-wisp, (Nickname Will?) or Zephyr. My impression of him is that he’s elusive, but a “fresh breeze” too. He’s very charming, and personable, but he can just fade away when he wants to, can’t he? Failing that, maybe** Fog**,***** Smoke, or Greymalkin/Grimalkin? He could also be a Percy.
*****Thinking of the Carl Sandburg poem “Fog” for that name.
We’ve got a little grump kitten we’re trying to name right now. He’s about 2 to 3 months old. He was given to a neighbor (the person asked that the neighbor take the cat to our family) by a young girl who said he “had a cold” and they couldn’t care for him. He was just skin and bones when we got him, he’s filling out now. (I saw a kitten on Animal Planet a day or two before he came to us, who was as thin as this guy, and that kitten died because it didn’t have the strength to get well.) He was sick, and weak for a couple of days, but the cold in his eye has mostly cleared up, though he’s still a bit congesty. (He’s not pukey, or runney in the litterbox, so I’m not too worried.)
We had to take him to eat and use the litterbox because he couldn’t get there on his own for the first few days. Now he goes to eat and drink on his own, though we have to “catch” him and encourage him to go to the litterbox still. Mostly we just kept him warm, and encouraged him to eat /drink small amounts frequently. I think his main problem was his previous owner had no clue on how to care for a sick kitten, and didn’t keep him warm or offer it food nearly as often as needed. I don’t think it was meanness, just ignorance and youth. They didn’t know that you had to be a “broken record” to get the kitty to eat or drink, and that you had to check on it every so often to get it to eat and drink in the night. Maybe there was a bigger pet there that ate the kitten’s food too, I don’t know.
We’re not sure of his name yet. He’s a grouch, but it might just be due to his health. When I first saw him I would have named him “Merl” or “Murray” because that’s what his meow was like, he’d grump while purring. (Mmmuuuhhhuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrlll, purrrrmmmuuuhhhrrrrrrerrrpurrrpurrr) Now he’s called “kitty” or “grump butt” affectionately. He’s on the verge of getting named Oscar (the grouch). He’s lovable, and cuddly, but a grump.
He’ll be our third (and final) cat. (The cat my husband had as a child is at his parent’s house, he’s inseperable from my in-law’s cat they are best friends. We’ve helped pay some vet bills for that cat in the past.) This guy is very laid back, and may be an ambassador between Rhiow and Hazel, who sometimes get along when Rhiow isn’t being anxious. Hazel gets along with Rhiow by staying away from her, but I think he wouldn’t mind feline company. When the kitten has put on some more weight we’re taking him in to get his immunizations and neutering. Today we deworm him, and bathe him.
I mention this because he looks similar to your cat, but he’s got more vanilla cream markings, he’s got thick cream “eyeliner” and darker grey tabby stripes with little “werewolf” ears and long, long legs. (He has BIG paws!) His eyes are copper/green. Yes, I do want to get pictures to post and am working on it.
his name is…
Abernathy
a dignified name…it just seems right.
Sorry about being away from the computer all day yesterday. Thanks everybody for your thoughtful contributions to the naming of You-know-who.
Although I was keen on Harry Potter references (Patronus—very cool) none really seemed to fit.
BTW…mr bus guy, Scarlett is gorgeous.
From this thread I liked Antillies (although I’m saving the name Wedge Antilles Polley* for my first born…) Greymalkin, Cecil and Gandalf. I brought these names to Mrs. Polley and she wasn’t keen on them. She seemed to be warming to Cecil, but it wound up reminding her of a cartoon sea monster, so that one got voted down too.
We sat down on Monday night and debated the pros & cons of various names while the Monday Night Football game was about to begin. During our discussion, we both said, practically at the same time, “Let’s call him Madden!” At this point, the kitty snuggled with Mrs. Polley and started to purr rather loudly. The moment & name had come. Even though there isn’t much to remind you of John Madden in this cat, the name did seem to fit.
Here’s a few more pics for those of you who like that sort of thing. Count me in on the next post your kitty thread. ;j

Taking a drink
Thanks again for everybody who jumped up to lend a hand and sorry I didn’t choose anything from this thread.
*Well, Wedge Antilles (Insert Andy’s real last name here) anyway.

You know, don’t you, that the real Madden quit drinking…
From his lying down pictures, I’d say that Madden wants a tummy rub. He looks very happy.
