I didn’t sleep with Mel last night, but I took a shot of Amaretto before heading to bed, and it helped me zonk out. Roxy was particularly noisy around 2 of the AM, but apart from that, I got some decent sleep, so yay!
Not sure what was up this morning, but I passed 2 sheriff’s cars (2 different places) with cars pulled over, plus was passed by 2 ambulances (2 different places going in opposite directions.) Is something afoot in St. Mary’s county???
I thought this morning in addition to whatever I do to screw with Baby Engineer upon my departure, I think I’ll leave a small gift for him - for reals, not a joke. Not sure what it’ll be, but I hope I can figure something out soon.
Meanwhile, there’s crap on my desk that needs attention. Happy Wednesday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 36 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 64 and N.O.S. for the day. Today I shall take care of some [del]Church Janitor[/del] Junior Warden duties over to the church house and make a trip to the Pubic Sto’ to lay in provisions. Sup shall be my version of Philly cheesesteaks made from the leftover pepper steak from yestiddy. Have I mentioned that as of the end of next week there shall be two retirees in da cave? OYKW will be usin’ up leave time prior to his “official” retirement day of January 2nd. We shall officially be two grumpy old retired men!
Vow glad y’all made it safe and sound. I recommend you keep a strict schedule of spoilin’ the grand younguns rotten.
MetalMouse ain’t if fun to look at itty bitty strips of paint colors and tryin’ to decide what a whole wall of 'em will look like! I’ve mentioned before that I had da cave built and had to do that with paint and wallpaper. Also had to do fun things like decide on door knobs, hinges, light fixtures, drawer pulls, molding, bricks, windows, counter tops, and all sorts of fun other stuff. Never again. Glad I did it cause I wanted to build a house, but never again. Of course I did have some of the same kind of fun over the past year and a half with the remodel. I have sworn that everything will stay the way it is until I’m toted out of this place, either dead or to the home.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Le Sigh.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
ETA: First on Page three! NEENER! NEENER! Ruble and Spidey!
Got the brats off to daycare.
As soon as I made the turn that leads to the daycare, Echo started whining, and whined the whole way there. She luvs going to daycare.
It’s a cold 34 degrees outside, there was ice on the steps and frost on the windshield.
Today we have to finish my son’s scheduling, I have to pick a health care plan before the system picks one for me. It’s also pay the bills day, and finish off the leftovers/clean out the fridge day. Except for the ham. There is a lot of that still in the fridge.
swampy, Sherwin-Williams has a website that is supposed to let you see what the color looks like on your wall. (it’s here: Paint Colors by Family - Sherwin-Williams). Biggest problem is that there are so damn many of them to choose from.
Warmer today, 44F now going to the high 50’s if the weather people are right, still plenty of sun in the sky. Working the Sudoku’s now, will make myself presentable in a bit and do some Xmas shopping.
I’m glad all my xmas shopping is done, everything wrapped, and at the armpit.
I still need to buy for my son though, but there is nothing he wants. I’ll buy something edible for my mother later this month.
I really need to finish writing out the cards, and get them mailed.
That site does have way too many paint colors. I do need to paint around here. I kind of like Queen Anne’s Lilac. I figure if I narrow it down to historical colors that will make my life easier.
Doesn’t matter now anyway, nothing is going to happen until after the holidays, and probably not until spring.
I’m a bit bored waiting for irk to be over. I have things to do, but I know if I get up to do something the phone will ring.
It’s a rainy day here today. I’m mulling over whether I have enough gas in the car to get 'Beamer to school or if I have to get gas first. Decisions, decisions.
I received this today. Should I go ahead and quit my job?
Dearest Friend,
I am Barrister.Edwin Nicolas, from Lome-Togo West Africa states and have been a personal lawyer to a foreigner from abroad bearing same last names with you.But now he is late. I am contacting you in respect of his deposited fund of ($5.2Million US Dollars) which was deposited in a bank called (bceao bank) here in Togo West Africa before they met untimely death in October 6,2013 at Hawaii with his families during their long vacation visit over there.
The bceao bank where the fund is deposited issued me a notice right now to present or bring my late client next of kin to receive his deposited fund. This is why I contacted you so that we can both team up and transact it together because you are a foreigner and stand a better chance to claim the fund under my close supervision because you bear the same surname with this my late client in question.
Kindly let me know your intention to work out this deal together with me by sending me your full contact information here below directly to my private email address here(edwinnicolas2222@yahoo.com) so that i will give you more details on how we going to be successful in these deal. Send me
Your full names…
Your contact address …
Your Country…
Your phone …
Your Business …
Your Age …
Your private Email address…
Thanks
Capt Edwin Nicolas.
Note: that even if it is not your last name or related name, You can still claim the fund under my close directives or guidelines once you have the name in your names and i hope you understands this fact? even if it is your first name or middle, you can still get the fund once you are ready.
I didn’t know Barristers were also Captains! Do people still fall for these things?
Lunch break.
The panic to finish up things continues. But Josh pretty much reassigned all my stuff to Maria. His turn-around time is about to change drastically, as she spends much of her day on her phone… Not my problem.
Doug is on travel till after I’m gone, so I should escape the necessity of a going-away thing. Like I told Doug - if they just give me a card, that’ll work fine.
We all know how I feel about anything dealing with the Maryland government.
They were stupid enough to ask me to fill out a survey. I think they will not like my answers.
However, I was stupid. I was already enrolled in a new plan for 2020. At the time I went in there to change my income information, I got a message telling me to enroll in a new plan for 2020. Which I did, only to be told that I couldn’t enroll until after November 1. Unbeknownst to me, I was enrolled in that plan, even though I was told I couldn’t be. I should just have left well enough alone, but did I? No, I thought ‘let me go back in there and check out the plans in case I want to change to a different plan’. Now I am enrolled in TWO plans. WTF!!!
Their website sucks.
At one point I hit SUBMIT and nothing, just sits there, doing nothing. WHY? because I didn’t check a box that needed to be checked. Did it tell me why it was just sitting there? Did it tell me ‘hey stupid - you missed something’? Oh FUCK NO! It just sits there doing nothing. No hints, no clues, no messages, no nothing, it JUST SITS THERE!!!
So now I have a choice of going back through the Portal to Hell to unenroll myself from one of the plans… or I can call, probably sit on hold for an hour - or more - and then see what asshole who doesnt know jackshit I get on the phone this time.
Buttercup, YES! Do not miss this exciting opportunity! Make sure you send your bank account information, too! I shouldn’t jest like that. I know people who’ve been scammed, and it’s not a pleasant experience.
Shirrnee, I feel ya. I’m trying to decide whether I want to put another day into looking for a new Medicare Advantage insurance company. (Not 65 yet but got on due to disability.) My current plan is crap. Trying to find one that has my ophthalmologist and oncologist and please, dear God, a decent rheumatologist.
Where is beckdawrek today? She’s usually on here by now, and I see she hasn’t checked in on the Steak-Umms thread she started, either.
Fairychat, I had a call today where the client somehow managed to press Ctrl Alt right arrow, and turn his display sideways. Ctrl Alt Down arrow turns it upside down. I guess it depends upon how PC literate baby Engineer is.
My husband is very proud of me this holiday season: I actually thought of something I wanted for Christmas! A metal detector.
Last week, I was at the grocery store, and noticed, for the millionth time, the historical marker posted on the right of way. It’s on the known path of Sherman’s army’s March through Georgia. (Fun fact: when that army arrived in the middle of my town, a bystander was asked “Where is Statesborough?” In the middle of town. The courthouse - which doubled as a livery barn when court wasn’t in session - was burned. I assume that the horses had been hidden, or were taken by the invading army.)
Anyway, it occurred to me that my property is less than a mile from the known path of the army. And that the wooded part of my land isn’t suitable for agriculture. It’s second growth native trees and a little stream. Obviously, someone cut the original trees once, but the native pines back there are very old, for that type of tree. Hell, I have a persimmon tree that’s at least forty feet tall! (~13 meters, for the folks who use logical measurements.) So… Based on my observations, this would have been an attractive spot for a picnic lunch or overnight camping. (When we bought the land, we only cleared the front third, which had already been used for some domestic purpose in the fairly recent past. I insisted on keeping the back part as an ecosystem, because everything surrounding us is agricultural, residential, or planted pines.) And I always did want to be an archaeologist.
Maybe it’s a really dumb notion, but maybe not. Gives me a fun hobby for a while, anyway. When my in-laws ask for my Christmas list, I should probably ask for jungle boots and bug repellent for my trekking. Wish me luck!
The military has lawyers so sometimes lawyers are Captains; however, I’ve never known a barrister. I’ve known lawyers, & attorneys, & counselors, & esquires but never a barrister. Is that term ever used in this country?
I got one today from “Mia”. From the part of the first line I could see from the unopened email in my junk folder there was something about sex & what I think was supposed to be something like ‘I’m a few weeks older than eighteen’; however, what I saw was, “I’m a few weeks old”…
My first thought was Ewww. My second thought was that’s one smart baby, already typing away on a keyboard. Sorry, I deleted it rather than opening it to read the rest of sentence.
I’ve thought of buying one for my five acres in Central Arkansas, for similar reasons, although I don’t know of any Civil War events here other than the Battle of Little Rock. (We lost.)
Whenever I spread billions of Zimbabwe dollars around I always say “and you thought those e-mails were scams — shows you”.
Buy one. Even better-than-basic units are pretty cheap these days and it can be quite a bit of fun. Just the little odds and ends you can pick up around the house can be interesting. And there is always that odd chance you can help someone trace a waterline or something. A buddy checks the one local park after “concerts in the grass” and has done quite well.
PS – for the most part I will ask you to avoid known/preserved/discovered battlefields. Or if you do it, do it professionally mapping everything. Someone traced down an F&I site, detected the fuck out of it, and put together a display of everything they found. Mapped and in context it could have given us a TON of data about what turned out to be a fairly important battle. As it is its just so much corroded crap.
He’s very computer literate - then again he’s of a generation that had early and frequent exposure to computers and such. I snark about him, but he really is a good engineer and a nice kid, even if he’s not well-rounded.
Supper tonight will be ravioli because it’s easy and I don’t feel up to any fancy cooking. As soon as Daughter gets home, I’ll get things started.
Finally son heard back from Professor. The team has to write a group report and they are done. He only needs to get six points on the assignment to keep his A in the class. Then I got an email from the billing department, payment for his winter classes is due TODAY! and the advisor never called back. I don’t know if he should take these classes without talking to her first. There are some other classes he can take in the spring if she approves them, so he may not need to take any winter classes at all. We can’t use his grant to pay for the winter classes. However, I can fill out some forms for financial aid.
I ran one load of dishes through the washer earlier, then I cleaned out the fridge and have another load going now. There are still a few containers of left overs in there, they will be eaten tomorrow.
I put my new chairs where they belong. I like them, but I don’t like them there.
I think Arkansas was crawling with soldiers during the civil war. I know of a State Park battle gound near me. (Poison Springs) I ‘think’ is not allowed to metal detect there.
OTOH, My oldest brother found a cannon ball near the Ouachita River. He just kept it. His FIL was a gunsmith he advised him to have it ‘de-flowered’ by an expert. This guy told them it really was illegal to keep it. My brother doesn’t care. He shows it to everyone. I expect a call one day that the ATF has shown up and carted him off to the federal pen.
