Thanks, Tiburon! And keep us informed on your progress, unless it seems like work, in which case, don’t. My weekend will be spent painting miniatures, playing Mobile Forces and Syberia. And installing a ceiling fan in the living room.
It’s 8:30 in the morning on Saturday. I’ve been up about an hour and have been sipping coffee. Currently watching Recess, one of my favorite cartoons on television these days.
Here’s a recap on yesterday. After work, I picked up some Diet coke and Fresca. Already, things were looking good.
I came home and promptly kicked back, popping Amelie in. I was only so-so about it, but did like it. Then I played some Morrowind - holy crap, it’s a little tough. I may need to dedicate hours to this project. Then some dinner. I admit it - I didn’t eat pure junk. I cooked Korean food and man, was my tummy full. Topped it off with an ice cream sandwich. Then I read for a while…then I watched Tampopo. Oh my God, I can’t remember who recommended this to me but was it interesting! I giggled a bit - but could not figure out why they had the gangster dude in the movie. I didn’t get the connection other than it seemed like the director thought gangsters were cool and wanted a storyline in there where he could show some nudity.
Possible Spoiler: I couldn’t tell if I was completely grossed out or not with the whole passing the egg yolk back and forth between their mouths. Dude, what the hell happened to the woman? She broke the yolk in her mouth and then seemed to pass out. All I could keep thinking was “Wow…it’s true, what I read here about Japanese people being sorta wild/sick in movie sex scenes…” I mean, the guy trapped shrimp on her stomach and let them flop around, tickling her. There is just no way that crustaceans should be involved in anything sexual unless it’s cooked and being fed to another person.
I have to admit, I’m a complete WIMP at this. My apartment is completely clean so at times, I’ve felt like I had absolutely nothing to do. I realize that’s the point but I stood in the middle of my apartment and looked around, wondering what to tackle next.
Oh! But good news. I’ve discovered that when I sit at my window (second floor), I can watch the neighbor across the way pack up his U-Haul. Nothing helps me relax more than watching someone else do what I did last weekend. Makes me feel like I’m almost doing something.
How has the weekend gone then? I plan on having one of those weekends in two weeks time when I get in from offshore so I want to know how good it felt.
I’m gonna second lieu’s recommendation of John Carpenter’s The Thing. It’s as unromantic as a movie can be. Just 12 guys waiting for their turn to make crimson snow angels. I’d recommend action flicks if your into them. Vertical Limit, Con Air, The Rock, Cliffhanger… no plot to get in the way so no tax on the old noodle.
Ingredients:
1 Twinkie
1 cup plain flour
1/2 cup corn flour
A pinch of baking soda
Milk or beer
Oil for deep frying
Directions:
Chill the twinkie by keeping it in the fridge, but don’t freeze it.
Mix the flours and baking soda together.
Add milk (traditional) or beer (which gives a lighter result) until you get a batter with the consistency of thin cream.
Heat the oil until a small piece of bread will brown in a few seconds, but don’t allow to smoke.
Remove twinkie from freezer. Coat completely in batter. Carefully lower into hot oil and fry until golden brown. Web Site

Good God. Marine_One’s post gave me a heart attack. What’s funny is that I watched Slam Ball just yesterday. Heh.
Horseflesh, I’ll have to head back to the store and get some more movies - they sound fun and relaaaaxing.
ems - as for an update…
I didn’t do much of anything yesterday. I went out for a brief bit and went to a used book store where I brought in a bunch of paperbacks that I had. I picked up 3 more books there and then came home. I made a big lunch of chicken and green beans and mashed ginger-sweet potato. I read, I took a nap, I watched TV and then I chatted in the straightdope room and watched about 4 episodes of SouthPark with some other Dopers (online). I tried sleeping but couldn’t so I got online and chatted until about 3:30 a.m. I haven’t been up that long in ages!
I woke up at 7:30, ready to go. Showered and walked down the street to get the Sunday paper. I made cinnamon rolls and ate them, sipped coffee, read the paper. Then I tossed in a load of laundry (I kind of enjoy doing laundry) and read…and now it’s 11:15 and I’m already hungry. I’m making tomato soup and a grilled cheese. Yeah, that’s right, I’m wild. WILD, I tell you. I may go see a flick all by myself - sounds sort of relaxing.
