Here It Is! The MMP

Nellie, it’s a lousy situation and I’m glad she has you.

I would like to get up but there’s a purring kitten draped across my throat. If I move her, there’s still the problem of the kitten draped across my ankle.

I got the first coat of paint applied and ended up with a headache. I’m suspecting it’s from the fumes. I plan to use a small fan to blow across my work for the next coat. Since then, it’s been lazy mode.

At first glance that was “perishing with the sourdough”…

A belated “Happy birthday, Boo!”

Never seen one of those, but back in the '60s-'70s when I was living in Illinois the city had small snowploughs for the sidewalks.

Presumably much easier than going to stores you’ll notice in the future.

I’m not Canadian, but 51 Ferrets is short-sleeves-snd-no-jacket weather for me.

Speaking of whom, she was last seen here on 12 Aug 2024. Anybody know what’s become of her?

38 Ferrets (one short of the expected high) and plenty of sun here. Highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s until it drops to 19F/-7C Thursday night after the 30% rain.

OK, I’m back and not quite as emotional. Let’s talk about you.

Are you making corn bread to go with it? I don’t make chili often because I don’t like beans, but I can’t seem to make it without also making cornbread.

That sounds great! Now if I only had a dog around here to try it out on.

That’s what I was wondering. I wish pets could talk.

sticky, that sounds kind of miserable. Do you drink tea? It sounds like something a nice cuppa could help. Hope you feel better!

Oh, that’s last Saturday’s weather.

Same. Do you have the same issue with really acidic stuff, like orange juice or coffee, or is it just spicy-hot stuff?

Oh, we’ve known for ages who’s boss.

It really does!

What? How did that happen? Clearly I missed something.

Isn’t that just like a tornado? Tear up houses, fences, and barns and just leave them lying around until March.

Brains can be so annoying. Yours sounds like it has a master plan.

Your kindness brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.

And I’m glad I have YOU as a friend. You’re so understanding. A big thank you to YOU and everyone who sent hugs. Right back atcha!

Why did I think you said, “I’ve been been a lazy noodle”?

I missed Boo’s special day? Damn. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOO!

Leave them out. Many people seem to consider it sacrilege to put beans in chili.

Evening all.

{{Nellie n daughter}}

Got back late this evening, my workmate I was plantsitting for was finally back, and I went to go drop her plants back at her house, but got chatting and didn’t get back until 9. This is what passes for a wild evening for me now. The rats were not impressed at dinner being so late.

It’s supposed to stay above freezing tonight, so a good day for transporting sensitive plants, so I’m glad that’s done. Irk continues irksome, though progress is being made for the most part.

Or tomatoes, for that matter. I say “do what makes you happy”.

I have so many words to say about that situation, but in the interest of not forcing our long suffering Mumper Mod to scold me, I will suppress most of them. Your ex-sil is a horrible person who will probably cheat on his new wife too. I hope your daughter will be able to find a good divorce lawyer to be sure that the assets are split fairly.

The vet missed a little bit of ovarian tissue during the first spay. They usually make a little incision, hook out the ovaries and snip them off, easy peasy surgery, but once in a while something gets missed. It happens, it is rare but it happens. (Ovarian Remanent Syndrome) She wouldn’t have been able to get pregnant, but she was going into heat and at risk of mammary cancers if she didn’t get re-spayed. Living with a cat in heat is an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone!

My favorite, green chili, has neither tomatoes or beans.

So, what is chili supposed to be? I don’t eat it, but when I’ve made it for my sweetie, every recipe calls for tomatoes, beans, green peppers and onions.

I feel like I’m getting sick - I’ve been cold all afternoon, even in jeans and a sweatshirt. I pulled out the heated throw we’d bought for MIL and that helped. And I just ate a bowl of chicken noodle soup. But I still feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. Ugh.

Tomorrow I’m supposed to watch the grands at their house. SIL has an appointment in DC for some kind of scan that can’t be done hereabouts. With luck, they’ll be home by 11. I’m going to have FCD drop me off there, then come pick me up. I don’t mind night driving in familiar areas, but not that late at night.

nellie - I forgot to weigh in, but I agree that your daughter need to get her a good divorce lawyer. What a scumbag her husband is!!

I’m sure there was more I wanted to comment on, but my brain is mush and I’m starting to get a chill again. Dammit. I foresee and early bedtime. possibly preceded by hot chocolate.

wah wah wah :sob:

Today’s the first day of the spring semester. Chaos abounds as students are added and dropped from my load, class schedules change, and system glitches cause everyone headaches. Updated my syllabuses that no one will read and been building my Canvas content, which is a lot of tedious bullshit I hate. Alas. I’d say it’s a living if I actually made any money.

The first double check of my wife’s heart stuff came in today. To recap: her stress-test-with-imaging came back with two possible issues that the cardiologist said the test wasn’t that good at evaluating. One of those was the '“ejection fraction” or how efficiently her left ventricle is working. They did an ultrasound on Friday which is a much better measure. Cardiologist called today: it’s fine. No pumping problems.

Next week is the cardiac cath to check the other concerning bit.

EXCELLENT!

Just got a text to remind me that someone is coming to get MIL’s Wedgwood china. I completely forgot about it, but I’m going to put the boxes on the porch so we don’t have to deal with Otis. So glad to be rid of it. There’s more stuff I’d like to go away, but FCD is clinging. He’s still having a tough time dealing with their deaths.

And no, he won’t go to counseling.

I kinda want pizza. No-one delivers to me here in the boonies, and I don’t really wanna go driving at night.

Howdy Y’all! I got my ‘scripts and made chili. Such an exhaustin’ day! Nappage and day drinkin’ revived me, however. The chili was good and will be even better tomorrow when we eat it again.

Nellie I hope your daughter takes him to the cleaners. I also hope she finds an even better job soon. I did indeed make cornbread. It’s a must with chili!

MOOOOOOM hope you’re not gettin’ sick. I had a bout with chills and ick a couple of weeks ago. I took a shot of generic Nyquil, went to bed early and snuggled down under the bedspread and a blanket. Felt fine the next day. I recommend this.

Pavo good news from the heart doc. May the good news continue to.

Nuts progress, even irksome progress, is always good.

Nettie may cat calmness prevail. I made a joke!

We finished one jigsaw puzzle about food & drink puns and got a start on another about pies. By the way, if you’re looking for a really hard one, look for The World of Sherlock Holmes. That’s the toughest one we’ve ever done.

I ordered 5 new shirts from landsend.com. Yeah, nonstop excitement around here!

It has its origins in stews made with chili peppers. Like vegetable soup, no two are alike.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s whatever you want it to be. But there is an element (Texans, for one) that insists that chili is just meat, peppers, onion, garlic and tomatoes (or tomato paste).

The green chili stew recipe I use does call for a can of diced tomatoes. I’m not sure it really adds much to the dish other than a splash of color,

Already Tuesday morning here. It’s -7°C here at the ski resort so not bad.

We got about 20 inches on powder at the ski resort Sunday night so my son and the sailing coach were really happy.

We are up to see if there is any left over powder from yesterday. It did snow a bit more.

Up from naptime, having an Old Fashioned and watching hockey. It’s cheeseburger and fries night.

That it has. She needs a good divorce lawyer.

Yay!

One slightly stoned kitten is home now, wobbling around the living room. The clinic staff say I was a bit off on her age, she’s about 8 months (I’d thought 5-ish). Oh well, no harm done and it’s been decades since I raised a kitten.

Turned out she was in heat, so has to stay in another couple of weeks until her hormones settle (I’d seen nothing that really looked like heat symptoms recently). At least she’s safe with her fixed roomie. Apparently, she was a little grumpy when waking up and hissed at clinic staff. They didn’t seem bothered. The tech who handed her back to us said her own cat had gotten bitey in similar circumstances, but Kasya didn’t.

She is not amused about wearing her recovery suit. Someone at the clinic claimed those can cause problems with healing, but I honestly don’t see how, and I dislike how the cone collar makes it harder for the wearer to eat.
