Help with a movie title

I don’t remember the name of this movie nor do I recall the names of anyone starring in the movie.
It takes place in a small town where people are disappearing. When they do disappear their skin becomes deflated in a grotesque fashion and are condensed into a bubble of light for storage. The plot had something to do with aliens wanting to take samples back to their homeworld but I’m guessing here but I knew aliens were involved. Of course at the end of the movie they are released, completely unaware that anything had happened in the intervening time.
This movie was played a lot on HBO on Saturdays back when I was a kid in the early eighties.
Does anyone know the name or what movie I’m talking about?

Sounds like “Lifeforce”???

“Strange Invaders”

Wow, you’re good! Ummmm, Raisin? May I “hijack” here for a moment?

Mjollner? You wouldn’t by any chance know the name of the newspaper columnist that can tell a person just about any movie from just a few lines of dialog, or a description of the plot, etc?

There is a movie that’s been bugging me for goin’ on 20 years now.

Or, perhaps someone out there will recognize this.

Okay it’s set as if it’s in the old west and is in black and white. I watched in in the early 80s, but it looked to be from the 50s (or it could have just been the director trying to be “dramatic”).

The idea was that there were a bunch of people on some sort of journey across the country, they’d stopped for the night, and the next morning one of their party was discovered stabbed to death.

That is, he’s found face down on a knife.

The movie then goes into a series of flashbacks, in sort of a “Sherlock Holmes” type “He did it because” showing different scenarios in which different people in the party might have killed this guy.

After we go through this series of “whodunit flashbacks” a spanish girl who had seen the whole thing (memory is a bit shaky here) but for some reason had been too afraid to come forward until the end, comes forward.

Apparently the guy got too drunk (or something, I can’t quite remember), but anyway, he trips over a root, and falls face down in such a way that he impales himself upon the knife (definite bullsh*t flag, I know), uttering his last words in a heavy hillbilly drawl, “ahhh, Triiiuuped” ( I tripped), and then “uh” he’s dead.

Okay, before you all start laughing and going “why were you watching this silly thing”?? you gotta remember, this was Anchorage, Alaska, just past the 70s, we didn’t have a whole lot of choices in TV channels back then.

This was on late night TV, and my sister and I watched it (a bit tipsy ourselves if memory serves) til about 2am on the late late show.

When it ended we just looked at each other and said, incredulously “Aaahhh Triiiiiuuuuped!!!???, what kind of ending is that”!!!???

Oh, I almost forgot, on late night TV, back in those days, in Anchorage? They almost never came on with the “station identification” or the “you are watching blah blah blah” as they do nowadays. And as we’d starting watching it after it’d been on for several minutes, we never saw the title!!

We tried looking in the Local TV guide (Alaska wasn’t on the regular “TV Guide” because of the time delay and all in those days), but it wasn’t listed. Apparently some last minute substitution for another show.

Anyway we’ve wondered for goin’ on 20 years now,LOL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nope. I would direct you to the IMDB messsage boards, where I took the liberty of posting your description.

The closest think that came up was the 1964 classic The Outrage with Paul Newman and William Shatner, a remake of Kurosawa’s Rashomon.
