On another message board that i hang out on (yes, i know, it’s heresy!) someone asked the following question and has met with little luck so far, so i thought i’d bring the problem to the culture-vultures here at SDMB:
If you feel like answering him/her directly, you can go here. Otherwise, just post the answer on this thread an i’ll give you credit when i post on the other board.
But this exchange does occur in the “Our Gang” short Helping Grandma.
Stymie does not exactly fit the bill as a “fat small-town sheriff,” although he was (shaven) bald for the role, and–despite having lived all his life in CA–did have something of a “southern” accent. And Wheezer was minding the store, so he hardly looked like a “dim-witted deputy.”
The premise: Stymie had been sent to the store to get some of “it.” He didn’t know what “it” was, but he’d recognize it if he tasted it.)
