(Old) Here It Is! The MMP

Went to the UPS Store to have them scan my letter of recommendation and save it to a thumb drive. They were closed. Mrs. L.A. texted me to buy some sourdough bread.

Went to the ‘dollar’ store for gallon-sized zip-top bags. No joy. They were pretty well cleaned out of bags.

Went to McFrugal’s next door. I don’t go there, because it’s creepy. Asked the little girl at the counter if they had zip-top bags. She had no clue as to what I was talking about.

Went to the supermarket to get tuna, and something for dinner. Steak looked intriguing, but we don’t prefer New York steak and we’re leery of supermarket steaks. I decided to thaw some tilapia and bake it with fresh rosemary and lemon. May as well get a can of corn and a can of green beans. I can get steaks at the corner market and offer a choice of beef or fish. No fresh rosemary at the supermarket, except for a box of ‘poultry blend’ for $9. Nope. I did find a seared tuna.avocado/cucumber ‘sushi box’ with seaweed salad. Got that. At the register, the lemon rang up as $1.49. I pushed the button for help. When someone finally came over, I told her the bin said they were 88¢. She said they’re 88¢ each when you buy six. Who the hell needs six lemons?

Drove back to the corner market and got a couple of rib-eyes. Came home, and The Wife asked, ‘Did you get sourdough?’ DOH! Back to the corner market to get a $6 loaf of Seattle sourdough.

Tried some of the seared tuna-an-avocado salad. It’s good. So is the seaweed salad.

Howdy again y’all! I am back with the all important trash report. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Also tomorrow night is steak night so steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. It’s cold and windy out. Thus I am glad to be inside and warm.

Now to see whatup on teh intartoobz.

I over-cooked the steaks, as I usually do when I try to broil them. They never get enough of the Malliard reaction. i.e., they’re not ‘charred’. And if I try to ‘char’ them, they’re like medium-well. Next time (if there is a next time before I uncover the barbie), I’ll cook them on the stovetop. FWIW, I use a cast-iron frying pan when I cook them indoors.

Mrs. L.A. said that her steak was tender, but didn’t have a lot of flavour. OTOH, she said it was better than the last filet mignon she had at our favourite steak house for her birthday dinner.

Back from the capital. Tired. Cold. Scared and sad.

At least the sun was out for most of the day.

Adorable!

Koritza and lager enjoy being in front of the radiant heater. Separately, always separately.

Another snowy day in philly. Not much laying on the ground. More a pretty snow.

lily were they are bonded pair when you got them?

Bears lost. I’m peeved.

Evening all. Was at the gym coaching and refereeing soccer from 2-7pm again, so fairly weary. Have over-consumed on the calories as I always do on Sundays, even with the workout of refereeing 4 indoor soccer games. It’s 27F outside and heading down to 21F and even if the house thermometer shows 68F inside, I still feel cold. Listening to the football game and going in and out of the office space to watch, it’s a wild one. (And it just ended, the Bears ran out of miracles).

Met the new next-door neighbors (well, they’ve been there for a number of months, but me playing hermit makes it hard to just run into them). They had two 6-week old puppies, look like a pittie/boxer mix but awfully cute and I got to hold them. To cold to talk much but they seem like nice folks.

And time for the week’s final scroll…

Taters, I get about 20 miles of riding in, but it’s all at the gym and doesn’t cover much scenery. Sympathize with butt sore saddle.

wet one, enjoy the new laptop.

FCM, I just realized I haven’t been to Cracker Barrel in a couple of years…may have to visit them just for the experience.

Well, better than A mellbimbóim örömükben szétrobbannak

FCM, enjoy the chillage.

lily, lovely picture.

flyboy, guess people making lemonade need that many lemons, but… And you had to spend some bread to get the bread, I see.

And after 9pm and I think that about does it for the week that was. Will join y’all tomorrow for the week that will be.

Yes. She wanted me to get the sourdough so that she wouldn’t be eating ‘my’ Sara Lee Delightful Multi-Grain, which is expensive. I just hope she eats her bread before it goes mouldy. (She bought herself some nice – maybe ‘artisan’ bread, and threw away about two thirds of it when it started turning green.)

flyboy, as someone who doesn’t eat a lot of bread and lives alone, my bread lives in the freezer until it’s ready to be grilled or toasted.

Kittens are busy kittening, lily. Cute!

I did a fair amount of backpacking around Asia when I was younger and there were a lot of times I had no idea what was going on.

When SenBoy and I went to Italy in 2024, I was surprised how much easier traveling has become with smartphones and Google Maps and translate, and the Internet, of course.

Did poke loin, baked N.O.T., and spinach with pepper and bacon for dinner. and a Wisconsin Old Fashioned. Funny, the orange I used tonight had a slight grapefruit flavor. Last week’s had a slight lemon flavor. Apparently the pollinating hives like to roam orchards.

@susan Awww.

The people in math problems.

I’ve got oddly ringing ears, which is better than the plugged up ears I had a few days ago.

{{{JtC}}} We love you and all you do.

Tomorrow shows a lot of meetings. Shit, I’d rather get things done.

It wasn’t that hard for us, as long as we knew where we were going. The Hungarian rail service has a very good website that sold us our tickets and also gave quite detailed journey information so I already had a list of stations. That allowed us to check off each one as we passed, and knew we were getting off at the right place. Some of them are very reminiscent of the deserted station in Dr Zhivago!

New MMP is here!

Nope. Topaz had a sister (black fur) in the cage with her, but already adopted. Shiso was a singleton stray who had a bad cold and had stopped eating. She was treated at the shelter and fostered for a couple of days by a volunteer. The day we adopted her was the first day she was available. They didn’t meet until we had them at home.
