Help Me Name My New Kitty

Well, she’s a most unusual kitty. She’s not happy with any of the names suggested so far (when I’ve tired them out on her, she’s either looked away, or glared at me with an “I don’t think so” expression on her face). She’s also totally uninterested in cat toys, catnip, and laser pointers. She has seperation anxiety issues (if I’m not where she expects me to be, she starts meowing for me), she spent a good portion of last night trying to curl up on the pillow next to my head (she’s kind of a longish haired cat, and sheds profusely, this is not conducive to my being able to breathe), and I’ve yet to see her drink anything. Nor has she used the litterbox (there’s no messes around the house that I’ve been able to find). She also didn’t mind when I put a cat collar and a flea collar on her.

Even more bizarre, is that I was planning on going to the shelter tomorrow and getting a cat, until she showed up.

Kitty pics will have to wait for a little while as I’ve had to temporarily uninstall the software for my camera.

Gee… with my cat’s eccentric habits, I could rename her Rugmuncher.

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter. It isn’t just one of your holiday games. You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter, when I tell you a cat must have three different names.

I had a grey tabby once named Biscuit. It really suited him. I now have a grey tabby (I’ve had her for 19 years!) named Phoebe. I love both of those names. I also like Leo.

Miao Shan (also spelled Miao-shan), the Chinese girl who later became Kuan Yin, the Compassionate One. It’s a lovely story. This is my favorite version, but there are others.

Heh. I’m actually trying to be sneaky here. If she responds to your meow, she might like a name that has the same sound. I’ve always like the sound of it myself.

Miao (or however you transliterate it) is the Chinese word for cat, BTW. She doesn’t seem to be too thrilled with that name, either. At present, she’s curled up asleep in my lap, with her head resting on my arm. (Good thing I can surf 1 handed.)

How about Sophie? Or Chester? (it can be a girls name too  )

When we adopted a stray kitten back in my childhood, my sisters couldn’t agree on a name for it at first so we were just calling him “The Cat”. He was TC for the next 13 years. When we adopted another stray a few years later, she became the “Little Cat” or LC. Hey, it worked for us.

Well, she’s decided to accept the name “Gabby” which I jokingly called her. As soon as I said it, she came running over to me and wanted to play. Obligatory cat pics here.

There’s always Cecil.

Cecile.

Who lives in the proximity of Clyde (orange), Fabian, Abby, Henry, Fred, Max, Squeaky, Bonnie, Clyde (stripey), and Mandy. And that’s just the cats.

Well, apparently, she knows how much Cecil dislikes cats, because when I said “Cecile” she gave me an “Eat shit and die” look.

If you hadn’t already picked Gabby, I was going to suggest you name her Sara.

Last name “Endippity.”

No good! Baaaaaaaaad memories of an ex with the first name of Sarah.

Amazing Grace, Grace for short…

“I once was lost, but now I’m found.”

What beautiful green eyes Gabby has!

You wouldn’t happen to be in west central Idaho, by any chance? I had a cat named C.A.T. when I was a kid, and had a friend with a D.O.G.

I was going to suggest Max.

That is cool. We have two long haired brothers who fought like mad as kittens and we called them Beowulf and Grendal.

Had a friend who called his cat Chairman Meow. well it is the first thing she said to you.
Just a point, are you sure noone is looking for this cat? Just read Margin’s posts and made me think…

Do we even know the cat’s gender yet?

It’s interesting how without further data nearly everyone seems to assume the cat is female, judging by most of the names suggested. It’s as if their all female, like cows or something.
