No! What he did is unprecedented on the Dope. The mods are probably putting their head together to make new rules as we speak just so they don’t have to deal with this bullshit in the future. The guy was hustling the dope for money.

Except you’re completely wrong. He didn’t explain the full circumstances until AFTER people started questioning him and AFTER several people ostensibly sent money to him. He certainly didn’t tell whichever mod that approved the request all of the details of his “plight”.

Seriously, though. I am not willing to give this guy a free pass just because the drama is growing weary. I’m weary of the drama, too, but I truly don’t think this is a situation where we need to forgive and forget. It’s too big a sin. The guy was trying to take money from those with who are prone to kindness. I’m not going to forget that easily.
So the second person to respond says basically, “I’m poor, but if I juggle things around maybe I can give you $10”. Knowing his actual situation, don’t you think the decent thing to say would be “Sounds like you need it more than me”? Instead his quick response is “Every little bit helps”. If you don’t understand why that would draw ire then you are kind of dumb.
Frankly, if this serves as a reminder to people that they need to use their heads a little before sending their money to random strangers on the internet, a few people losing $10 (and maybe even getting it back) sounds like a pretty good deal. Screw this “never again” stuff: he should do it every six months as a public service.
Fuck that. Think about what you are saying. You are proposing letting people get scammed just so they can be reminded not to get scammed. I think I see a fault in that.

I think all of you are being way to hard on Lute.
Now, I’m in an interesting position that possibly some of you would be able to help me out with. I am going on a road trip but both my primary and my secondary vehicle is an Escalade. Both suck gas like you wouldn’t believe.
If my brother had warned my about gas prices I probably would have traded one of these for something with better gas mileage, like an Excursion, but he didn’t.
So, if anyone wants to pitch in for gas money that would be great, I’m probably going to need enough to cover me for the road trip and the entire summer because I don’t see gas prices coming down any time soon.

If I read it correctly, his brother has been doing him a solid by keeping that ancient piece of shit furnace running much longer than it’s natural lifespan ought to allow, but because it finally broke for good, and because his brother was the last person to touch it, somehow his brother should be liable for some cost? NO FUCKING WAY. That is as shitty a thing to do as what he’s done here. I feel sorry for his brother, and if I were the brother, I’d cut and run. Unmitigated assholery there. Crazy or not.
